    Re: ASB04 vs HH04 (Ps2)

BKRich......yes Im aware of HH having Fielding % ratings, speed and range in their players but for some reason, I just dont see the distinctly subtle differences when you put a fielder like Darrin Erdsat in the OF over lets say Roger Cedeno. The game has them both track down flyballs and cover ground pretty equally based on their speed. And the extremely effective way you can dive in HH makes almost any basic ranged fielder become a golden glove wonder like Ozzie Smith.
In ASB, Im finding a more subtle variety in defensive Range as well as their speed in the field which seems to really add to more differnces in their style of defensive play.

Dick I agree to a point. But I definitely see a difference in defense in HH. Also diving is not as easy this year, I lot of my dive attempts with crappier OF's ( I am the Padres) result in dropped balls or balls kicked away.

The difference is not as defined thats for sure.

I played ASB probably for at least 6 hours this weekend trying to like it. But the Batter/Pitcher interface kills it for me in the end. Zone and easy hitting results in good numbers but the variety of hit types is lacking when compared to the cursor hitting. I was never a big fan of cursor hitting systems to begin with, but the 3d and 2d cursors aren't a huge challenge once you figure out whats going on, and I end up hitting way too many gappers for 2b's. Once I went to the cursor system I became a doubles hitting machine.

ASB does so many things right, but their batter/pitcher interface is atrocious (for me at least) and that kills the game for me.

            Re: ASB04 vs HH04 (Ps2)

BK, I can appreciate what you said and strangely, I find ASB's Batter/Pitcher interface to be quite compelling and realistic for me and really get a satisfying sensation when I make solid contact and follow the flight of the ball into the field. Luckily, I am still challenged by the 2D/3D cursor system in the game and will find that some games I can really 'see' the ball well and make great contact and then other games a hot pitcher will come in and frustrate me.

HH has always been a fun game for me but I never was extremely challenged by the batter/pitcher interface in the game. I just couldnt get immersed in the exaggerated ball physics of pitches. And I always felt that the pitches seemed to follow a scripted ball path that after a while you would get used to seeing over the course of the game. Balls didnt have that infinite feel of placement around the plate. and As a pitcher tired, you would basically see his pitch locations vary but I didnt get the sensation that his pitches were starting to loose some of the sharpness and effectiveness of their breaks...At least not in the satisfying way you see a pitcher's stuff start to go flat in ASB. This year's HH is their best version due to their revamped graphics engine and subtle gameplay tweaks but I still cant get totally into the game and the horrible revamped console style interface and lack of franchise depth really kills it for me....

I guess we seem to differ on what we enjoy...It's a good thing that this year there are so many games to choose from. Who knows, perhaps once I get my hands on WSB or even MVP, I may even find something more absorbing and truer to the sport than either of these 2.

Well put Dick. Thats why it's nice to have so many titles out, you can always find one that meets your gaming needs.

I have to admit, I am really looking forward to giving WSB and MVP a try. Wednesday can't get here soon enough..
