I'm actually probably one of the few or at least one of the vocal few who have actually switched from The Show to MLB2K8. The main reason being is moving from a PS2 to a 360. I still have my PS2 so for all intents and purposes I could go out and buy the PS2 version if I wanted. (I would have if I thought 2K8 was unplayable.)
Anyway, after playing 3 years of The Show I found myself using auto-fielding because I didn't feel like I had control of my fielders or their throws. I got frustrated going between meter pitching and classic. (I just couldn't get a good setting on either.) Finally, hitting became extremely too easy even with hours and hours of adjusting sliders.
Now I'm not saying they haven't improved upon those things, but to me, 2K8 is a breath of fresh air. The fielding is fantastic, although I wish I felt like I had even more control of my fielders. The pitching is the best I have come across. (Would be even better if you could hide the ball cursor.) I was extremely concerned with the hitting engine going in because I saw how bad it was this year. At first I was not too impressed with the swingstick 2.0 but after spending some time with it and actually learning how to use, it has become a fantastic experience.
I'm definitely not trying to knock either game here because they both have their good and they both have their bad. In terms of presentation and game modes The Show is leaps and bounds better than 2K. In terms of gameplay, 2K just seems to play better on the field.
Again, this is my own personal experiences and opinions and I do not wish to start a war or offend anyone. I just thought someone out there might relate to my situation taking the same PS2 to 360 path. Also, in my comparing 2K8 to The Show I am obviously comparing it to the 2007 PS2 version. I know the game has tightened up a lot since its move to the PS3.
