PJ Snell dropped a surprise last night uploading his 26 man 1988 Season roster.

Again MLB 20 is the gift that keeps on giving!!


So an update on our franchise plans. I have several rolling and they are all on MLB 20 now. Last night:

The 1987 Yankees Year 3 were blown out of Toronto in the ALDS losing the series 3 games to 1.

The irony? We made a trade in the Year 2 off-season sending Harold Baines and Dan Pasqua to the Jays for RF Jessie Barfield. Both Baines and Pasqua hit 2 HR’s each in game 4!!! They were bombs.

The World Series champion ended up being the K.C. Royals (the classic year is 1989 in this franchise as it was in year 3) who took down the S.F. Giants in a great series. George Brett was the post season MVP.

Don Mattingly won his 3rd straight Silver Slugger award for the Yankees.

The off-season saw the Yankees lose #1 pitcher Ben McDonald to the Giants!!! I even offered him more money.....and he still left. I was stunned and it was a big blow. We traded for McDonald in year 1 and developed him into an 87 rated top pitcher.....that SOB LOL!!

So we are going into year 4 down a key pitcher.

The other franchise we were able to finally move over to 20 is the:

Fantasy Flashback 1990-2007 roster S.F. Giants.


I drafted this team back on MLB 17. Year one we finished 80-82 and out of the post season. I played one and simmer 5 to get through year 1.

Well let me tell you......the incredible farm system I drafted is about to come full circle. My pitching staff is insane. My pipeline of young talent is also amazing and I expect to make a deep post season run for several years. We did re-sign Miguel Cabrera to a huge back loaded deal....he is one of my franchise players along with Ken Griffey Junior (who is under team control for a little while) we will not be able to retain Josh Beckett following year 2....but that is ok. Our pitching staff is flush with young and in team control guys (Verlander, Wainwright, David Price to name a few) this is going to be a very exciting franchise moving forward on MLB 20 and I look forward to streaming opening day soon.


The Matheny Manifesto a Cardinals Fantasy Draft Franchise Year 3

Has begun as well. Those who have followed me for a long time know this team and the Wrold Series run we had on MLB 16. We were knocked out of the NLCS in year 2 in seven games....and year 3 is now going. Look for streams on this puppy as well!!!

I mean I could go on and on and on folks. There is no way I was going to leave this game. I have absolutely zero interest in even playing 21.....it is like a non event tomorrow. Incredible it has come to this....but like I had been saying.

So we have this incredible swan song game right here to keep us going and I hope many of you keep enjoying the game. I think the OP is set...the new injury matrix and card system has added an incredible new life and eventually......I am sure I will fire up a brand new 2021 franchise with Brinskie’s (BryanMcnulty) 2021 updated roster.

It has come down to 2 teams.

The Nationals and The Royals.

I am leaning towards the Nationals as I have a Royals chise going with the
Strat-O-Matic roster.

Been playing them for years some are new (Bacon and Strat-O-Matic).

Take my time no rush.

Yankees Year 5 and Bacon are every pitch every inning

Cardinals was for two seasons now it is play one sim 5 except first month and last month and all divisional games. Same for Strat-O-Matic. The Giants Fantasy Flashback, 1993.....play and sim a good combo of that. I probably end up playing between 80-100 games in those franchises and quick manage the rest.

When I decide to do a single season replay....it is every game every pitch.

I think you should go Nats... for the reason above, and you might like some different scenery and some NL ball.

I'm sticking with MLB 20. Imagine if you could import this seasons schedule to 20. The only way I would consider buying 21 is if I had a Ps5. I'm just gonna start a new franchise with one of the updated vault rosters.

Always love your sliders. Using these for my Reds franchise on MLB 20 with updated 2021 rosters.

Reading through the OP I saw your injury matrix thing. I like the idea, but definitely a little bit more to keep up with to incorporate it fully as I may go days or even a week or so without playing so I'd forget a lot of it unless I wrote it all down.

Just wanted to suggest something for everyone and you for injuries that I do that is fair and works pretty well. First you need to set manage injuries to MLB only for current controlled teams so you get notifications when a MLB player is hurt. I like to always see these even though I let cpu manage by hitting Auto. I just like knowing who's hurt and all as the season goes along.

I leave the injury slider at 6 like you have it. Simulate every other game except mine as you do. Then SAVE the franchise. After saving, quick Sim your franchise game. If an injury pops up for either team I write it down, look at box score to determine when the player was hurt. Pitchers it is easy to see when by looking at innings pitched. For hitters I see their at bats.

Then, exit and RELOAD the franchise save. Now I actually play the game and when the time comes when the player is hurt I sub them out. If it is for the cpu I switch over to them to do so. Then after the game I change injury to manual to create the injury they had and place on IL if needed etc, then put injury setting back to on from manual.

This feels more fair and easy to do. Since all the games, including mine are now simulated with same settings.


Also, off topic...I switch over to cpu mid game to put in a reliever or different when needed. The AI likes to leave guys in for 2-3 innings and then some if you don't. Easy to rake off the AI when they do that so I switch over to help them out when needed. I just put in a guy already warming up, don't bother to completely manage their bullpen but you very well could go deeper if you wanted.

I've been lurking the other threads to read on 21 impressions, and I'm blown away.

You can't play night games in created stadiums, and that won't change this year??? I'm not understanding it lol, why even have this feature for nexgen if it's missing a vital part? Apparently it "may" be patched in though.

