That fastball game is pretty fun ... I had some mp3's going and other stuff, was swing at like .5 secs. I was like what the hell. Closed out of some stuff, usually get .18s, I had a .158

          click and guess = .0010

Also, I totally disagree about youbeing able to "setup" the batters in ASB to swing at bad pitches. It's extremely rare for them to do that, setting up the batter doesn't have any effect at all from what I have seen.

I'm not so sure of that. I find there definitely is a "batter setup" logic. For example, if i throw a couple of balls outside, then rip one in tight, 9 times out of 10 the computer will either not swing at it, or will swing and miss. I've encountered a lot of situations like that where mixing it up can really fool the computer. It's not perfect, just like it isn't in real baseball, but i truly believe this pitcher/batter confrontation in this game is qiute deep.

I agree. Makes all the difference in the world if you can get ahead of the hitter..I'm just not sure some of these guys have the patience that it takes to work hitters in this game. I can only speak for myself, playing on Allstar level with exaggerated pitching and easy batting, and pitching and hitting aids turned on. Just finished a game against the Phillies, for example, where Morris had 9 strikeouts and Padilla had 7. Both had two walks. I'd say that 3 of Morris' 9 strikeouts were looking, 6 were swinging strikeouts, with at least 2-3 of those having pitches outside the zone for strike three. That's good enough for me.

                  Dick,
In getting back to what u last said about the 3d cursor.....your argument where u said some hitter have a natural upercut to thier swing made sense, but what about when you aim the cursor left or right? Also the problem for me is that u do all this BEFORE you see where the pitch is. You can pull a high and outside fastball down the leftfield line if u tilt the cursor correctly, but that would never happen in real life. It should all depend on picking the right pitch and going with it. I think it's weird that you walk up to the plate and the have to decide where to aim your cursor..ALL BEFORE U SEE THE PITCH. This is why I choose the traditional cursor. But the problem with the traditional cursor is it brings way too many fly balls. Sure I could use the 3D cursor and aim it down, but that's not realistic. I do however LOVE the challenge in hitting that ASB gives you. It's almost too hard (no way to change pitch speeds!!!???). I was 2 hit by Al Leiter last night!!! My other main gripe with ASB is the pitching model. It's so boring for me to just pick a spot and push. You hardly ever have to worry about throwing a meatball over the heart of the plate, because the control is too spot on. In HighHeat you sometimes HAVE to throw a strike and you pray that it wont be a meatball That's real pitching. You can go an entire game in ASB with almost any pitcher and hit corners all day. Where's the fun in that? I wish ASB04 had HH's pitching system (as an option), HH's fielding control, and HH's baserunning AI. Then you would have a great game!

                      Re: ASB04 vs HH04 (Ps2)

Jack, I can understand your gripes in certain areas of ASB, however you have to realize that some realism will always be sacrificed for playabilty on a console, which is the case with the aiming of the 3D cursor BEFORE the pitch. There simply would really be no other way to incorporate this in a REAL TIME ( during the pitch ) mode because the user just will not have enough time to make all these adjustments as the pitch is coming across the plate. You still have freedom to tilt your cursor while the pitch is traveling but it's simply not possible to do effectively. So, the trade off in realism vs playablity is sacrificed for the good of the game in this situation. It really doesnt bother me because the tilting of the cursor isnt the final say in where the ball will ultimately go, it's more or less used for an extra added emphasis in certain situations such as going to bat with the intention of trying to hit a sacrifice fly....or trying to pound one in the dirt toward the right side to advance a runner over to 3rd...ect. It still requires the proper execution to pull off tho....So I enjoy the added extra control of the 3d cursor. If you dont find it realistic, you simply can switch to the 2D or other batting modes which also give great results.....This is another one of ASB's biggest strengths, ....the game gives you variety and choices to play the game thats best for YOU whereas HH tells you, your gonna play it OUR way only.

Also, something that I feel ASB does much better than HH is the way it distinguishes the differences in DEFENSIVE RATINGS and their skills out on the field. In ASB players have ratings for not only speed, but RANGE and GLOVE which help create more diversity in the style of defensive play each of the player's will demonstrate. So you can theoretically have a speedy outfielder with bad range and a mediocre glove give you problems in the outfield...A good example of this is someone like Roger Cedeno.

                              Dick,
I LOVE the fact that ASB gives you all these choices when batting. If HH would give folks a cursor option, I'm sure it would improve sales of that game. I almost guarantees u will find some way to hit that u like. Now if u can come up with a way to make pitching more interesting, we might have something here. I have been turning vibration off and the pitching cursor off and I basically move the left analog around before the pitch. This keeps me from hitting corners too precisley, which is what happens when I can see the cursor.
Unfortunately, I can still go all game without throwing any meatballs......which isn't realistic to me.
