ASB was a good game last year. Just boils down to personal preferance.

One thing I hope they work on in ASB is the sound. The crowd is so quiet and boring, it makes the game feel boring to play sometimes

I agree. The atmosphere was dead in last year's game. They need to add some more excitement to the game. Hecklers shouting, the crowd going crazy, taunts from players etc.

Ditto for me on this one. I will, however be glad to accept the confirmation of online play for a couple of other baseball games with the initials "WSB" or "HH".

I have read articles confirming that neither HH or WSB will be online, which is why ASB is at the top of the list for me. Id gladly take WSB over ASB if it had online play.

Hasn't online baseball play (console wise) been a failure in the past? I had heard so...

was 2k2 online ready?? I never realized that.

I have had a blast playing HH online on the PC. With the performance of XBL I see no reason why online baseball on the XBOX.

2k2 online was awesome. Im not sure what past game you heard were failures Arenas, but 2k2 on the DC was possibly one of the best sports games ive ever played online.

Online baseball in the past probably wasn't too hot because your average DC owner had dial up not broadband. Microsoft made a great choice by making XBLive broadband only. I think online baseball will be fine with broadband. High Heat on the PC has had successful online play for a few years - if you had broadband.

2K2 online was terrible. No pitching cursor, no batting cursor, just pitch and hope the other guy doesn't time it right. Timing it right was HARD. You had to account for the lag and start your swing swing that much in advance. Same deal with fielding. You'd stop running, but the guy you were controlling wouldn't stop for another second or so...not so bad in football, but if you're trying to catch a fly ball it was really frustrating.

                            ASB appeal fails me.

I think it and WSB were mediocre at best. ASB got to be a homer fest even with players that shouldn't be hitting homers.

That and the batting cursor has got to go. I can never understand the appeal to something like this. Baseball players do have two swing, contact and hit it hard. But something like this can't really be simmed all that well. Bonds doesn't have a contact swing he just swing hard at everything. Then look at Helton, there's one of the best pure swings in the game. If it's a bad pitch he'll try to get a peice of hit, it it's in his powerhouse he'll swing hard. Very few ball players make a contact swing on a hittable pitch. They may make a bad swing but you never see players come up to the plate see a hanging curve or a fastball up and just swing casually at it.

Plus ASB needs to work on it's game times. Football games I expect to see 45 minute games but baseball sheesh it makes for a gaming experience that feels like work when you get to the 7th inning and now the outcome of the game.

I have no problem with people liking All Star Baseball. Its a beautiful game. I just can't get where people see the realism in it. And Guru before you jump me on this one its just my observation.

It comes from watching many, many MLB games, both on TV and in person.... that's what I use as my comparison as to what is real and what is not. I've never seen players that move like they do in a game like High Heat, nor have I ever seen a ball travel the way it does in that game. I have yet to see the Rockies make the World Series in real life, but have seen that and more in HH.... think how baffled you are about my view of ASB being realistic, multiply that same feeling by about 20, and then you'll see how I feel about HH.

Just because a game like HH is simplistic doesn't mean it's realistic. Sorry if ASB is too hard for you, but nobody ever said playing major league ball was easy.

As for what JRod said, I completely disagree... watch a guy like Ichiro bat... does he take power swings on hanging breaking balls? Your disection of hitting into just power and contact leaves out alot of the game... what about the inside-out swing? What about the players that can push the ball between 1st and 2nd to advance the runner to 3rd? Do they do this with just timing, or is there more involved? That was a rhetorical question... there is more involved. Foot placement, angle of the hips, position of the hands... the cursor may not be perfect, but at least it gives the user the ability to hit according to the situation, which many major league batters do on a daily basis.
