                  - EA Sports Pureswing system
                  - Big Play Control
                  - Franchise mode with team chemistry, club goals etc.
                  - Manager Mode
                  - Cooperstown collection
                  - The minors
                  - Pick you park - some stadium feature
                  - EA Sports nation - online PS2 play.

So what has ASB done above that of MVP.

Franchse - both state they have improved this area and it's pretty deep.
Gameplay - both say they have the most realistic and fun gameplay on the market
Stadium - ASB wins this year even though most of those stadiums are fantasy expansion ones. Anyway I don't know if you would call this a game seller
Online Play - Well just depends on what console you own. This is a game seller no doubt and if you have an Xbox and want online play MVP is not a choice.
Manager Mode - ASB has this is some fashion but MVP is marketing it.
Cooperstown Collection - ASB heavily marketed this last year (still has it this yet), this year it's MVP.

Other than online play and a fielder cam there's not much that ASB has done other the tweak. And tweaking isn't going to cause as much hype and overhauling. MVP had the overhaul thing going but it also has added some features we haven't seen before or have been greatly enhanced. Minors, I was never able to play as a minor team before MVP. The sim out/in feautre. I would compare this equally with ASB's fielder cam. It's not going to sell many games but it's a nice feature.

So it seems that all the hype is being generated because MVP has seen the biggest overhaul of all the baseball games this year and that has peaked a lot of interest. And ASB sure sounds like it's more of the same. That's not bad but it's not going to generate a lot of hype.

This isn't a debate on what game is better, no one knows that. This is a debate on hype which ultimately leads to game sales. EA Sports is hyping up their game. Acclaim has made it sound like it's more of the same and fans of ASB will be pleased. Will ASB fans were going to buy the game anyway what has ASB done compared with MVP that is getting people on the fence to buy their game?

I've tried to stay out of this one, but this here post almost made me choke on my midnight snack...

JROD YOU did the OS ASB review last season. ASB had a ton...a FREAKING TON of new features. Now, to be fair, you did go alot farther than most reviewers. You actually mentioned the new features. A whole sentence!

                  Props for that..

The rest of the review was why you hate icon batting, how this or that wasn't quite perfect blah, blah, blah... ripped the game to shreds. There were at least 9 or 10 completely unique, never-before-seen gameplay additions, not to mention a standard-setting franchise mode, but that didn't mean a hill of SH!T to you. You not only ripped it in in the review, you got on the board DAILY and consistently re-ripped it.

Now all of a sudden because MVP has a few nice additions (very nice, I may add) your stance is that the innovation is why its so great? Pardon me as I laugh hysterically at your hypocrisy...

                  Good one JROD...

The truth is that ASB was JUST. TOO. HARD. for alot of people.

If a game has poor graphics, you don't get angry.

if the franchise is underwhelming you don't get angry.

if the rosters aren't perfect or the animations are a little off you arent THAT angry.

But when a game has you feeling frustrated and inept because of the difficulty, when you're ready too throw your controller across the room. Thats anger. That causes you to not only dislike a game, but to DESPISE a game. You DESPISE this game, and judge it accordingly. Simple fact. Please save the "they only tweaked it, ummmm thats why I don't like it" spiel, and don't mince words..Your review, though well-written, basically said that you do not like All-Star Baseball. The sad part is, you seem like an intelligent, avid basball gamer. ASB is MADE for guys like you. Had flaws? Hell yeah. Still the most realistic? Hell yeah. Go figure.

And on another note, 99.9% of the people who "mastered" ASB were not playing it at its peak difficulty. Exxagerated pitches were a crutch, as was the zone hitting. No points for getting good w/ either feature. Unless you mastered the game with NORMAL pitching, icon hitting, no strike-zone, and on All-Star...You didn't play the game at its hardest, and I only remember ONE guy on these forums that said he mastered it playing like that.

                  <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Do you have a calander. That was last year. The debate centers on why MVP is going all the attention.

You need to be reminded that ASB last year had all the hype. It had the most features and features we haven't seen before in baseball games. ASB was the MVP of this year.

You seem to get upset for me not listing it's features. I try to stay away from that in my reviews simply because gamers have heard the press releases and saw the fact sheets and they pretty much have played the game. Plus there was a whole section of features. If I were to write a review will all of the features of a game it would be 20 pages long.

ASB has not added enough new feautures compared with last year's game. Other than a fielder cam, tweaked gameplay, some new stadiums and old-tiemrs what have the added that is above and beyond of what they had last year.

HMS, you are either stupid or blind. The post was about why MVP is getting all the attention. It's because it has added the most things compared with last year's version. In terms of features MVP and ASB is very similar but in terms of the games from last year MVP has seen the most change and that brings about hype.

But you are mad because ASB was graded so lowly. Hell all the games were bad last year. I can't name one that I wanted to play longer than a month. And by the time the all-star game came around I had no baseball games in my collection.

So how about you list for me the changes from ASB 04 to 05 and then list the changes for MVP 03 to 04. I think you will see why there is so much hype.

This is all about hype and not the quality of the baseball game. Last year's ASB wasn't that good and here's why. And here's why avid baseball gamer shouldn't like ASB. The cursor system isn't real baseball. It was a great feature on the Saturn, SNES and PS1. But our consoles have evolved from that but the batting system hasn't. MVP's model isn't the best in the world. Either is HH but they are closer to baseball than a cursor system.

And real baseball fanatics while they might like the cursor system can not say that ASB baseball was a great game of baseball. It had a lot of new features most of which were held back because the interface was probably one of the worst I've seen in a long time. But it had too many flaws in baseball fundamentals to count. I haven't played in a long time so I don't really know.

Lastly was that playing ASB wasn't fun after a while. It's much the same way that I can Inside Drive plays the best basketball out of all the other titles. Much the same way that ASB was superior to WSB, MVP or MLB last year. Yet the game was a lot like work. It took 40 mins for a game. While that doens't bother some if you are in a blowout and you have 4 more innings to go, you just wanted the game to be over. In HH because of the quick game times, you didn't feel like it was work in the end.

But that's a past. ASB could see some real improvments on the field. I haven't played the new game so I don't know. What I do know is that this year's MVP is like last year's ASB they added a lot of new stuff we haven't seen from previous versions. And that's why MVP is seeing a lot of hype.

But for all of those that won't to read more in it than that, where does that say ASB '05 is a bad game or that I think it will be a bad game. It just can't compete with new features they added compared with last year's version of ASB and MVP's features EA sports has added compared with it's previous version.

I just can't get past how MVP has every HR disappear in midair directly over the wall, and then sets off fireworks (at every stadium - including Wrigley). The player models are much better than the bobbleheads from last year, but they still look like cartoons.

But that's what game critics want. MVP is the Madden/SSX of baseball games, and ASB is the NFL2K/Amped of baseball games. Two different types of games. The question is what you want. That's all that matters in the end.

Now if ASB would just go to 720p and/or widescreen, I'd have nothing more to ask for from this series.
