How long until your league switches to 2007? Just wondering because I'd defiantly be interested, but just have 2007 right now.

well- just fyi, I dont mind spending a "season on the bench" just starting getting to know all the stuff involved in the game..'

needless to say, my Mets team (2006) is a mess. Pedro, Wright, & Beltran right now are out for 4 or more weeks!! (all happened at the end of spring training)

Re: Any OOTP 2007 preview winners here?

Damn I'm tempted to download this game

I've never been interested in text based games much but I've watched a few videos on this game and done some reading on OOTP's website and I think the tide is turning

At one time I had a text based baseball game (forget the name) but I don't think it was OOTP.

I have a few questions if someone could answer them for me:

                    1) Typically how long does it take to actively manage a game from start to finish??

                    2) While the game is being played, is it a pitch by pitch experience or do you only see the "final" outcome of each at bat regardless of the number of pitches thrown ???

                    3) Can you play a single pickup game for fun against another person ??? In a non league environment ???

                    4) Are online leagues fully customizable as far as league size, number of teams, etc....??? What is the minimum league size allowable in OOPTP 2007 ??? Could I run a 4 person league if I wanted to ???

                    5) Do online leagues have some sort of website associated with them where the league members can go to check stats, standings, etc... ???

Just some stuff I'd like to know that may push me over the edge in buying this game.

At some point, I'd love to get in an OS league if the opportunity presents itself.

                    Thanks guys for any help

                      I'll answer what I can...

                      1) Depends what mode you're playing in (pitch by pitch, whole at bat, etc) I don't manage many games so can't give you a specific time.

                      2) You can do either pitch by pitch or play the whole at bat. You can also sim ahead to specific innings, etc.

                      3) Only if you're at the same computer.

                      4) Yes, they're full customizable. You have the same options as a single player league. I think the minimum league size is 2 teams.

                      5) Yes it's usually set up by the league's commissioner. Here is the site I created for my league: http://ootp.oldredboat.com. Click on Full Reports to see what the game creates. Feel free to register there if you're interested in joining the waiting list.

Your responses have led me to one more question. Seeing that a pickup game can only be played on the same computer.......... In terms of league play, how are the league games played out ??? Is there any online connectivity where you can manage a game against another human ??

Thanks again and I'll check out the league site.

You don't manage the games. Basically how it works is you make changes to your team (transactions, lineups, strategy, etc) and export a file within the game that gets copied to my ftp server. I then download those files for every team into my copy and simulate a week in the game. I then upload the results for you to download and we repeat the process.

                            Ok, gotcha

I think I may go ahead and get the game, sounds like fun and a nice change of pace from being a thumbstick jockey 100% of the time.

Re: Any OOTP 2007 preview winners here?

Picked up the game a few days ago, loved playing it so I went ahead and bought it. I have a few beginner questions though:

-When I am managing a game, the scoreboard doesn't work, so I can't see the score except for in the play-by-play box. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

-The whole waiver system confuses me. I place a guy on waivers who I don't want, they stay there without anybody signing them and then his time is up, what can I do now? Releasing him still hurts my $$$$, so what was the point of placing a guy on waivers?

-I just started a new league as the manager of a single A team. What all responsabilities do I have there? Can I call up from short season A or rookie ball or is my entire roster at the mercey of the higher powers?

-Is there anywhere I can find a quickstart setup with real MLB and minor league teams? I found the logos, and I'm fine with typing in the MLB teams manually, but typing in all of the minor league teams would be a pain. It seems that you can download a quickstart file with everything pre-set, anybody have an idea where?

Thanks, I'm enjoying the game so far, but I still don't feel like I totally understand everything that is going on.

Yeah, maybe a video card or resolution issue? You should see the score in the upper left corner.

-The whole waiver system confuses me. I place a guy on waivers who I don't want, they stay there without anybody signing them and then his time is up, what can I do now? Releasing him still hurts my $$$$, so what was the point of placing a guy on waivers?
What you can do: It depends. If the guy accepts a minor league assignment you can just plop him in your minor league system. If it's a veteran player who refuses to go down to AAA, you must release him after his time on the wire expires. The point of the waiver wire, for veterans anyway, is hoping someone claims him so you don't have to eat his salary if you cut him; sometimes you may not want to lose a player but at the same time don't want him on your 25 man roster, so it's a risk to demote vets.

For all of the real teams and players, (from 1901 to 2006 anyway) grab the Lahman Database. There is a roster mod out I believe that adds all of the minor league teams as well as their logos and jerseys. Check the forums at http://www.ootpdevelopments.com and you can either find what you need or someone can lead you to them.

Thanks, I'm enjoying the game so far, but I still don't feel like I totally understand everything that is going on.
Make sure to watch the video tutorials and also grab the online manual, which weighs in at 500 pages in a PDF file. It's a big, big, game.
