    Re: **The little things thread**

I witnessed and preformed two awesome things tonight in a mind-numbing 15 inning game between the Rockies (CPU) and the Nats (me).

    1) I'm up to bat with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. I hit a three hopper to the 3rd baseman, and as the runner from 2nd going to 3rd he attempts to run outside the baseline onto the infield grass, but gets tagged out. Then the 3rd baseman throws it to 1st for the double play. My jaw dropped when I saw the runner try to jump around him on the infield.

    2) I'm up to bat again, and this time I chop a 4 hopper to the 1st baseman. It was Nick Johnson running to first, and the 1st baseman tosses the ball to the pitcher to tag the bag. He's too far from the bag, so he tries to tag me. As he attempts to tag me, I have the brilliant idea to dive head first to the outside of 1st base.....and guess what? IT WORKED! The pitcher was inches away from tagging me, but his swipe down the baseline didn't contact me. AMAZING.

And two more cool things I've seen that people have probably already posted: The stop-watch timer! Its so cool! I've seen it twice, once for a batter running from home to first, and then the other time was with Willie Harris stealing 2nd base. It took him 3.30 seconds flat!

Finally a game that will let you sub pitchers in as pinch hitters/runners, and let position players pitch.

I haven't used a position player as a pitcher, but when I was trying to swap around players without using the Double Switch feature (I wanted to pull a different player than the defaults), for a minute the Mets had Endy Chavez on the mound (only available pitch was a fastball.)

I played an exhibition in SF. 4pm start time. It satrted sunny(Inn1-2) then shadows grew(3-4th inning) and it was actually almost dark at dusk in the 5th innning, before the lights took effect!

Yeah, I've seen this in SF also. I like the fact it was hard for me to hit until the lights came on.

            1. anyone seen a fielder catch an offline throw and then dive to tag the runner coming to the base?

            2. The batter signaling the runner to stay or go on a wild pitch or block by the catcher.

            3. 3rd baseman fielding a bunt and underhanding the ball to the catcher on a squeeze play attempt.

            4. actually having to pitch to your defensive settings.

            5. The reactions of the base coaches on different situations, ie: fist pump on a nice hit or holding their head down on a bad play

            6. The sounds of the L-train in the background at Wrigley Field as the camera pans in from the outside outfield entrance.

Last year I played in a league, and it was an 18 inning ballgame, the other player used all of his pitchers and we weren't allowed to use starters, so he had to bring in a positon player and he ended beating me because the player he brought in did such a good job. I was amazed.

But to be on topic, I love the throwing meter, it actually responds if you hold it too long it will throw it in the dirt. And the same for not holding it long enough. The last time there was a throwing meter (MVP 06) it sucked, and I'm glad somebody got it right.

Playing the Mets I think I heard 3 or 4 planes flying over. Not sure if that's normal in real life but I thought it was cool

Oh yes it is real and your lucky to only hear it 3 or 4 times. In real life it happens 10 to 12 times a game and it is sooo loud. You eventually get used to it, but if its your 1st time there hahah its really annoying.

Also i saw a cool thing

Pop fly to shallow left field 3rd baseman left fielder and shortshop running to the ball. 3rd baseman tries to make over the shoulder catch, the ball hits his glove bounces off and the SS backing him up catches it. I was like nooooo way that just happened. And what was cool is that you saw the 3rd baseman watching the ball go into the SS glove really cool.

Speaking of watching the ball go into the glove, the batters do it too.

Between innings, depending on what happened, you can see the emotion on your players as they run back in.

Home run animations are different too.

Jimmy Rollins put his sunglasses back on during his home run trot against the Mets...nice touch.

Carlos Delgado broke open a game against the Phillies at Shea with a 3 run HR, and he raised both arms in the air as he rounded first. On other HRs (well his one, at FL), he didn't do this.

this is in @ Chase Field as well.....rightfully so.

another little thing - I had my minor league catcher field a throw home and drop one knee to block the plate and watched him brace for the impact of the oncoming runner.

This isnt so much a "little things" as an overall awesomeness...

I played a game last night, Ian Kennedy vs Josh Beckett in my franchise..

                        Becket tossed a 1-hitter and I lost 2-0.

The next game, I clobbered the Red Sox 7-3. A-Rod Homered, and Ortiz homered, and they both had their signature homerun followthroughs...and it looked AWESOME.

Not sure if this has been posted, but if your a Yankee Fan, take a close look @ Bobby Abreu's Hands when he's in the batter's box. His Sig Style is 100% correct as his right pinky never really touches the bat, it actually over laps to his left hand.. Simply Beautiful

I caught a foul ball last night in the stands and it looked great! Soriano reached over and grabbed it. That and I was charging a foul ball and didn't let up and ran into the wall with Fukudome, it was great! Luckily he didn't get hurt.

On a slow hopper to second with a runner on 1st, the 2Bman fields the ball and attempts to tag the runner moving to 2nd. The runner moves out of the way to avoid the tag but never steps out of the baseline. The umpire makes no call and by the time the fielder could collect himself the hitter was moving across the first base bag.

As I watched the replay, you could see that the 2bman just barely missed the runner. It was a matter of inches and the ump was in great position to judge the play himself.
