Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Finally setup the game with some options to make it more interesting (allowing trades between majors, all majors being able to evolve, etc.). Some of this stuff is just weird.
Barry Zito is now on the Goyang Wonders of the Korean Futures League
News about a pitchers son starting Kindergarten (seriously, why is this relevant?)
Partially torn ulnar injuries everywhere
Jose Bautista getting hurt for 4 weeks while batting .214
Player gets knocked unconscious by a pitching machine
Miguel Tejada signing with Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, who then proceeds to injury himself for 2-3 weeks while stretchingComment

Well, you're purposely setting up weird stuff, so I can't exactly tell you to TURN OFF LEAGUE EVOLUTION.Conference Realignment Guides: NCAA 12-14, College Football 25Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I'm playing iOOTP on my iPhone. I'm playing as the Reds and I am 65-41 and 10 games up in my division. I received the following trade offer that really has me thinking.
I was offered Stephen Strausburg (26 years old, 12-5 and 2.94 era) Salary is $3,975,00 1 yr (1 yr ext.)
No idea what I would have to pay for him once he came up for a new contract.
FOR
1. Joey Votto (30 years old 1B, .304 17 HR 66 RBI, All Star) Salary is $21,444,444 for 9 YEARS.
2. Phillip Ervin (22 yr old RF, no stats, but has a 4 star potential rating, currently 9 contact, 8 power, 6 eye, 12 defense and is 1 star at the moment)
3. Daniel Mateo (22 yr old 3B, no stats, 1 star potential, currently contact 9, power 5, eye 7, defense 9)
4. Manny Parra (31 yr old left hand RP, currently 4 stars, now 3-1, 1.34 ERA in 24 appearances, has 17 stuff, 15 movement, 10 control, 5 stamina
I have good starting pitching, but Strausburg is a once in a generation pitcher. I'd hate to give up Votto, but I have Neftali Soto as a backup 1B who is hitting .310 with 10 HRs in only 58 at bats, while playing 3B. This Phillip Ervin guy is someone I didn't know I had in the organization, but he looks like he could be a very good player in a few years. The Mateo kid is no problem, will get rid of him without question. Manny Parra has been great for me this year, but I have an overabundance of relief pitching. I have at least 2 really good pitchers that could take his place from AAA, so his loss is not that significant.
At first glance I think this is something I would like to do, although I kinda thought Votto was untradeable for me. Would just like some other thoughts. Thanks.Last edited by Koolie G; 05-16-2014, 11:43 AM.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I see no reason why to turn off league evolution unless you want all other leagues to be stuck in time so-to-speak. Anything to keep the game fresh and interesting is always a bonus. Having one league (MLB) dominate the a static game world forever is boring.Comment

Playing the Miami Marlins....two walk off losses in extras because of bombs by Giancarlo Stanton.
Maybe I should quit pitching to him?Comment

Man I regret getting the steam version of this game because know I know where 45 hours has gone.
Anyway I've been addicted to my Cubs franchise. Made it to the WS in 2018 but was swept from that point on I was determined to do want ever it took, I ending up trading for Matt Moore (cost me Javier Baiez but it was worth it) and signed Stephen Strasburg to add to Matt Latos (signed a year before). In 2020 Cubs fans finally were able to bask in a championship. We went 108-54 in that season dominating the MLB all year long, top 10 in every offensive category besides steals and #1 in MLB in Starter ERA, Bullpen ERA. I had to trade Strasburg the next offseason for financial reasons but we still finished with 102 but lost in the first round to the eventual champions, the Reds.
I think I may be done with this Cubs franchise most real life players are gone which feels weird being set in the MLB. I may start a completely fictional league (never done one before) start with 8-10 teams and set it up so the league can fully evolve and expand randomly.
Question, if I create a Fictional league can sub-leagues be added automatically overtime? Similar to how there's an option to have the game automatically add expansion teams? I was thinking of start a 1 sub-league,1 divison, 8 team (maybe 6). Also is it possible that certain teams will change their names or location over time?Last edited by JWR3232; 05-20-2014, 09:10 PM.New York Yankees

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Going into August, my Reds were 8.5 behind the Brewers for first place and scratching and fighting with the Braves, Padres, and Rockies for one of the two wildcard spots. I've got one of the top offenses in the NL, but my bullpen has been my Achilles heel. I traded away Koji Uehara when he turned into a $9.5 million bust signing for my bullpen and reacquired Juan Francisco from the Braves to shore up 3rd base since Todd Frazier suffered a horrible sophomore slump. I moved Chapman into the rotation, reinstalled Marshall as the closer (who has been lights out as a setup man for me in 2013 after struggling mightily as a closer in 2012). Votto is slashing .341/.432/.604 and looks to be the front runner for the MVP as he has won two Batter of the Month awards.
Nine days later, that lead has been trimmed to 2.5 and suddenly the NL Central is a race again. Brewers lost Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks to injury in consecutive games. I get Jay Bruce back in two weeks and hopefully my starting pitching, which struggled early in the year, continues the dominance they have shown during this 7 game winning streak.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
It's frustrating to have almost your entire team pitching absolutely lights out, while the batters can't hit the broad side of a barn to save their lives.
Year one all-star break. I don't think I've ever been as frustrated with a save as with this one. Chris Marrero has only played in ~10 games, I brought him up to play first because he was hitting (in 364 AB at Triple-A) .360/.420/.646 with 32 doubles, 24 HR, 40 BB and 71 K. Hopefully he can make the adjustment.
Right before the All-Star Break is when Harper finally picked his average up. He's been hovering around .250 all season (but has a decent OBP and SLG.) Zim and Werth started off hot but crashed.
Oh yeah... Jordan Zimmerman? 11-4 in 20 starts. 17 of those 20 are quality starts. 3 complete games, 2 shut outs. Straus has 17 QS in 18 starts (he got hurt and put on the 15-day DL early in the season.)
My hitting is letting me down. Storen got moved to closer after Soriano hit a rough patch, but he's bouncing back nicely in the set-up role (until he starts to complain of course.)Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Ended up not winning the division, as the Brew Crew swept us in a crucial 3 game series the last week of the season that cost the division. Clinched hosting the wild card playoff by taking 3 of 4 from the Pirates.
Hosted the Cubs and I had set up my rotation so that Mat Latos would pitch the game. Yeah, Cueto was the more consistent, but Latos was more likely to throw a gem (which he didn't).
Defeated the Cubbies 14-8 to move on to face the Giants. Lost to them in four.
Had to trade Latos for financial reasons (damn arbitrator giving him $10.5 million) and then at the end of spring training, Cueto and Bailey both suffer major injuries. So my rotation is currently....
1. Johan Santana (signed after the season started)
2. AJ Burnett (ditto)
3. Daniel Corcino (prospect)
4. Kyle Lohse (signed after the season started)
5. Todd Redmond (AAAA pitcher)
Despite this, only 3 games out 36 games into the season. Cueto is on rehab assignment, get Homer back in 2-3 weeks. Maybe I'll hang in there.Comment
