A big fan of High Heat (gameplay). That said, I just can't play it much. It's hard to get through an entire game. Why? It has no personality (IMO), it's stale and it needed a shot of adrenaline and 3DO didn't give it that this year. It took a step forward in animations, but a big step backwards in every other category (except gameplay). It needs a facelift badly.

I have found my comfort zone with ASB, EASY batting, AUTO FIELD and am enjoying the realism and all the extra goodies that come with the game. Perhaps when I get better I'll change my batting/hitting options, but right now I love it, especially the generated pitch count.

Actually a baseball reaches home plate in under 1 second. But trying to put a cursor on the ball and hitting a button in that amount of time, especially when transposed on a flat tv screen is completely different than using muscle memory to put the bat on a ball in the real world. Comparing video game pitch speeds to real life makes no sense and is like comparing apples to refrigerators.

Actually a baseball reaches home plate in under 1 second. But trying to put a cursor on the ball and hitting a button in that amount of time, especially when transposed on a flat tv screen is completely different than using muscle memory to put the bat on a ball in the real world. One big advantage that ASB does have that I think should be mandatory on all sports games, is in game saves. For me thats a huge addition, I hope that becomes a trend in the industry.

Dick expressed my feelings better than I could have myself.

And I play the same way as jim (a fellow "old man"...I've read his posts on another board, though he has me by a couple of years).

I used to be HH only, but now I'm an ASB convert. Hitting was easy for me in HH (on the PC), but difficult in ASB. HH is ok to play if I just was to play a mindless game, but as Dick pointed out...if you want an engrossing game of baseball that forces you to concentrate, then ASB is the way to go.

I've had more fun playing ASB than I've had playing any baseball game in a long, long time. Hits, runs, and wins don't come easy. I have to work for everything. But when I win....man, the feeling is great. I feel like I've actually earned and accomplished something. I could never say this about High Heat.

I still think Baseball Pro 98 kills every baseball game ever invented.

Like another poster said, HH does need some atmospere. Its so stale in the sound department.

I almost didn't get HH because of this, glad I did. With an 8 month old, a full time job, and a honey do list longer than Peter Norths pecker, late night gaming is my thing, and nothing is more annoying that dozing off in front of the TV playing.
