Wooooooow just got swept by the Dodgers in LA in one of the more frustrating series I've had...
Pitching got blown out in the first two games before the bullpen, and more so the defense, collapsed in the third game.
German and CC gave up 16 runs, 13 earned, in 6 and 2/3 combined in the first two games. Lost them 7-1 and 12-7. Game 3 was the real kicker though.
Up against Kershaw and his 2.52 ERA trying to avoid the sweep... we knock him out in the 5th with no outs and a 3-0 lead with a runner on. Giancarlo then homers off of Rich Hill to make it 5-0 and 4 ER for Kershaw in 4.0 IP.
Happ is cruising through 7... here's where you'll really want to start paying attention. I send him back out in the 8th with 81 pitches and a 5-0 lead. Strikes out the leadoff batter, but wait, dropped third strike and a bad throw to first by Sanchez. Next batter, Seager, hits a 1-2 slider out to right to make it 5-2 and end Happ's night on a frustrating note. Ottavino comes in, gives up a double and a walk, but the next batter hits a ground ball to Voit, who tries to turn a double play but throws it wide left (inning error count 2) and we get no outs on the play. Now bases loaded I bring in Kahnle (still 0 outs). He walks the first batter. 5-3. Then an easy ground ball to Urshela at third who makes a horrific throw home (error count 3), run scores, no outs on that play. Still 0 outs, a sac fly ties the game. Finally... we get a double play on what? our 3rd attempt of the inning? 5-5 game and LA would walk off in the bottom 10th on another sac fly.
Toughest loss in a while as far as I remember. Unbelievable.
Still 88-44 on the season and in first by a mile but already thinking ahead to WS matchup with LA. Went into this series with identical records, so they are up 3 full games on us for home field advantage in a potential WS matchup. I hope it happens... need that revenge for this series.
