Re: Official MLB Power Pros thread!

I spent some time in batting pratcie last night to try and find the best settings for me.

Auto Lock at 5 is way too easy. The sweet spot kinda snaps to the ball if you are close enough, but at 5 it's just too easy. Plus, it seems like the hit variety is worse since it increases your contact so much. I am in no way ready for full manual. I think for now I'm going to have to learn on Normal.

Since I was just in practice mode, I tried to watch how the bat and ball react to each other. It's easier in batting practice to see this because the camera doesn't switch to the fielding view. The physics here are incredible. If I make contact with the top of the barrel it either pops up or fouls back. If you get jammed, you can hear a different sound off the bat, and the hit is weaker than if you make contact further up the barrel. Swing late and it goes opposite field, early and you pull the ball.

Aside from showing a cursor, this is the perfect hitting interface for me. The only one I can recall being even close to this good was ESPN 2k4.

Oh, there is one potential negative. has anyone been able to hit HRs without the Big Swing? All of my homers have come when using the Big Swing.

It's possible but really really difficult. You need the right power hitter, the right pitch, the right pitch location, exact timing, and need to hit the ball exactly in the sweet spot. I've rarely seen it happen in the year's I've played this series (at least without playing with the super-easy batting setting that makes the entire bat a sweet spot).

Technically, you can always edit an existing player, like one of the AAA no-names.

True, but I was planning on making alot of rookies, I dont think there are enough no-names for all of that.

I hit one out to right field in my second game with Carlos Beltran using just the regular contact swing. I really think it was just new beginner dumb luck though.

Has anyone been able to find anything resembling a review for this game yet? I'm interested to see what angle the reviewers take, although it probably won't do the game justice.

One of the guys on the sportsgamer blog has it, and so far that's about the closest thing I could find (although it's really no different from somebody posting here...)

Man, I just spent the whole morning using "arrange" to get all the transactions down for all the teams. it was tough. You have to move one player from one team to another, and then go back and remove that player from the original team. It was very time consuming, but it's done. Now I just have to create the missing players and set the lineups and rotations for each team.
PS: I also have to unlock the ability to use an arranged team in season mode....100,000 points

So when you are done with all the transactions, can you only use one team in the season mode, or all of them?

Hehehe, yeah I saw the blog posts. Comparing the play-by-play announcer to Joe Buck and the Fox broadcasters got a chuckle out of me...
Glen says he hates the play by play, but seriously it reminds me of Joe Buck. IT’S A SINGLE TO LEFT!!! NOW THE ORIOLES WILL TRY TO TAKE THE LEAD!!! OH MY GOD! LET ME PLEASURE MYSELF! See, just like real Fox broadcasters!

There's a chance you could replace multiple teams with arrange ones, considering there's a confirmation screen showing the current league setup during the beginning setup screens. That might be due to the Expansion Team mode, but I'm hopeful for multiple arrange teams.

What's the fastest way to earn money? HR derby?

Oh, you can do a whole league of Arrange teams that will replace the original one's once you have changed all the rosters to you're liking, I just don't know if you can control all of them once the season starts.

Fastest way I have found is playing exhibition- 2000 points, win or lose

Ah, that's what you meant. Yeah, pretty sure it's only 1 team. I wonder how much money you earn for completing Success Mode, I'm sure it'll be a good amount.

                                Two questions:

                                1) I haven't gotten into Season mode yet, and unfortunately I'm going home today so I can't play again for another four days or so. Anyway, is there a multiple-season mode (franchise)?

                                2) Is there a way to save your Style options? (I hate having to change the batting camera to Wide every freakin' time!)
