After the latest patch, I'm noticing some of the animations have a little bit more "bang bang" urgency to them. Also appears as though they tuned SP stamina so that the stamina depletes more slowly in game.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I have not upgraded to OOTP Baseball 19. I still only have OOTP 16. But I fired the game up last night to look at some of the minor league players now that I have a better idea as to how the whole baseball minor league system works. Now being the General Manager of a baseball organization what with the MLB team, AAA, AA, High A, Low A, all the rookie league teams not to mention the various other minor league teams out the the Dominican Republic (and other similar countries) seems like a full time job. As tempting as I was to have a go, it seems too much trying to manage all those players. But I did have a previous OOTP 16 historical season save file I am only in late May with (the 1981 Montreal Expos), so I thought I would play the next game on the schedule (it's been a couple of years since I played one). For the first 8 innings of the game, it was tons of fun. Playing as the Manager in a home Expos game against the Cardinals, I took a 3-2 lead into the top of the 9th where I inserted Expos closer Woody Fryman into the game to close it out. What happened next? Fryman not only gave up a single on a dinky infield hit. But then he proceeded hit not one, but two batters loading up the bases. Since he hit two batters the OOTP game ejected him. Fortunately I had another pitcher who was warming up in the bullpen. But what next? The next pitcher walked the first guy he faced allowing the Cardinals to tie the game 3-3. But it's not over. Then he hits another batter. WTF ... three hit batters in one inning. I did not finish the game. My bad, I shut it down. I am thinking I should try and continue my 1981 historical OOTP 16 season since the Expos are only 2 games behind the division leading Phillies (BTW these two teams battled it out that year, OOTP has done a very good job to date emulating what happened back in 1981). But that was just too much for me to stomach. Three batters hit in one inning.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Anyone else start as a low minors manager and work their way up? Im personally thinking of starting that way instead of an MLB GM right away. Just doesn't seem realistic considering id start at Opening Day with a roster I had no choice over.PSN / Xbox GT - BLUEnYELLOW28Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Granted, I don't have control over the roster but I'm alright with that because I have to adjust on the fly if the GM decides he needs to call up one of my players to a higher level or to demote a guy. I also play out every pitch of every game because I feel that it gives me a better connection to these little players in my universe.
I once tried working my way up from rookie league and I might give that a go again some day but I found that rookie ball was a bit too much of a grind with players that I know will likely never make it to the majors, at least in AA some of these guys have a shot at the show. I also took the time to set the minor league rosters to their RL limits (minus nationality, age, or service time restrictions) so that AAA and AA have 25 men and everything below that has 35. Additionally, I took the time to research the minors for the included international leagues and set limits accordingly and saved this all as a template.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
That’s what I’m doing currently. I manage the Double A Cardinals team. It’s challenging because you’re deemed inexperience and in my case my number one pitcher went down with a 5 month injury and I already had only 4 man rotation. You’re at the mercy of your organization’s GM. I too play out every pitch and really get into each game.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I got this game a couple days ago. Been trying it out. I don't know if I'll stick with it, I have plenty of other games I need to play and this one is probably too complex to stick with.
But is it me or is the quick manage button really a quick lose button? I win games when I "play" them but quick managing? Nope!Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I really, really wish the AI was better at developing defensive monsters in the minors.
If the kid will make it because of, or at least with a heavy assist from, his glove, and he has the defensive tools, he should be playing everywhere. Let him get the experience all over the diamond, and he'll get enough playing time to hit as well in the process.
It's just frustrating to a see a guy with 3 or 4 plus or better defensive tools in both the IF and OF departments have one good position and a bunch of 20s and 30s because he only got occasional time there.
Especially if the manager doesn't let you set lineups or if you let the AI do it to help lighten the load (like I do for the minors).
I was only able to get Derrick Cherry to do his thing because Scoiscia allows GM lineups, so I could spend spring training and some time even at the majors letting Cherry play at less experienced spots at times. If I had a manager that didn't do that, so much of Cherry's value would have been wasted for no good reason. He's a back-up, he's gonna be that 25th man/utility grinder kind of player that sticks because he does whatever the team needs with skill - game needs to recognize that and develop accordingly.Last edited by KBLover; 05-13-2018, 08:00 PM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Anyone happen to know the record for hit batters in a season?
Because I think I've got the guy that will shatter records in that department.
Tim Mavity has 44 hit batters. He's only walked 41 batters.
I love this AB:
Code:<table class="data" width="968px" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tbody><tr><td class="dl" width="268px" valign="top">Pitching: RHP Tim Mavity </td><td class="dl" width="700px"> </td></tr><tr><td class="dl" width="268px" valign="top"> Batting: RHB Ronald Acuna </td><td class="dl" width="700px"> 0-0: Ball 1-0: Called Strike 1-1: Foul Ball, location: 2F 1-2: Ball 2-2: Ball 3-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 3-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 3-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 3-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 3-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 3-2: Hit by Pitch </td></tr></tbody></table>
He hit five guys that game.
This is insane LOL
Edit: He hit Paul Goldschmidt, too, in the same inning. Same kind of AB - lots of fouls and then a HBP.
Next time up, Acuna hit the first pitch for an RBI double, only run Mavity would give up.
Third time up? Acuna got hit by a pitch LOLLast edited by KBLover; 05-13-2018, 09:08 PM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Bought the game over the weekend & am surprisingly hooked on it. I say surprisingly because I am not a big sim guy, I prefer swinging the bat, but managing hitters & pitchers down to swinging, working counts, and pitching around, has really made the difference.
Booted up & have began with the Cubs. Currently 8-5 & feeling things out. Almora is raking and leads our lineup with a .320+ avg, Rizzo has been an OBP monster leading off, and Schwarber either slugs it or strikes out. Bryant hasn't had the best start so I've moved him down to fifth in the lineup, while Russell, Heyward, Contreras, and Zobrist are hit and miss. May move Baez to fulltime and bench Zobrist, or at the very least, platoon the two. Pitching wise it's been pretty rough. Darvish and Quintana are chucking pretty well, but even they've had a few hiccups. Lester has been awful, giving up multi early inning homeruns and his control has been a big issue. Hendricks has been fine for a four guy & I have Chatwood as my five guy instead of Montgomery who is my LRP. Montgomery has actually pitched pretty well thus far & there's a chance I may move him back in at some point.
It's early, so I am taking things with a grain of salt. Thinking about starting a thread in the Baseball Dynasty section just to document and track like I do with many of my franchises.~ Return of the King ~Comment
