I spent some time in batting pratcie last night to try and find the best settings for me.
Auto Lock at 5 is way too easy. The sweet spot kinda snaps to the ball if you are close enough, but at 5 it's just too easy. Plus, it seems like the hit variety is worse since it increases your contact so much. I am in no way ready for full manual. I think for now I'm going to have to learn on Normal.
Since I was just in practice mode, I tried to watch how the bat and ball react to each other. It's easier in batting practice to see this because the camera doesn't switch to the fielding view. The physics here are incredible. If I make contact with the top of the barrel it either pops up or fouls back. If you get jammed, you can hear a different sound off the bat, and the hit is weaker than if you make contact further up the barrel. Swing late and it goes opposite field, early and you pull the ball.
Aside from showing a cursor, this is the perfect hitting interface for me. The only one I can recall being even close to this good was ESPN 2k4.
Oh, there is one potential negative. has anyone been able to hit HRs without the Big Swing? All of my homers have come when using the Big Swing.
