    Re: Manage only Mode Thread

    Great thread Rumorman..

I really hope they turn up the offense for CPU vs CPU and manage mode games.. They have to be aware of it. Many people have commented on it... We also need more Walks...

I hope this thread stays near the top and more manage mode folks join in..

If nothing else, once the game is out, maybe we can put all are suggestions together and work it out..

Last year I edited pitchers, and OF range and speed hoping, plus many other factors in hope that slowing them down might let a few fly balls get past them.. It worked a little, But if some one could make a global editor that let you change all ratings like DangerZ had for HH... We could make the game do anything. Actually i think I spent far more time editing than playing..

Or if they would add a simple slider that let you increase or decrease offensive production and K vs Walks.. Think of what that small addition would do.. it would be almost a perfect game.

Well, there are some sliders in this years game, so maybe it will be just a matter of adjusting them, and not every player !!

I'm really on the fence right now. Like I mentioned in one of the other manage only threads, I played some of ASB 2004 recently, and remembered why I tired of it last season. The low batting averages were just brutal. If I could have my team batting .250 or so , I could live with it , but .176 , after 8 games? I tried strict manage only, cpu vs. cpu........any mode I could try and couldn't get more offense regardless of what I tried. If they "juice up" the offense this year, there's no question that with the absolutely wonderfully deep franchise mode, with all the suttle, yet significant offseason (and in season) managerial decisions and front office decisions, this game would be the game to get. I'm intrigued by MVP as well. The apparent depth of the franchise mode, especially the minor league system, has piqued my interest. I'm looking forward to a response from the beta impressions thread concerning manage only mode. (We were promised a response, hope we get one). That would go a ways to make me feel better about ASB 2005, when it comes to manage mode realism.

                  Re: Manage only Mode Thread

Well, if Acclaim bothered to put the mode in their game (which nobody else did) then they have to know there is a market out there for that type of player, we know their developers read these boards where there have been posts about MO mode, and there has been a focus on on the field gameplay improvements.....I'm hoping that translates into a more consistant, realistic statistical balance than last year.

Just pointless hoping really, until we get some information from the Beta or the actual game release.

I hadn't heard about the sliders in this year's version either - very encouraging.

                        Yea Rumorman,

I too decided to set up my unfinished season of ASB 2004, and it didn't take me long to remember why I quit playing. 14 innings until I won a 2 to 1 game. I just don't understand how such a great game can have such a shortcoming.

It seems to me, if a they could focus on getting the CPU vs. CPU to play realistic baseball, the rest of the game would automatically fall in place. That’s the heart of the system, make it run right and there would be very little fine-tuning.

Acclaim has to be aware of this problem. Many of us have screamed about it over and over, But from reading most of Steve's post, I'm not getting the impression that they fixed it.. Maybe just a little. He said even after simming most of the scores were 5 to 3... he said there were very few blowouts and some low scoring games of 3 to 1.. Also he mentioned that they ave. about 2 walks per game. I believe he said he never seen a team get over 9 hits.

This just isn't good news as far as I am concerned.. But as Gado said, All we can do is hope.

Last night I played about 15 games of HH2k3 in our league. As far as manage mode goes, I don't think their will ever be a game that compares to it. It is amazing just to watch the CPU vs. CPU games. You will see a 2 to 1 thriller and then the next game might be 12 to 3, The one pitch mode is incredible, you can see 1 to 10 walks a game depending on the pitchers. I have seen teams shell out 25 hit's in a blow out and then not get 4 hits in the next game.

The realism and stats from the game are amazing and it's all because they made CPU vs. CPU games fundamentally sound and then let you adjust from there. ( Also a lot of credit goes to DangerZ who’s Global editor let you edit and adjust everything possible)

It seems as though every year Game developers keep taking away the intelligence factor or the thinking mans part of the games. Young developers are not interested in that, they just want to mash buttons. It's strange, It's even the same way in the motion picture industry. Movies used to require something called dialog and acting... now it's just all action chase scenes and blow me up stuff. It almost insults your intelligence.. but that's what the young generation wants.

The market says players of our style the minority, the young console players want fast action games, sells wouldn't benefit from manage mode type of game.

I can tell you this, That is wrong, HH was almost a cult type of manage mode players. I believe if a company developed a game that had a complete manage mode type of play and the video graphics.. If the game was fundamentally sound and played realistic baseball.. I think people would come out of the woodwork to get it.

The reason the market isn't there is because that type of game isn't there and everyone knows it. I personally would pay 100 dollars for a game like that. If they just added an update every year.

Anyway, I will try ASB this year, and hope for the very best, But I will also try MVP, but only for the computer.. Hopefully it will offer some different choices that the console model doesn’t offer. From what I have read, ESPN does not offer any type of manage mode or even a cpu vs cpu type of game. That doesn’t make sense to me at all. I must have miss-read something.

And if worse comes to worse, I will continue to play and enjoy HH2k3 until something comes along that is better. And that may never happen.

When I do something right, No one ever remembers.
When I do something wrong, No one ever forgets.!

Hope springs eternal. Someone on one of these threads mentioned playing in Rookie mode and allowing the cpu to control all of your players. Eureka! Offense Baby! I lost to Montreal 10-6, and am currently beating Cincinatti 5-3 in the 7th. (Reds have 10 hits) Now I had a ...........few.........relatively high scoring games before, but this has promise. The truth is out there guys, we just gotta find it.
