It's pretty simple, if you are not buying ASB05, don't come into the ASB Forum. That really isn't that hard, is it?

While I can agree that BK's choice to post what he did (in a thread with the topic that it has) was curious, I don't believe that's what took this thread off track. The continuous interrogation (rather than just leaving it be) is what made this thread spiral out of control. But that's just my opinion.

I liked reading everyone's reasons for getting the game. And, just for the record, ASB is an option for me this year. I never said I wasn't getting it ... unless you're referring to BK's choice not to buy the game (at least when it first comes out).

I thought that's why Steve separated these boards to begin with. Nothing against bkrich, but the fact that it was an OS staff member who started it is what makes it the most ironic. Now, if it was Football or someone else from the MVP boards, then I could see but..

In any case, in response to the original post, I'm getting ASB because, for the past couple of years, it has been the game that most closely resembled the sport of baseball. And because no other game has gone to such great lengths to try and nail all of the nuances and small little details of the game. When EA was using "rocket trails" for balls hit in their Triple Play series, for instance, Acclaim was adding things like over the shoulder catches; umpire calls on check swings; passed balls and wild pitches; broken bats; offline throws; signature pitcher deliveries, batting stances and practice swings; working scoreboards; real time bullpens (where you see guys warming up as the game takes place around them); etc.

Now that EA has pulled the plug on TP and started to go the ASB realism route, I'm looking forward to giving MVP a try. And I'm definitely looking forward to MLB, maybe the most out of any game. But I'm also very much looking forward to what ASB has in store for us this year, especially since they have such a good base to be working from. They've never gone through a stretch where they were completely lost, like EA was with their TP series. ASB's makers seem like they know and appreciate the sport of baseball, and I really get the impression that they're trying to make the best looking and playing baseball game on the market. That's ultimately why I'm buying ASB, I guess.

Seems like one led to the other. When you get one MVP fan who has no plans to buy ASB coming into a thread on the ASB board (about praising the game) just to shoot it down, certainly that's inviting trouble.

Then it was exascerbated by more MVP fans coming in to stoke the embers - taking what BK was saying and twisting it into their own opinions - then agreeing (essentially with themselves).

The bottom line is that 90 percent of people who have no plans to buy ASB this year simply know very little about the 05 edition and are talking about problems with ASB04 or ASB03 (or, even worse, what so-and-so said on the boards about it last year). Which makes the trolling and arguing even more annoying.

Hmm ... Seems to me the only thing BK said was that he wasn't buying the game. Questionable given the topic? Yes. But, I didn't see him shoot it down, as you say ... at least until he started responding to the constant questions. And, I don't see BK so much as an MVP fan as he is disenchanted with ASB.

And as for agreeing with BK, that is certainly not what I was doing. I was applauding him for well articulated responses to your interrogation. He gave his reasons for not purchasing the game, which you requested over and over.

And finally, it's not unheard of for someone not to purchase a release because of issues they had with prior versions. That's exactly why I did not buy ASB 2004 ... I didn't like ASB 2003. I understand your point. You feel people should make informed decisions. I couldn't agree more. But why do you allow something so out of your control to affect you so?? I'm sure you'll love ASB, and that's all that really matters, right? (Rhetorical questions)

Good luck and have fun. If I buy ASB, maybe we can play a game online sometime.

While I can agree that BK's choice to post what he did (in a thread with the topic that it has) was curious, I don't believe that's what took this thread off track. The continuous interrogation (rather than just leaving it be) is what made this thread spiral out of control.
