Thinking about getting this, just had a few questions for those who've played it.

how is the draft handled, how many rounds, do you have slot allocations and what are the odds high schools decide not to sign and go to school instead?

I saw some people posting scores of 20-30 runs, how often does this happen?

Can you use the MLB and create 2 expansion teams to start the 2015 season?

        Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

The draft has as many rounds as in real life, which is somewhere around 30, correct? (I admit that in the game, I draft the first few rounds and then let the AI finish the rest, so I've actually never paid attention to that.)

Yes, there are slot allocations. Not sure about odds of high school guys not signing, but it does happen in the game. I'd have to ask Markus if it mirrors real life (and if there's enough data to make it mirror real life).

20-30 runs in a game shouldn't happen any more frequently than it does in real life. The OOTP sim engine has been fine-tuned for the past 16 years, and it has many parameters that ensure scoring is in line with the current year. (So, yes, if you go back to the dead ball era, guys won't hit 35 home runs a year, for example.)

Yes, you can very easily create 2 expansion teams in MLB to start the 2015 season. Just make sure you do that right away, while you're still in the pre-season, and the game will hold an expansion draft and create new teams, who you can rename and relocate, if you want.

BTW, there are tons of customization options. You can change how expansion and relocation happened in the past, or you can let it happen the way it really did. Feel free to ask more questions and I can answer them.

Thanks Brad, simply for the fact that you took the time out to give me such a detailed answer has won me over, you earned my money . I'll be downloading tonight from Steam, going to do a current Blue Jays save and an expansion Expos save.

Anyway to get this Thread over to the main board. Seems there would be a lot more interest, plus you wouldn't have to go thur 75 pages. WWE has a place there for cry out loud.

            Just a thought.

Best bet is to take it up with Millennium, but there definitely needs to be some traffic for OOTP to get its own Sub-Forum (basically what you're asking for).

                Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

Played the first 2 games as my Blue Jays, game 1 Buerhle gives up 3 homeruns in 5 innings and the Yanks killed us 10-1. Game 2 was a bit better winning 5-4 thanks to a 2 run homer in the top of the 8th from Reyes. Loup then loads the bases in the bottom of the ninth (very realistic) but he manages to pitch his way out of it (not so realistic ).

One thing that bothered me so far, the trade logic. Colorado traded Charlie Blackmon to Oakland for 2 minor league catching prospects.... Guess Colorado really needs catchers.

One thing I'm having trouble with, maybe someone can chime in. Chaning Pilar's defensive ratings, he's got absolutely terrible CF ratings, but just watch the man, he's been a human highlight reel this year. I tried doing it in the editor with Commish mode active but I can't get him past a 12 even after maxing out his defense (which I didn't want to do but was getting annoyed not being able to get him over 10). Why can't I edit this, or even his main position? Am I doing something wrong?

                  Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

You're welcome, Nolan8300. Glad you're enjoying the game.

RE your questions: I assume you didn't change the default trading settings. You can make it harder or easier for yourself to make trades with the AI.

RE AI-to-AI trades: That's something we'll never be able to perfect, but we're always working on improving it. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the AI doesn't "see" names, just ratings and stats, so it's not looking at players the same way most fans do.

However, in Game Settings > AI Settings, you can change whether the AI favors prospects or veterans in trades. (It's set to neutral by default.) You can also change the weight that the AI gives to stats and ratings when evaluating players for trades, but I admit I don't know enough about that to make suggestions. However, we have some long-time players on our forums who can offer advice there.

RE Pilar's ratings: I assume you have scouting enabled, which is the default when you start a new league. You won't see his ratings change until he's scouted again. If you turn off scouting you remove that "fog of war," so to speak, and ratings changes are reflected right away.

In the meantime, though, Pilar will play at a heightened level of ability. It's just that your scout won't know you gave him a superpower pill until he gets around to scouting that player again, at which time he'll basically say, "Wow, dude is like Spider-Man in centerfield," and adjust accordingly. Or, you can click "Available Actions" on the right side of the player profile and ask your scout to scout the player, which he will do as soon as he can, so you'll see the ratings change sooner.

And keep in mind that there are two scouts in the game: Your scout and OSA, which is the game world's scouting organization. They will likely differ in certain ratings areas. (You can switch between them in the upper right of the player profile.) If you don't like the job your scout is doing, you can fire him and replace him with someone better, which will give you more accurate ratings. (But note that as in real life, even an awesome scout can be wrong sometimes.)

                  Hope that helps.

That's awesome! I actually had a feeling that was the problem with Pilar's ratings but didn't think the game would be that precise with scouting impacting ratings you can see. I'll go in turn scouting off fix his ratings then turn it back on.

Also with scouting, I notice my scout gives pretty much all my prospects a 1 star potential rating but OSA gives guys like Pompey 4 1/2. I assume as the game goes along and these guys get scouted more this should change.

This is such a great game to play while watching baseball on TV.

                    Again, thanks Brad.

Yeah, it should change, but your scout might also not be very good. ;-)

Your scout has his own abilities, so you can check him out and fire him, if you want.

Sorry, no. We don't do roster updates past Opening Day. Any roster updates we include in game updates are only effective as of Opening Day in the game. We don't have the manpower to do post-trading deadline roster updates, but you can always check our forum to see if anyone has created anything.

Yeah, I was assuming that there wasn't any official updates to rosters/ratings, I just took a quick glimpse at the rosters/images mod section on the forums and didn't really see anything in the way of rosters so I was just wondering.
