Slider Testing Update
So we have played our first month in our Yankees Year 4. For those that have followed the streams we have had a great first month with a hot start, then a plunge, then a sweep on the road in Toronto (after dropping 6 of 9 on a big homestead) to again come back home and lose to the upstart first place Pirates.
The variety has been incredible. The highs, the lows, the great pitching in the fist 10 games to the absolute horror show it had become on the home stand vs the Reds, Indians and Tigers. Then we go on the road clinging to a 1 game lead over the Red Sox and 1.5 game lead on the Jays.....we get our number 3 4 and 5 starters and they all pitch great to help lead the Yankees to a critical 3 game road sweep.
This is what the game is all about. The drama of the twists and turns of a 162 game season.
With all that being said I am still evaluating a few things.
CPU pitching and Human Pitching - HOF is tough. Let’s not beat around the bush. Classic pitching on HOF is hard. If you miss spots you will be punished. My pitching staff has been taken deep almost more than any other in the league. That is after 1 month. That is also on me to a high degree. I had been challenging hitters probably a little more than I should. And they have made me pay. On the other side of the coin the CPU pitchers have been punished by my bats. But I have a stud filled lineup. We are supposed to crush the ball. Flip that over to the Marlins Franchise I also have been playing and it is a complete 180. My hitting is brutal. I mean to produce runs with that team.....it is futile exercise. So my conclusion right now on Human and CPU pitching is.....I want another month between the Yankees and Marlins franchises to evaluate it before I would even consider making a consistency change to 6 for both the CPU/HUM.
Hit Variety - It has been nothing short of magnificent. Hitting on HOF.....again it is not easy. Pitchers are smarter. Bottom line is the can nibble far better, mix their pitches better and will exploit you if you are chasing or struggling with certain pitches. At the same time I am in year 4 in my Yankees franchise.....that is a universe that has evolved now from MLBTS 17 to now 20. In my fictional Twins and fresh Marlins franchise hitting has been far different than my Yankees franchise. And by me playing 3 different franchises.....I am getting a great sample canvas. It allows me to be very objective to where I think it is at and if any changes need to be made. I want one more month to consider a move down for solid hits to 4 for both the CPU and Human.
My sliders sets of the past typically have had solid hits down at 4 (and 3 for the CPU last year) but this year......hitting is different. And in a very positive way. The new perfect perfect system has felt amazing. I do not want to disrupt it at this point because again....speaking personally I am getting a ton of hit variety. Liners, gap shots, down the line into the corners, duck farts, choppers, bloopers, bleeders, rising line drives. It has been amazing. On the HR front, majestic bombs, line shots, moon shots, wall scrapers, upper deckers.....the full monty.
Everyones experience is going to be different. Why? Skill level first and foremost. But then you have...what team you play with primarily, NL or AL, what division, what pitchers you use and see the most etc etc etc etc.
I am also going to say this. If you are going to be OCD about stats.....you will never fully enjoy this game. Ever. Sorry but at the end of the day it is a video game and while I love stats as much as the next baseball junkie, I will not let it dictate my experience, my franchise nor my universe and how it unfolds. This is a RPG. A sports RPG. Embrace how your universe unfolds. Do not let legacy issues deter you. Legacy issues are you most likely will lead the league in hitting into double plays or be near the top of that. You will most likely lead the league in least amount of walks issued or be near the top of that. This has been the last 15 years.....and 2020 is no different. Just let it go.
I have really taken a restrained approach this cycle with slider changes....the most restraint I have ever had. Hell JoshC has made more changes than me at this point......and he never makes changes!!! (LOL we were laughing about this the other day on a stream).
But he plays on All-Star......I don’t. Totally different world on All-Star. I can easily see why those changes have been made. All-Star plus is what he is aiming for IMO. That is what I aimed for on 15 and 16. Before 15 and 16 I was a hybrid player with veteran hitting and all star pitching! So my skill in this game has evolved all the way to HOF (and I am staying here the 50 year old’s eyes are handling all I can here).
I am simply feeling HOF, if you keep playing and playing and playing, you are going to see the variety, the drama, the roller coaster of a long competitive season. Battling through slumps both hitting and pitching and enjoying the runs of success as well.
So one more month everyone. One more month of games between Yankees Year 4, Fictional Twins Year 1 and Marlins Year 1, will give me all the sample size I need to make any needed.....or unneeded changes to finalize the set.
On another note......I have also been playing some classic baseball with 1990, 1987 and 1961 and our classic HOF set is working like a dream. It is uploaded in the Vault for those that use classic rosters a lot like yours truly.
Stay safe and keep playing The Show!!!
In my last 10 I havent had more than 5 hits in a game. My pitching on the other hand has been great pretty much all season and have kept me from being 0-10 in my last 10. I rank 3rd in Era and opposite of you Armor I'm in 8th in the Hr against category.
I really need to take a day off and not play the show but the combination of nothing on tv and this game being so damn great I cant. But it would help me get out this slump. I hope. Lol.
I will say this I usually make every change Armor makes but after 56 games I feel like this game is perfect and i dont need to change a thing. Other than my losing streak. Lol
I just love the ups and downs of this game. At first it was bombs away and now I cant barley get a hit. I couldn't steal a base the first month of the season and now I'm 10 for my last 12 attempts. I wasnt making errors to start and now I want to punch Dansby Swanson in the face if he makes one more error. And the rest of my team I can't field for **** anymore.