21 Nexgen sounds like an absolute disaster. It's crazy to think that the PS4 Version(Which can be played on PS5 THANKFULLY) is the best version....especially since stadium creator is not a "full" feature.

Really can't believe that this is the 1st time since PS3 I have 0 interest in the new Show game. Thank you 20 for being so smooth and awesome on PS5.

I am impressed with the MLB21 on PS4 version. But yeah, not to play night games on the created stadiums is crazy. They said they put years into this and they forgot that part?

I think the 30 stadiums they generated are okay...nothing that caught my eye that I would want to move my team to. I do think the Field of Dreams look-alike would be cool to play a special series in but not a whole season. So I'm happy playing the PS4 version so I can have SOTS.

There are some new lines for the announcers but I'm sure those will get old fast. The score bug is okay. Getting used to it. A perfect world would have been to add that to score bug to a 3rd presentation option. The animations look great.

People will like the feature that you can turn off Heidi. If you do have her on, you can skip her now by holding the X button. There is an option to turn off the sideline reporter for the pregame. So there must be some cases that she speaks before the game.

Some things I have noticed with stadiums, I am sad that we still can't get Big Mac Land in Busch Stadium. Or at least a look-a-like logo there. The Brewers park is nice but I played there during the day and I don't know if it was the shadows but CF was really dark.

1000% agree.

This is going to be another fantastic year of MLB The Show baseball on the PS4 and in some of our cases the PS5.

And Titans was 100% spot on about how the game plays on the PS5.

It is simply amazing. If you have a 4K HDR tv you will be blown away at the new level of smoothness and details.

Like new game folks.

We are thrilled to have this game and the enormous amount of roster content!!!

Same. I still have a PS4 “regular” model. I have toyed with the idea of searching for a 5, but can’t justify the expense given the available feedback. MLB14 was a system seller for me. Sad that MLB21 is not the same for the PS5.

With that said, without our leader getting MLB21, I am hesitant to even purchase it myself. I don’t have the time to slider test, and I know he goes above and beyond in his sample sizes. I’d feel I was blindly playing 21 without his guidance!

We need to setup a go fund me to eat the cost of 21 for him so he can get the 21 players a dope set [emoji51]

First. I truly appreciate the kind words. We have a great group inside this thread and I have always loved sharing settings and franchises, knowledge, stories...the whole gambit with all of you.

I would not even waste my time testing MLB 21 because I have zero....and I mean zero desire to play or support the game.

I am pretty much moving on from SDS until I see a re-comittment to offline simulation players. They have clearly jumped the shark from us...the pioneer players of this once great series to go on the Diamond Dynasty/Esports bandwagon. And I get it. I understand this is a business and the trend is your friend.

But just because I understand it....does not mean I have to sugar coat it, support it, or like it.

I think this entire release has reeked of horse***t. From the removal of Y2Y saves to SOTS to now.....you do not even earn XP if you play with custom sliders?

Remember the whole "you do not have to play DD or online or buy stubs to earn stubs or to earn packs?"

Gone.....like a fart in the wind. They are fully monetizing the game and trying to force offline franchise players to either go along.....or simply get out. They simply have moved on from us.

We have a game here in MLB 20 that will IMO stand the test of time throughout the entire PS5 cycle. Mark that down and mark my words....you will get far more joy playing MLB 20 on a new gen console (PS5) than any future release of this series from this point forward on the PS5.

I simply see no commitment to improve franchise mode, bring back Y2Y, bring back SOTS.

Once this game went multi platform.....that was it. We lost that exclusivity that allowed them to deliver genre defining features like Year to Year franchise and RTTS saves and Sounds of the Show.

It is gone.

I am not wasting my time playing a game I have no heart or desire to play. So I appreciate the gesture to get me a copy.....but money is of absolutely no concern to me (remember I used to give away copies every cycle for “What does baseball mean to you” because I loved this game and wanted to give back). I can simply get this game at the end of the year for $5 or free on PSN just to see how it really has gone.

Last nights DD stream was so very telling. It went a freaking hour. The glee and bravado of unveiling that mode was gross.

I have no qualms with those that love playing DD. I get it. And it is kinda fun here and there and I love collecting the cards.

But I cannot even collect anymore because I play franchise mode with custom sliders. That is how I earned all my progress, XP and packs and cards.

NO MORE!!!! FU offline franchise player.....you must fit into this box now.

They lost me......permanently. And it is truly on principle as being a true “old school” pioneer video gamer.

I started playing video games on the first consoles ever made. I am that late 70’s early 80’s kid who helped support this industry and now? Screw them.

They are fired from my video game life. They gave me 15 years of bliss....I thank them whole heartedly for it.

I have everything I can ever want on MLB 20.

MLB The Show 20.

Well said, Armor. As I said, I hope the sales and their revenue fall way short of their expectations and force their hands. But I don't see their sales dropping because what they lose with us they gain with Xbox users. I am impressed with 21's very minor improvements but can not say "this was better than 20". They took out way way way way more than they put in. It is almost like they are laughing at us franchise users when they see us ask them about the feature they removed.

And now I'm seeing a couple of users said that the 21 SOTS on PS4 aren't sticking after turning the console off. If that is true, I don't see them putting the time to fix that in a patch. They have to keep the DD customers happy.
