That's the only Zone hitting that I'm aware of. It was apparent in Interplay and Inside Pitch as well (maybe also SlugFest).

MLB's lower difficulty levels used to be 4 zones:

The one game I never got a chance to play..wish I had.

See if you can pick it up for the PC. HH2004 still holds up somewhat well to this day.

Sorry I used the same numbers because it gets a little confusing when u jump to double digits....so if your a righty 1 should be inside corner...2 would be middle plate in....3 would be middle....4 would be middle plate away....and 5 would be outside corner...That would represent hitting better...and it should cover the hitters field reach/ability not the plate coverage specifically....for example #5 for Vlad Guerrero should be the black of the plate and then some of the lefties batters box...he swings at everything and hits it....Pujols can then in return turn on anything so his #1 should extend a lil off the plate inside....Then u everything else is proportional and each zone has a rating (hot/coldzone)....Also as a result each hot and cold zone will be smaller because there are more boxes....thus increasing the risk of a pitcher who misses his location even a bit...or rewarding the pitcher (punishing the hitter) if the pitcher can hammer the little window he has to work within a batters cold or neutral zones...

The only other thing I would want in there, that you touched on briefly, is ratings to also affect a hitter.

I know you mention that a guy prone to swings and misses would need to be perfect on zone location with the pitch. I'd like for that to go even deeper and say that the guy could still miss that pitch because he's just a bad hitter.

Obviously, that would either be an option or in higher difficulty levels.

So a guy like Eckstein could potentially make contact without using zone location but there will still those small instances that he swings and misses. Just not much. While a guy like Sexson could still swing up and in on that rising inside fastball and miss though your timing was perfect. Because, well, Sexson just swings and misses a lot.

This also opens the door for foul balls since you eliminate perfect location in a limiting 9-quadrant zone system.

I still like the 9-quadrant system but if you throw ratings in there so guys basically swing in 36 quadrants (4 quadrants within every quadrant) then I think we're golden. If it could happen in a 360 degree swing system then the better.

I see what your saying, but the way I see it is that the ratings effect the size of your contact zone which would just lead to more swings and misses period. you would swing and miss more with Sexson because it would be more difficult to get his cursor (contact zone) over the baseball. I know that certain guys seem to swing through pitches (basically just swing and miss) more than others, but they're obviously not swinging through the ball, so I think that the smaller contact area would give you the results you are talking about.

Maybe you could stretch or skew the circle to an oval if a guy is prone to swining and missing in a certain location.

Oh, alright, I get it. It is, like you said, very close to a cursor-based system but without the cursor. Instead of trying to place an orb over the baseball (I hated that) you're just swinging toward the pitch. Good hitters have a larger orb* and weaker hitters have a smaller one.

*though in this case the orb should be an invisible batting cursor similar to ASB or that Konami Japanese baseball game.

Pressure sensativity/360 degree stick is a beautiful thing....example....

Push back on the swing stick for the step (obviously)....push fwd and slightly right (making a check sign of ur finger went from the center, down for the push back, and up to the top right angle of the stick)if ur batting righty to hit the ball landing in the #4. For something landing in #5 you would push back to step still (again obviously) but then instead of pushing up pushing ALOT more to the right to indicate u want the extreme of the right side...

I played last year's Show on PS2 and I could make solid contact without using the left-stick.

It's basically how I played the game since I pretty much discovered that I was doing extra work by moving the left-stick.

No, it's the same. You can look at it by turning on "API" as it shows that same little "cursor" you're referring to.
