Fine, and that's called you disagreeing with the content of his article, not him being racist.

14TH is right in my book. Ready for another season of watching Yankee and Sawk Fans fill up the stadium then leave frowning.

Last year they were 21st in ERA and 24th in runs scored. MLB 2K8 has them listed as 23. Sounds exactly correct. And how BTW does that translate into them being a contender?

Did you guys get a pitching staff while I wasn't looking?
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
          Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?

I don't know about that. The D'Backs, Mets, Cubs and Phillies are much better IMO

I didn't read the whole thread, but I wanted to throw some comments out there.

I wouldn't worry too much about a guy's overall rating. It doesn't give a great idea of how he actually performs. I think Hanley Ramirez might be the best player in this game. He is definitely my favorite player to play with and the first one I put on my card team. And as a Yankee fan, who plays with the Yankees, Vernon Wells scares me more than anyone in the Jays lineup. And he catches EVERYTHING in CF. Frustrating.

The ratings are HEAVILY based on the last 3 years with some minor tweaks at the roster guy's whim. And since he's a sox fan, trust me, they didn't get the shaft. I hate facing Beckett. He's almost impossible to hit. Verlander too.

The OVERALL rating is just a rating derived by some formula that some dude came up with at some point. It's the ratings in each category that actually make a difference.

Also positions and lineups are based on the media's projections. I think they may even be taken right from each team's website. So if you think a guy's out of position, maybe that is the plan for the coming year? 2K doesn't pull this stuff out of thin air.

Glad that is cleared up. Would probably explain why the low rated Paul Byrd was vicious last year!

Well if that's any indication maybe V-Dub will have a great bounce back year in real life.

I kinda hope that Johnny Mac has a high defensive rating. The guy is a wizard at SS even if he's now firmly on the bench.

But Kush, here's my biggest question... In Franchise, are the player's overall ratings still the main factor in the trade logic? Like, can I still pull off horrible rip-off trades like trading Ray Durham for Jeff Francouer, just because they're both an 82 overall? Or does the game now factor in other things when trades are proposed (like age, current performance, a team's needs, etc.)?

This is my biggest concern about the game, and my biggest issue with last year's game. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sure you guys don't pull things out of thin air, but I can assure you that the one mistake I noticed (Freddy Sanchez) will be a 2B this year as well as he was last year.

Well I've said many times that I didn't work on franchise, so its tough for me to comment at all about it. I would think an 82 for 82 trade is probably still possible. It's gotta be difficult to come up with rock-solid trading AI. And if it were that good, think of how difficult it would be to pull any trades off? Kind of annoyed me a bit in NBA 2K7 how I had to work for 5 hours to make a viable trade. But I realize some people love that stuff.

I've been ripping off teams 1st round draft picks in Madden all year and I can't say it bugs me too much. The Jets need all the help they can get!

Allowing the benefit of the doubt, I'll try to walk with you on the individual rating being worth more than the overall - which has always been true in the 2K baseball series. I've spent the last 2 years generally signing rookies that had one outstanding (or the potential for one) over a higher rated "vanilla" player. It was easier for me to find a 5th outfielder in the 3rd round of the draft if he had 85 speed than to try to draft a guy who's just okay across the board and hope that I can turn him into something. The speed at least allowed for improved range in the field, and pinch running possibilities.

But, the single rating > overall rating doesn't hold up when players like Justin Verlander aren't even rated in the top 20. The single rating thought helps when a guy is underrated, but I'm looking at an overall list where guys are more often than not OVERRATED.

Let's look at 1B for just a moment:
Now just ignoring the general fact that I don't think anyone should be rated "perfect" in a sports game since the only way to achieve a 100 overall rating SHOULD be to be rated perfect in each individual category I'll continue:

Several of those top players see extensive (or exclusive time) at DH including Ortiz, Hafner, Giambi, and Thome. Of that group only Ortiz and Hafner should be considered truly elite offensive performers still since both Giambi and Thome are on the downside of their careers. So Thome and Giambi are both unable to handle fulltime position duty due to breaking down, OR plain out ineffectiveness defensively... their offense is also dwindling, yet they're both rated in the top 20 at their position? Thome is even rated higher than rising star and good defensive player Adrian Gonzalez. The only rating which should be significantly higher for Thome than Gonzalez should be power and if that's what earns him the higher rating that is truly wrong. As the writer pointed out, how can Giambi possibly be rated the same as Youkilis. At this point in Giambi's career, what assets does he bring to the game of baseball that Youklis doesn't and better? Experience?

Team overalls are also a bit of an issue... just taking a second to point out my favorite team, how are the Athletics expected to finish higher than the Texas Rangers when they're began fireselling their best players?
