Re: MLB 2K13: The Franchise Mode Thread

Finished year one of an Astros rebuild. I started off the season like the 2000's Pirates and traded the main pieces for prospects. Altuve, Norris, Domingez, and J.D Martinez were all given up for Triple and Double-A talent in an effort to minimize team spending. My pitching rotation was surprisingly good for the price and collectively put together a 4.55 ERA. During the Amateur Draft, I picked possibly the best pitching prospect since Strasburg. Fredy Familia, the best pitcher in the draft, was already a 79 OVR to start with and instantly became my ace. I played a game with him and became amazed. His fastball was clocking in at 97 MPH and had four other pitches in his repertoire. The splitter Familia throws has a nasty break, going from top to bottom in the strike zone. Overall, the year was cost effective and we finished 72-90. With an MLB payroll of $18M, this team has potential to have a big record for a small paycheck.
      please fire Kiffin

Re: MLB 2K13: The Franchise Mode Thread

I started a new Franchise with the Pirates again. My first move is to trade SS McDonald, 3B Inge, and LF Tabata for P Dempster and a SS prospect. Tabata was especially an older guy with to large of a contract. The Pirates are weak at the SS position in general and Dempster will be the ace this year. I also traded RF Snyder for MR Ross. Going into the Season my starting roster looks like this. As of pitching my top 3 are pretty solid. Morton has a low overall, but when I pitch with him I tend to good because he has a really good curveball. It tends to have lots of movement across the zone. I also included my bullpen. We were 11 and 19 through the pre-season but I didn't play any game during that. I plan to play some games during the regular season either of importance or it just looks like a fun game to play.

Re: MLB 2K13: The Franchise Mode Thread

Okay guys, I'm in need of some advice from the masses. I just finished Season 2 of my Rays 'chise (we finished 2nd in the AL East behind Boston and lost in the Division Series. ), and was crazy excited to begin Season 3. My SS, a #1 draft pick from the previous season, ended up winning Rookie of the Year honors, due to leading the league in walks, stolen bases, and runs scored (92, 77, and 113, respectively). His contract was up, so I thought it was going to be fun negotiating with him.

The dude wanted 7.3 million!! For a franchise like the Rays, that sort of money is detrimental. Additionally, David Price's salary skyrocketed to $15 million, Evan Longoria went up to $8.8 million, and Ben Zobrist went up to $6 million. Needless to say, somebody had to go. I've since made several roster moves, the biggest which is the trading of Ben Zobrist (he's on the decline anyway). That was TOUGH to do, being a Rays fan.

So here's my question for everyone: One of my roster changes included "upgrading" (or so I thought) at LF, acquiring a defense-oriented prospect from the Cubs. He's amazing in the field, but through 12 games, he has ZERO HITS. Damn, even Adam Dunn would have a 0.178 AVG at least! Are there any reasonable LF that you guys can think of that would give me a reasonable bat (preferably contact around 70) with good defense that WON'T require me to sell the farm? Think about it!

In my pirates franchise Starling Marte does work. Starts with 66 50 but he seems to get on base a lot. He has speed in high 80's low 90's. Has loads of potential and gets gold gloves for me. Alez Presley is also alright but not as good as Marte.

The Pirates have no depth at short. Hoping to get one in Free Agency this summer. His only real problem is batting.

Not at all. Just wondering, how can a catching prospect play shortstop though?

This d'Arnaud he's talking about is a SS, Chase d'Arnaud. The catcher you're thinking of is Travis d'Arnaud. Yes, confusing, I know. Most have only heard of Travis.
