I have hard time believing this...If what you say is in fact correct, how is it possible for them to release the game last year with all those lineup/stat/passed ball bugs? Thank god I decided to read the impression this year before buying it, well, I wont be buying it.Originally posted by basehead617
2. Over 100 people do nothing all day but test the game at Microsoft (once submitted) and at Take Two/VC (during development)- I know some of them. They do so in 24 hour shifts during crunch time before a game is released.

i don't really know a lot about the bugs you're talking about, but usually things that don't crash a game won't for sure hold up a release - so most companies try to fix as many as they can.Originally posted by HappyW@*!I have hard time believing this...If what you say is in fact correct, how is it possible for them to release the game last year with all those lineup/stat/passed ball bugs? All I was saying was if this widespread freezing was happening in Microsoft's approval testing the game wouldn't be on shelves now. So something else is going on.. that doesn't make the situation suck less, but anyway..Comment

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
No, I was not talking about the freeze. You say 100's of testers QA the product in 24 shifts. Everyone and their dog knows that last year the game was full of bugs. Example: AL pitchers batting in AL games. Not being able to modify lineups in franchise. 2 SS's in the game. Passed balls etc. I can go on and on.Originally posted by basehead617i don't really know a lot about the bugs you're talking about, but usually things that don't crash a game won't for sure hold up a release - so most companies try to fix as many as they can.

If in fact they did 24 hours around the clock testing, they should have caught all that problem before release, unless of course the testers were monkeys or something. At this point I kind of believe that some testers were monkeys or chimpanges.Comment

gotta love all these "the show" comparisons

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
Not every problem caught is fixed. There just isn't enough time in each game's cycle.. some have to slide. If they took 3 extra months to make the game and have a 1 in 200 people ever notice a bug, next year's game would suffer and people would say they're being ripped off in 2k7. There is a subset of people that would be happy with a very late but less buggy game, but it's a sliding scale. Sports are really the only games that have this problem this badly.. a lot of great games come out that took 2-3-4-5 years to make.Originally posted by HappyW@*!If in fact they did 24 hours around the clock testing, they should have caught all that problem before release, unless of course the testers were monkeys or something. all this is beside the point. i only claimed microsoft wouldnt let this game be released if it were freezing in testing and that there are a lot of testers on every game, including this one (and even if a dev company doesnt have many, MS sure as hell does when testing for approval!) - that doesn't mean all bugs found are fixed.Last edited by basehead617; 04-13-2006, 07:28 AM.Comment

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
So something simple as having correct lineup shouldnt be fixed? How can you release a baseball game where you can't modify the Line-up??? Whats the point of franchise???Originally posted by basehead617that doesn't mean all bugs found are fixed.Comment

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
i can't respond to that because i dont even know what you're talking about.. you're still talking about last year or old gen or what? do you mean rosters?Originally posted by HappyW@*!So something simple as having correct lineup shouldnt be fixed? Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
Why dont they take the final build of the game and run it on a few 360's that they bought in town. After all the burns are done and they have a retail ready disk? Also i do feel for you guys i had the same problem with my oblivion disk went through 4 of them before i got a good one the first 2 had a bad burn.I think it's a disk problem at the plant i really do.But i have no evidence other than my own experience.Comment

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
I've been trying to say.. once the 'gold' disc goes to manufacturing, its the manufacturer's job to make sure all the pressed copies match it and go to stores without problems. i dont know if that's what the problem is here or not but.. the last disc developers see is the one the plant gets to press, I think.Originally posted by yopisWhy dont they take the final build of the game and run it on a few 360's that they bought in town. After all the burns are done and they have a retail ready disk? Also i do feel for you guys i had the same problem with my oblivion disk went through 4 of them before i got a good one the first 2 had a bad burn.I think it's a disk problem at the plant i really do.But i have no evidence other than my own experience.Last edited by basehead617; 04-13-2006, 08:14 AM.Comment

I'll tell you what- if massive problems such as this lead developers to FINALLY do the logical thing and have games play from the hard drive and less from the CD Rom (i.e. the PC gaming model) then we are all better off. With such a model, there's very little that isn' patchable.
The trade off: you may only be able to install 12 to 15 games before having to delete the installations of ones you aren't playing so much (depending on hard drive size of your 360- or PS3) but I'll take a hot patchable game... FULLY patchable... over stuff that plays from a burnt-in DVD rom directly.
Then when the occasional problem like this comes along, its far less damaging to both the consumer and the developer.... and the retail outlets.Comment

Yes im still talking about last years games in reference to your notion that they do 24 hour testing with 100s of people. Im just saying I dont believe you because if they do in fact test this game, problems such as below should have never happebned!!! unless of course MOnkeys did the testingOriginally posted by basehead617i can't respond to that because i dont even know what you're talking about.. you're still talking about last year or old gen or what? do you mean rosters?

Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
I think things must be headed that way.. disastrous bugs are way easier to have in a game now with games being far far more complicated in every respect than the old days of a bug-free genesis or snes game or something.. too many combinations of things to test, too many things you can BREAK by fixing something else at the last second..Originally posted by quietcool72I'll tell you what- if massive problems such as this lead developers to FINALLY do the logical thing and have games play from the hard drive and less from the CD Rom (i.e. the PC gaming model) then we are all better off. Re: reality check for you all - PLEASE read this
You're far more well-versed with the bug issue in various games than I am. But imo I think you're talking about apples and oranges when you try to tie the freeze issue with past bug issues. All games have bugs of some sort or variation. I don't think 2K developers no more purposely released a game with a known freeze issue than I'd think the Madden developers released a football game knowing there was a quicksand glitch - I don't think they're trying to purposely screw consumers, as it's being hinted. I'm not going to speak on MLB, because I don't own it yet - but I've been reading this forum a ton since the game was released. I acknowledge that this freezing issue is huge - possibly huge enough to endanger 2K Sports itself, which would be a shame. But it's their product, their responsibility. But I'd be really curious to know the real extent of the problem - are 50% of people experiencing the freezes? 75%? 25%? 90%? It's really hard to tell because there are so many people that seem to have an agenda -- those of the "MLB 2K6 is the worst game ever created, buy The Show!" persuasion, or mad that MVP isn't around so they're being extremely vocal.Originally posted by quietcool72The thing is this: With 2K, this has become a habit. Whether its the past-ball problem last year, braindead 3rd basemen, defensive functions in their 2K5 football game not even working (QB Spy in 2K5, and hot-double teams the in 2K4), The College Hoops freezing on 360 nightmare, the Eastern Conference playoffs bug in NBA 2K5...
The list goes on and on.
I remember last year you and I were discussing the exclusivity mess in a Madden thread last year, and you said that 2K5 fans were being "babies" and that MVP fans would never react like 2K fans were to the exclusivity announcement. I said it then, and I think it's more prevelant now - people didn't react as vehemently initially because they didn't have their game (MVP) ripped from them in the same way it occurred with NFL 2K. I think now we're seeing it. Let's face it, most of this backlash is exclusivity-related - if there was no exclusivity, there would be a sort of natural "correction" and while people would complain, most would simply turn to The Show or MVP. I'm only throwing this out because I think it's interesting - people were laughed at for talking about boycotts, or petitions. Again, I don't have the game yet so I can't speak to it's issues - this is just all speculation on my part.HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period