After a month of games, these are the only stats that are concerning me. Should I just ride it out or look at potential slider adjustments?

Also, I don't remember who said this but somebody wanted to see user strikeout numbers after 20-30 games because they were at the bottom of the league in their franchise and wanted to see others. Here's mine, middle of the pack after a month.

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
Things have turned dramatically for me. I am 2-5 over my last 7 and I can't get anyone out. I'm giving up an insane amount of hits. The past six games I've given up 15, 12, 13, 10, 8 and 13 hits. My bats have gone cold as well and I'm just unable to put across many runs, seems like I'm playing from behind from the first or second inning every game.
I hear you dude. I have a franchise with the Yanks that plays great. Pitching , fielding and hitting all feels great and organic and I am performing well but I have another franchise with the pirates and it’s ugly. My team ERA is over 8.00 and it’s just brutal to play. I’m sticking with it but it is hard to play. I’m hoping for a turn around soon other wise it’s going to be a long year. I am currently 2-11 and your cubs just annihilated me in a four game series

Wow 93 Hr in one month. You're way better than me. Lol. I'm 2nd in the league with 105 through 55 games. Are you playing with the exact sliders on the OP

The only changes I made were to pitch speed. I play on 9/8 as opposed to Armor's 7/6.Last edited by steelersd26; 04-13-2020, 03:15 PM.MLB: New York Yankees

Because I have a stacked lineup in my year 4 chise....but I am not blowing away the field in offense like you are.
Turn human timing and solid hits to 4
Turn CPU pitch consistency to 6
10/9 fastball/offspeed
Let me know what happens. Because you are really good....forget that it is the Yankees...that is simply a monster month. MONSTER.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
This might not be exactly how it works, but this is how I look at it.
The rating is the "target value", the various sliders, gameplay engine, franchise factors (like streaks, confidence, fatigue) and so on help to dictate the range from that target value. So, just because a guy pitches is a 67, doesn't mean he performs like one all the time. It is also subject to how well you know him and his stuff (and how well you manage his arm velocity via the button press mechanic).
So yes, a 67 will out-perform and under-perform his rating. A LOT depends on the individual ratings that make up that 67 OVR.
As a side note, the devs have stated that even for meter/analog, the pitcher's ratings STILL drive a lot of the outcomes, even if you hit the meter perfectly (hitting it perfectly just helps more).
So I’ve started a second franchise with the Mariners using 30 team control. I’m giving classic pitching a shot but man.... as a guy who’s played the show since 07/08 and always used meter pitching classic has me terrified.lol. It feels as if I have zero control. Gonna stick with though.
A quick question though. When pressing the x button to pitch if I hold it down I get a little vibration. Is that max effort so less control? Or should I just be tapping the x button?
It’s like learning to pitch all over again.

Yes, small sample size but played 2 games with these changes and it simply felt better. Really have to focus when I was batting as pitchers hitting their spots better. Really separates the good pitchers from the average pitchers. In my first game I beat the Orioles 7-5 - still on 12 hits but only 3 doubles and 1 homer.
I’m not a slider expert by any means and always follow Armour, but I have played enough good ball and many years of this game to have an idea what feels right.
So I’m starting my franchises over with pitch speed at 9/8 and solid hits at 4 and consistency at 6. For what it’s worth I’m a 56 year old fan of this gameLast edited by Burgess; 04-13-2020, 06:48 PM.Yankees modern day

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
Has anyone taken into account how horribly rated the pitchers are in this game? For example Mike Fiers was 15-4 with a 3.90 era and 1.19 whip. In the game is overall is a a 71, hits 65, Ks 51 (absolutely terrible) HR 41.
That’s just one example of the many pitchers in this game that are underrated and might be one of the main reasons why we are seeing this inflated offensive numbersComment

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
I swear it's as if the last 10 games I've somehow moved to uber-legend difficulty. My pitching is beyond terrible, giving up tons and tons of hits, tons of runs. I can't stop anyone. I've lost 8 of 10 and the games I have won were basically miracle comebacks in the last inning. I guess I'll just sell at the deadline and try to build some pitchers. And to think, I had the notion I would be making the playoffs and competing...Comment
