Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I still have a 3.2 ghz P4 sitting around that I run OOTP 14 on occasionally. It's not great for huge leagues, but runs perfectly well on smaller ones.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Well I just downloaded OOTP 14 onto my 4 year old laptop and it seems fine. NOW.. I want to make a League of oldtime teams..
70 Baltimore, 04 Boston, 75 Reds, 88 Dodgers and so on..
I got to the part where I delete the teams and deleted the Baltimore team, NOW my problem,,, It wants a database? Is there one that comes with the game that has historic teams or do I need to go online and download one? And WHICH One would be best,, IF there is more than one?Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Really liked what I've seen from OOTP. I want to pick it up but I'm not sure if I can wait until the release of 15. Should I just take 14 now since it's on sale or wait for 2 months?Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I have a question about this game. I am playing OOTP 14. I just started playing it yesterday. I was wondering about the game logic involving free agents and computer controlled signings in the manager options.
So my first problem I had was when I set the computer to control free agents and resigning etc. I did this randomly almost half way through the season for only a couple days. I am playing as the Mariners just so you know. Anyways, by this point I have also noticed that some of my players want ridiculous contract extensions. Mike Morse (1b/3b) wanted a six year extension worth around 90 million dollars. Well, when I set it to computer controlled for resigning etc, the computer (Eric freakin Wedge) signed Morse to that deal. I immediately changed the option back, but it was too late as I got the notification in my manager email. I ended up just trading him in the off season for anything. However, I still wanted him on the team as he was an occasional starter. However, I don't even know if that would have been possible because it seems really difficult to negotiate with some guys which leads me to the next situation.
After the season ended, Kendry Morales hit free agency. I think he was my best hitter on the team, playing first base as well. During the season, he wanted a contract of 5 years at 20 million each year. I thought this would diminish in free agency but it never did. He still wanted the same deal. I tried offering a couple different contracts with different bonuses, but he rejected me both times and eventually closed all negotiations.
So my questions are:
Does the computer occasionally make bone headed signings or is just a fluke? Or is it a once per year deal? In other words, how often do those things happen?
Also, why are some of the players and free agents asking for such high contract values? In the game, Morales is a three star player, but he played more like a 5 star player with regards to hitting. However, I don't see how he would ask for 20 million a year. Not to mention, he was asking for that before the season even reached the all star game. He hadn't even finished his great season yet. And even though he finished well, I don't understand the logic in the evaluations.
Any thoughts?Comment

You can always turn on and adjust the AI evaluation settings which also impacts the way the AI looks at giving contracts.
I don't know how any of your settings are set so its hard to respond to your problem as everyone's experience with the game is different because of the many options we have.
For example. If AI evaluation is not ticked than I believe only ratings are responsible for OVR which impacts contracts. But if it is ticked then it depends on how it is weighted. For instance stats from previous years could impact the player's OVR and asking price.
And then there is the option on how players are rated. Are they rated by position or by league talent? So many different outcomes.Comment

Ok, thanks. I don't think I have even seen those settings in the game. They have to be in default. The only settings I messed with were the Manager options with regards to signing free agents, scouting, initiate/react to trades etc. Out of those, all of them were computer managed except initiate/react to trades and signing contracts, although the contract option was computer controlled only for a limited time as I described in the post. Overall, I don't know what the default setting are either, but it sounds like they are not preset to favor any specific thing.Comment

Yea I don't remember what the default settings are either. But if you are using the MLB QuickStart, its good to know that it was created by a volunteer so the preset settings may not be the best settings.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I'm thinking about getting ootp 15 since there won't be any good baseball game for the Xbox. I've played iootp 13 and i though it was fantastic, so i can imagine that the PC/Mac version is 5x better. I just have one question. Can you create online leagues in this game? or play online in some sort of way?MLB: Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves
NBA:Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies

With contracts I think someone found the default for the pay scale is a bit off, but I can't remember for sure, would have to see what on the main forums.Comment
