Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
How did you acquire Trea Turner and what season? It's a nice pick up.
Sent from my LGMP260 using Operation Sports mobile app
We sent:
Giancarlo Stanton
Didi
Ohtani (was on my team in 2017 as a rookie/International free agent signee but had two injury filled years for me)
Received
Bryce Harper
Trea Turner
It was a massive trade that sent shock waves around the league. I hated dealing Didi. I love that guy. But he was older and he had to be in the deal to make it fly.
Harper has been MVP like for me in year 3. He did miss the first 6 weeks of the season after going down with an injury in only his 2nd game as a Yankee. Trea has been a prototypical leadoff hitter for me.
The Nationals are also pleased with the deal. Didi has had a career power year and Stanton is also crushing it for them. Ohtani......still not fulfilling his potential as a pitcher.
I am having so much fun with this franchise. And we are getting close to the post season.
Our pitching staff is a big concern though heading into October. I have given up more dingers than any other team in baseball and we are simply not very strong with our stating pitching.
It will be a tough road in October.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 09-11-2019, 09:33 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

After we won the World Series in year two we went into the Winter Meetings and made a mega deal with the Nationals (who BTW finished with the best record in baseball in year 2 and are again in year 3) but got knocked out in the NLCS vs the Dodgers.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Man have I hit a major rough patch in my Phillies Franchise. I play every pitch of every game. I'm currently 16 games into June. I entered June with a record of 33-24. I have gone 6-10 so far in June and now stand at 39-34. My pitching has been an absolute trainwreck this month. It's been pretty mediocre all season so far but this month has been BRUTAL!
I ended up trading Jake Arrieta back to the Cubs for Cole Hamels. Bad contract swap and both weren't pitching well. Arrieta was worse. I've called up and demoted Jerad Eickhoff, Zach Eflin, Nick Pivetta, and Cole Irvin at different times trying to find some consistency but it hasn't been there in the rotation apart from Nola (who gave up 6 runs his last start). I'm calling Eflin back up for another start to take Irvin's place. I am strongly considering signing Dallas Keuchel for the rotation. I need help bad.
Overall, my pitching staff is 28th in MLB and dead last in the NL with an ERA of 4.81. We are dead last in hits allowed with 756. 5 worse than the Orioles. 28th in MLB and dead last in the NL with 345 earned runs allowed. We are also dead last in MLB with 117 home runs allowed and 29th in MLB and dead last in the NL with only 499 strikeouts.
It's amazing I was able to stay in first place in the NL East up until this last game against the Nationals where they took a 1 game lead in the division and knocked us down to second place. I have lost 4 in a row.
My bullpen has been ok for the most part except for my left-handed relief which has been a dumpster fire. I have used 5 different lefties so far this season. I actually acquired 2 via trade in Aaron Bummer from the White Sox and Tony Watson from the Giants. Both those teams are way out of contention already. I calculated my lefty relief stats for the season so far and it's not pretty.
60.2 IP
100 hits
53 earned runs
10 walks
43 strikeouts
23 home runs allowed
7.92 ERA
A 7.92 ERA just from the lefties. Along with Watson and Bummer who are with the big club, I have used Adam Morgan, Jose Alvarez, and Austin Davis who are all in Triple-A. Alvarez I demoted when Watson was acquired.
So far Bummer has pitched 3.2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 5 earned runs, 1 strikeout, and 3 home runs in 4 games.
Watson has pitched 0.2 innings and allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 strikeout, and 2 home runs in 2 games.
This needs to get better or I'll be fighting all season long.
My offense has been solid on the other hand though. 14th in MLB with a batting average of .262, 1st in MLB with 406 runs scored, 19th in MLB in hits with 650, 1st in MLB in doubles with 172, 3rd in MLB in triples with 19, tied for 1st in MLB with the Yankees in home runs with 108, tied for 10th in MLB in walks with 282, 6th in MLB in strikeouts with 539, 1st in MLB in slugging percentage at .477, and 8th in MLB in on-base percentage at .340.
A tale of two worlds it seems.

Somewhat, but only because I'm swing happy. If I could control myself I could get a lot more walks. I can clearly see that they want to walk me sometimes, and I know the pitch is going to be a ball as it comes in but what do I do... I swing anyway. It's a habit that's hard to break.
Edit: Also, it's almost impossible to check swing with certain guys and that doesn't help the situation.Last edited by Drty_Windshield; 09-13-2019, 12:03 AM.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Hey armor love the sliders. Trying out directional hitting for the first time. I have played two full seasons using zone hitting but have found it much more difficult on 19 then 18 for some reason. So i figured I’d give directional a shot. I am getting hits, XBH, and scored 5 runs the first game and am in the 15th inning of my second game right now and have scored 5 runs too (had to save and quit and get some sleep lol). So scoring and getting hits hasn’t been too much of a problem.
Big problem though: I have struck out 43 times in 24 innings of baseball so far. Basically I either get a hit or strikeout. Granted, I am playing with the Rangers who have a lot of guys who strike out a ton (Gallo, Odor, Mazara, etc) and played the Yankees who have strikeout pitchers, but 43 Ks in 24 innings is just insane.
I know the sample size is crazy small, but still seems a little off. I have drawn a few walks, get into a good amount of 3 ball counts, but whenever i get two strikes on me I go down by way of the K.
Anyone have any suggestions for how to fix? I’m on HOF. Really like how these sliders are playing, but would like the CPU to have to make some plays in the field.
Let me know! Thanks!

Bostonboy, it just takes practice. It's all about your timing and the players attributes.
Here is a link to the directional hitting guide. You can give it a glance over, scroll down until you see the picture that explains what the different analog stick angles do.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Unbelievable, I just lost a game on a cpu suicide squeeze! I'm not even mad because this game is so cool that this happened. A 4-4 tie in the 8th and Travis Jankowski executed a perfect bunt to score the go ahead run. I had no play. Wow this was exciting. I've never seen anything close to this in another sports video game.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Wow! I read the directional hitting guide, and first game with my new knowledge:
10 runs on 13 hits. Only 6 ks in 38 at bats.
About to go for a season opening 4 game sweep of the Yankees. Will report back.
Thank you so much Dirty Winshield! I can’t wait to keep playing with these sliders now!
