This year It looks like I will be using the Show with Manage Only Mode [a first!] since it plays out so nicely and is great to look at.

2k has been off my radar since I bought my PS3 in 08. Since then I've also been a first day The Show buyer (with the exception of this year), but after reading some of the stuff about franchise in this thread, I may have to pick up 2k instead of The Show this year. It just seems like 2k's franchise has a lot of the stuff that caused me to hold out on The Show this year. I'll definitely do some more research before making a final decision, however I'm very intrigued by what I'm reading.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the things that caused you to hold out on The Show this year, and that 2k's franchise has?

I just bought 2k12 yesterday, I got The Show on release day. So at some point, once I get more 2k12 time in, I'll have something to add to the conversation as a whole. But I was just kinda curious about your reasons, see how they compare to why I decided to get 2k12.
You do what you want in your association, don't let others ruin the fun. Just because other people say it's cheap doesn't mean you have to let it affect your association, just have fun - Evan_OS

My gripes with The Show are due in large part to one thing.... stats. Career stats has been the main item on my wishlist for years now and it's almost a blood issue for me at this point. With that said, I have no doubt that it's a really great game and I actually intended on buying it at some point. I'm just holding a little mini-protest and waiting until the game drops to $40 before I get it (like it really matters, I know). :o

Another thing with The Show is franchise just doesn't hold my interest that much anymore. It honestly, hasn't changed that much over the past few years, not that that's a bad thing. Last year I played 11 every day for a month solid, then I just lost all motivation to play it and ended up selling it before June. I just had the feeling of been there, done that.

What made me consider 2k is this thread actually. I really haven't kept up with 2k at all since I've been buying The Show. But, once I read econoodle's 7 hitstreak13's posts about rehab assignments, chronic injures, stats, etc. I'm now interested in seeing what 2k has to offer.

I know that I definitely want to get one of them. I just haven't decided if I want to stay with old faithful or see if the grass is a little greener on the other side of the pasture.

The stats on 2k12 are unbelievable. It's like you play a game, then you go and visit espn.com, yahoo.com, mlb.com and pro baseball reference when you go into the mlb.com link.

Want to know when a player has ever been injured, check is his player page. It logs his injury history, awards history everything!!!

Cam Maybin hit 3 triples for me last game, yep headline time, Padres record for triples in a game.

I simulate pitching, so I want to know how good my defenders are and errors don't always tell the whole story. I'll just go into the sort-able league-wide sabremetrics and sort position by position my range factor. Ohh, look at that my COF can't cover their shadow.

Hmmm, who's the best rookie? I'll just check the rookie report. Hmm, how are MLB's top 100 prospects doing, hold on, let me cycle through the 100 top prospects list and a snap shot of what level they are on and their stats.

The information on the game is through the roof.

Imagine when you start franchise you open a baseball encyclopedia, and each game of your franchise adds to it.

Man, I must admit that sounds awesome. I think that I'm going to give 2k a go. I've read a few threads, but how would you guys compare things like 2k's trade logic and league stats to the Show? Also, does CPU controlled teams move players up/down based on performance rather than injury only?

trade logic in the Show is wonky.
wayyy too many trades as well.
2k might even be considered to have too few trades.
personally, i'd rather have a smaller amount of trades being made then a bunch, with too many head scratchers.
in 2k you will not see big papi get traded to the mets, like i saw.

league leader stats are decent for both.
                            again subjective.
I personally like seeing a guy like Pujols not hit between 3-5 the same amount of homers every year.

heres some threads on sim stats for 2k in franchise and a trade discussion on the show forums.

                            http://www.operationsports.com/forum...logic-etc.html

edit: i see you said you checked some threads so i am sure you saw the ones posted, i'll give my thoughts in a bit on those two.

there were 9 trades that happened in that test franchise i am running in 2k.

a second sim saw 10 trades, with som really nice ones
including a deadline deal of Kendry Morales and Mark trumbo going from the angels to the braves in exchange for Johnny venters and kris medlen

also it was mentioned about player health history.
that was in 2k11 but this year i checked, arod got hurt two times, but i only showed the latest injury in the player card.

Man, I dug into franchise for the first time tonight and must say I am impressed. It doesn't have the financials, marketing, etc. of the other game, but its solid in its own right. It is very very deep in regards to stats and tracking. I didn't even realize that each team has "record holders" for numerous categories (dont remember if it was in last year).

If you can get over the graphics, you will be fine. I know rehab assignments and chronic injuries were in last year, but I'm excited to see how they work this year.

                              And I fogot about this:

Each player has a rating for each position. This is huge, huge, huge. In year 3 of simming, I had a guy with these ratings:

                              1B: 20
                              2B: 60
                              SS: 55
                              3B: 60
                              LF: 75
                              CF: 70
                              RF: 75

Not great, but versatile indeed. A definite must to have as he can pinch hit, defensive sub (has decent speed), and double switch.
                              Angels= 2025 World Series Champions!!

On 2k with some brief analysis there are too few trades, and I think prospects prospect a bit slowly. It's probably actually appropriate because people aren't 90s very often until their mid-late 20s. Thankfully I have an editor.
