A couple of points for a 'realistic' (and to myself FUN) Franchise experience
1) The roster needs work, and stay away from 2k share rosters that make every prospect 5 star and in the 70's/80's. What will happen is 2 months into your 1st season the cpu tyeams you face will have their AA and A prospects up in the majors leading the Majors in stat categories and MLB utility men are in AA
Durability rates need to go down for many players (more time off, more injuries)
Bunting attributes are way off across the board...many have a drag bunt attribute higher then Sac bunt when it is a MUCH harder bunt to pull off
Speed is way off for some...Pujols can hardly walk in real life, here, he is average...great base stealers have low awareness and acceleration
Position attribute needs changing for some...for example, if I play the Pirates, they try to make Neil Walker play 3rd base against LHers...if you drop his 3B rating to 80...the computer will play Alvarez hitting 7th.
What I do, is that prospects in A...are in the 50's, with the other players in the 40's. In AA they should be high 50's, lower 60's and in AAA they should be high 60's lower 70's. Create most AAA and AA players for all teams...believe me, it's fun and Baseball Prospectus with mlbdepthcharts have most of the better prospects per position on each teams page including a link to fangraphs for attribute changes.
As for MLB utlity guys below 70? Raise the intangible attributes to get them over 70. They are in the league for a reason...usually I raise their clutch, anticipation or bunting ratings
They WILL get better if 5 stars but if not...that lead to point 2
2) Have edit rosters ON, and dynamic ratings OFF for Franchise. Miss taking Josh Hamilton down a couple notches and he leads the league in HRs? Edit him. Anthony Rizzo (who should be a 3 star player, nothing more) isn't as good as you want him to be? Raise his attributes. Or if you are like me and browse the minors to see who the league leaders are...you see a 2 star 20yr old player in AA leading in SLG,OBP...raise his potential...see what happens...but not every prospect is 5 star potential for created rosters...remember that, or your league will look ridiculous by the end of the 2nd year. But even if they are Oscar Tavares and a true 5 star prospect...it may not be so...because
3) You NEED to have a realistic Injury setting....I have to disagree with most on these forums, a 10-15 injury slider is laughable. Have you seen the MLB Disabled List? Per Organization, there are usually 30!! players injured at any given time. What I use is 70 injury slider...yes, it is frustrating and I HATE that baseball players have become softer than Charmin since Free Agency hit the sport, but having 2 key players out per month is what every team usually has to deal with and you should as well...you never know, you might find a AAA diamond in the rough
4) DH ON FOR AL AND NL. Because of the still HORRIBLE AI with pitchers and PHers...I recommend DH on for both leagues...I mean, it's going to happen within the next 5 years anyway...I ABHOR the DH and this stupid 1 inning Closer mentality BUT it's part of the sport. Plus, the AI will still leave a MR in there with a 1 run deficit, 2 outs and a runner on 2nd and 3rd. Are you S^%$-ing me? Usually I will switch the controller over and fix that...but still...laughable. Also, I like controlling all 30 teams because the AI is very good with lineup creation
That's my little rant...if you go against any or all of this, no worries...it's YOUR money and you bought the game, play it however you like...me, I am a masochist because I like a challenge and to be pissed when Utley and Howard only play 120 games between them with injuries here and there
