New stuff not posted here yet:

    - New camera on defense
    - Expert pitching system from Pro Yakyuu Spirits (where the American games copied it from), press a button at release to match the circle for most effective pitch
    - There is a basic edit mode...looks like you can only change names, jersey number, and appearance but not the actual attributes.
    - New default hitting angle will show you a wider view of the field, but there's another new batting camera called Wide - you can the widest view when batting - not sure if this is specific for 16:9. You can still switch to classic camera if you want for batting/pitchng/defense.
    - The pitch indicator can be chosen from Point-style (like every other Pawapuro game) or Ball-style, which is like from the videos on GameSpot, you can see the seams moving on the ball as it comes toward you.
    - Season mode goes up to 10 years, and you can have 3 separate save files, so you can have 3 different seasons going on at the same time if you want.
    - Wait, I'm not sure I understand the difference between ball-style and point-style pitching. Could you expand on that?
    - I'm not sure why they have to limit us to three season files when we have a hard drive in the machine. Maybe that's just PS2? Not that I care since I'll have two going at once but that kind of thing is annoying game design.
    - Is the button-timing pitch release thing like the MLB 2k games these past two years or is it kind of a feel thing. Since we've never had the Spirits games over here I have no idea what they do.
    - A basic edit mode is something at least. I'm going to assume they screw up bench players so at least getting them their correct names is good. Weak that there is no full edit mode but I was prepared for that.
    - Some of the ratings in your following post are wildly off, lol. Dice K with "A" control? Hah. He's going to be the monster they were hoping he would be I guess. The little abilities/tendencies like "Doctor K" and "escape pitch" are intriguing though. Any idea how much those affect things?

The Bigs for Wii was not a great product IMO....

I will admit that I have a bias for control schemes that at least attempt to mimic the moves that you make when playing real baseball. The control scheme in the Bigs not only felt nothing like playing baseball, but it produced an irritating set of chores just to play the game.

Pitching in the Bigs was about as inauthentic in this regard as could be. You had to make all of those ridiculous motions with your wrist just to throw basic pitches, and then you had to be a "joystick jockey" who could both time when the bar was going to fill and predict when to press the button for the bar to suddenly stop in a reasonable place. Pitching well in the game had little to do with your baseball skill. It was all about your ability to use the controller.

The pitching in Wii Sports was far more rewarding and reasonable to control than in the Bigs.

Batting was about the same. Instead of being able to use the Wii-mote as a bat (as we saw in Wii Sports baseball), you had that ridiculous system based on pressing a button slightly ahead of when the batter was supposed to swing. Again - it was all controller and no baseball.

This is why I am really looking forward to Power Pros. For me, I bought a Wii because I want to use the Wii-mote in interesting and innovative ways. In Power Pros, we will be able to hit and pitch in the exhibition games and home run derbys using the Wii-mote in ways that sound pretty similar to what we did in Wii Sports Baseball. When I played the Bigs on the Wii, it didn't feel the slightest bit like I was playing baseball. I might as well have been playing a fighting game with all of the button pressing and combinations of arcade moves with the controller that you needed to play that game.

Only a few more days til I can "swing a bat" with the Wii-mote in Power Pros....

I thought The Bigs is a very solid game for what it's made to do... I too disliked it on the Wii though. With anything gimmicky like the Wii-mote you're going to see some games using it just because they have it. Batting with the Wii-mote? Great for arcade style just time this swing stuff! Contorting my arm while applying tension to top and bottom of the remote so I can throw a sinker or something? Not great. I'm definitely going to be using the Cube controller backward compatibility with this Power Pros game too since it just feels weird to have two free-moving objects split between my hands.

Re: Official MLB Power Pros thread!

These are all the pitching abilities that are in that post:

            Doctor K
            Light Ball
            Bullpen Blows Lead
            Escape Pitch
            Mistake Pitch
            Clutch Pitch
            Comebacker Reflexes
            Poker Face
            Release
            Winning Pitcher
            Hot Head
            Intimidator

A few seem obvious but I don't understand a couple. "Bullpen blows lead" seems like an odd one. Does that mean this pitcher being in the game reduces the effectiveness of pitchers after him? Weird. I don't know what's up with "poker face" or "release" either? Maybe Oswalt handles pressure better or something?

            Batting:

            Average Hitter
            Change Maker
            Infield Hit
            Slap Hitter
            Power Hitter
            Intimidation
            Game Ender
            Pull Hitter
            Three Hit Batter
            Patient Batter
            Free Swinger
            Grand Slam Hitter
            Gold Glover
            Bare Hand Catch
            Bunt Master
            Opposite Field Power

It sounds like this game does some very cool things. Depending on how much these abilities matter it should make stars play like very different players. It's too bad that this game hasn't had more press because it seems like it's pretty neat. Flawed, but very cool.

I think I'm just gonna wait a little bit and see your guys' impressions before I buy it. I realized that I don't really have 40 bucks to spend at this point, and while I'm dying for this game, the uncertainties are kind of scaring me.

I would get it if it had full wimote support when playing just like wiisports. Looks like there is no up and down of the bat when using the wimote and instead it's just timing.

Quick question: Will there be day and night games? Because in the videos and screenshots I only see day games.

Also, any more of an explanation of how the wii remote will work with batting? Is it fully functional like in Wii Sports?

Doesn't look like it. The wii remote for batting is just a swing not and up/down. I haven't played wii sports in a while but I believe you could swing up down etc..

I think I saw that the Wii-mote only is for HR derby and exhibition games. Otherwise the game seems to use controls that would otherwise work with just a Gamecube controller.
