    There is a lineup screen that shows the breakdown of starters, middle, setup and closer.

    Also, look at a players ratings - the 3 attributes with the circle and the triangle are their compatibility in each role: in order they are Starting, Relieving, Closing

    Double circle = Best
    Circle = Good
    Triangle = Neutral
    Minus = Not suitable

      But how do you tell if the pitcher is a starter or reliever. For example when my starter is getting tired and I want to bring in a reliever, how do I in fact know I am bringing in reliever and not another starter.

        You can view the pitchers ratings during a game. Go into pause menu then find the screen where it show all your pitchers. You'll see the ratings on the right, now scroll over with R2 or whatever so you can see all 5-6 pages of their ratings. I think it's the 3rd page which has the circle, triangle etc I mentioned in the last post which designates their roll.

        It would be nice if they had a depth chart type view, but it only takes a second to find the info you need.

        Also, just an FYI - it's common for some JPN pitchers to throw 130 pitches in a game, so if they've thrown 110 pitches but have some fatigue left it's normal.

            vs L: B 77

              Another way to know is that once you select a starter from rotation and begin a game; you can only access pitchers in your bullpen and usually only a rotation pitcher that has yet to start (like 5th man in rotation) will be available.

              This pitcher will be the first from the top if he is righty or going down your pen, he will be the first lefty available.

              A starter that has been used will not be available for 3 days (games).

              Hope this helps (and makes sense...lol)

                My, Oh My, Oh My!!!......FINNALY!!!! CYPHRE HAS BEEN ABLE TO PLAY.......PYS 2011........5 minutes into the game and.......WOW!!!......I really thought Konami could do no more to this game play/engine.......THEY ARE GODS OF BASEBALL VIDEOGAMES......did they add much?....no......did they create any new game changing modes?....no.....did they implement any new blockbuster features?......no..........but what they did was take all the features and modes in the game (and it's gameplay method) and polished a near perfect game into.....well, PERFECTION!

                Keep in mind that this games' engine has been the core of Konami's baseball games since 2002......A DECADE......for 10 years Konami has been able to add...tweak...substract....implement....change.... ...whatever you want to call it....and continue keeping it's fan base (including myself) coming back for more.....and this year the game flows just perfect.....I cannot think of 1 sports game that has been able to successfully run on basically the same engine that long. Even Madden has been revamped from time to time (or tried to).

                For those of you hesitating to play this game......there is really NO EXCUSE if you have the system and money.

                For those unfortunate that have never had the oppotunity to play it for one reason or another......sorry...about your damn luck.

                        Thinking of buying this. Knowing exactly zero Japanese would I be able to use www.spiritstranslation.com/ and play and figure out a franchise/dynasty?

                        thanks

                          without a shadow of a doubt......first of the gameplay is fairly easy to figure out if you are familiar with other baseball games........and Muka (and friends) have gone above and beyond with that translation website....they've made it so easy for newcomers that a person that can't read would be able to follow the instructions and play any mode......now that's ridiculously easy....lol

                          Seriously though......Muka's website is the most complete and easy to help you get into the PYS series....there's even some support forums just for this series

                            I will admit that it seemed a bit daunting at first but once i put my mind to it and started reading the at the translation site it came along in no time and was well worth the effort. Best baseball game i have ever played!
