Re: "game informer" tidbit from 2k sports forum.

"NORTON" or any other anti-virus/firewall software is a very BAD example here. When you buy one of those programs you instantly need to download a crapload of extra files that won't be on the disk. Why? Because those programs are outdated and are no good to you out of the box because hackers or some other virus has already got something for ya that will take a dump on you. The program you just bought (Norton in this example) cannot live to what it says it does on the box - Protect you.

I have no qualms whatsoever about downloading extra content that wouldn't fit on original disc. I'm glad they did it like this. Would you rather had them EXCLUDE certain other aspects of the game just so you could have it all nice and tidy on one disc? You should be thankful for the internet and xbox live that we can get more than what a disc can hold. It is no different than back in the day when we played games on floppy discs or smaller cd sizes (like original PS1) where you could have MANY discs to play 1 game. I remember playing some games on computer that were like 6 discs or more! THAT to me was much more of a pain in the arse than dl'ing extra content at a blink of an eye and its on your hard drive instead of disc swapping.

    just my .02 cents.

This has been addressed a few times, and not just by me. 2K, put out a disk and make it available to any who phones and requests a copy. If they can't do that much, then that's crazy.
I get that. My response was more geared toward understanding your position.

You think the content should be on a second disc. I really won't argue that. That's a legit expectation.

I'm only saying that I understand why they wouldn't.

baa doesn't have a problem with the downloading method. He's more concerned about the likelihood that he or someone else won't have access to download the content.

That's a legit reason to want another disc.

KushGamer came in and reasoned that you could go to someone's house that has a connection and do it that way. He's right. But his explanation also basically states that there is no answer if you don't have this friend.

        That is unfortunate.

Which is my point exactly, seeing I don't. I type all this stuff psychically. And while I may be able to place myself in a meditative state and channel the downloadable content onto my 360, the strain could cause permanant brain damage. My guru - who's a HUGE Yankees fan BTW - has warned against that.

I know I honestly feel bad for people that can't find a reasonable way to get this content. Maybe you will be able to request it on disk or something? But I dont see them doing that. While its not the most important content to the game, one of the stadiums is Legends Field, which I personally cannot live without.

But the point of this post is to say that it is so hard for me to imagine someone having trouble getting an internet connection, because for me, personally, the internet is like a 3rd leg or something. I can't walk without it, I can't live. When my internet goes down, I start getting the shakes. I'm already having issues because the DSL at my parents' house is extremely unreliable and slow.

No, your third leg would be that thing between your legs. Unless you're saying you use that to hook up to the internet, ouch!

You can take the extra uni's and stadiums and throw them out the window. Let's just get a playable game this year. How about walks counting as earned runs, wouldn't that be nice.

I don't even have XBOX live capabilities (dial up internet). So it's not even an option for me. Something 2K could do is make it a download via XChange 360 for us who are out in the cold on all the features.

                          That or go to Blu-Ray.

Cant agree more. My business lives through the internet, and when it goes down i go in panic mode. It is nice though that 2k is doing more via dowloads, hopefully during the year they can start editing stadiums since they havent been touched in a couple of years. I would love to see the nice touches they did in 2k3 which was really distince clouds moving birds maybe cars moving in certain stadiums. I just scratch my head and say they did it in 2k3 why do they cut stuff out like that?

On a different note Kush? dont know if you read my post but maybe you answer me this, why when batters hit the ball the camera changes instead of following the ball like in 2k3 and in the show? would be alot easier to field. Or their could of been a delay so the hitter of fielder could get a better jump on the ball.

We looked into a few different solutions for this. In the end, we made a lot of optimizations to the AI at bat-ball contact time (a very processor-intensive frame) so it doesnt drop nearly as many frames right after contact. Any other fixes would have required re-writing a lot more code and we didnt have time to do it. Basically, the game is not set up to stay in the same camera post-contact, so its not entirely straightforward to make it do that. Also, in The Show, it only stays in the same camera if you hit it up the middle. If you hit to right or left, it does cut to a different camera.

But, we did look into backing up time or stalling the AI at contact - but this was the best solution for this year. I have a feeling there are going to be very significant presentation changes for 2K9. Not basing that on any concrete knowledge, but knowing a few of the things I do, I think it's very likely.

You sure have made it easier on a lot of us. Just seeing anything you have to say about the game eases my pain for information.

                                Thanks so much.
