Well, it appears I've finally succumbed to the dark side. Yesterday I bought EA's MVP 2004 and let me tell you, it's way better than anything SEGA has ever made. It has everything in it, and is a ton of fun to play.

Sorry dude, I aint buying your story. I am glad you like EA, but they have their own board. Now scoot.

      Re: 2K vs. MVP

Before you start crowning a champion yet I would suggest you play a few more games of MVP first. I'm about 30 games or so in and the more I play the more really BAD bugs are appearing. I starting playing MVP on the PC while I waited for ESPN to come out. After being very inpressed at the start, my love of the game has dwindled considerably the more I play. Let me recount some of the worst bugs ever I have run into. Get constant errors calls on balls that are not even close to opposing fielders let alone real errors, The cpu AI is dumb(i.e. the picther seems to refuse to cover first base on a hit to the first baseman), Left-handed homeruns are non-existent, any homeruns are very few and far between, and oh that's right I just found out that the Dynasty Mode that I started is broken and not to look for player progression if I sim more then 51% of the games, and even if I play 51% or more after the first year all progression becomes so small its useless. This is not to mention the fact that the cpu likes to give me control of the worng fielder on sharp balls hit to the hole, or that double plays take too long to turn, or any number of bad gameplay elements that point to the fact that they cranked this product out the door just to be the first as opposed to being the best.

Hmmmm, Yeah MVP sure did smoke ESPN this year......

            Re: 2K vs. MVP

I played a lot of baseball in my day. I really took it serious i would practice hitting for hours every day. In games I also pitched. i studied the game and its history and i practiced it.
I know what baseball "feels" like to me, all i want from a baseball video game is that they get some of the "feel" correct. I really liked wsb2k3's cursor hitting. I really hate MVP's hitting system. In real baseball if you are righthanded and you want to hit a flyball to leftfield, then you have to swing a little early and get under the ball a little - So your timing would be "early", and your aim would be kind of the lower outside part of the baseball if that makes sense. But in MVP if you want to hit a flyball to leftfield you simply aim "UP and Left"- (of course it helps to get an inside pitch and time it right). I really dislike that hitting system , its like you don't have to make the adjustments just aim. To me that is taking part of hitting away from the user and i would much rather use a cursor and aim exactly where i would with a real bat and get realistic results. Espn scares me a little with their switch to zone, but it should be useful online and offline i can always choose cursor in the options.

I don't like MVPs graphics - the players are like charicatures with a realistic "touch", I don't like EA's style of graphics. It makes me want to pop a quarter in my xbox.

The throwing meters and pitching meter are kind of neat , but they shouldn't be in a baseball game. Thats not how you throw! You get the ball and you throw it - theres no meter thinking process or adjustment in real life. You can probably turn this on/off in Mvp so i am not saying this is a gamekiller , just that the meters do not float my boat.

I am so excited about playing Online. I want to play online. If wsb2k3 was online i would buy it now because it was a quality game.

IMHO wsb2k3 was easily the top game last year. I am just excited to see what espn has to offer.

Wow, its like you read my mind. I could not agree with you more about cursor hitting. Ever since WSB for the Genesis introduced it, I thought the idea of cursor hitting was best thing to hit baseball games since Real Sports Baseball hit the Atari 2600. And WSB2K3 has brought it to such great heights that I hate playing any game without it. I got worried this year when I heard there was "zone hitting" but after Fatpitcher responded to one of my posts saying thet cursor hitting is always going to be an option in this game and future versions, I relaxed a bit. Viva la Cursor!

last console EA game i bought before this was FIFA Wold Cup 2002, and i hoped i never had to buy another one. SEGA dropped the ball this year with baseball. big-time.

last console EA game i bought before this was FIFA Wold Cup 2002, and i hoped i never had to buy another one. SEGA dropped the ball this year with baseball. big-time.

It's a shame really, I've been a SEGA Sports fan for many years. I remember playing the first WSB game at E3 before it was even released. I was excited that SEGA finally was releasing a baseball title for those of us that hated EA's arcadey style.

Now scoot.

oh gosh, i'm heartbroken... please buy my story, please, i beg you. i really need your approval in order to get on with my life. PLEASE!!!!

it's just a game ppl, get over it. EA's is out and it's good. it pisses me off that SEGA doesn't get their titles out in time... EVER!!! if they expect to stay alive in order to make decent hockey, football, baseball and basketball games (which they do) they need to release them on time. simple.

and another thing... get rid of the STUPID first person BS. come on... who the F$#$ actually uses that feature for more than 3 minutes??? it's an idiotic waste of development time and money that could go into giving the game polish, not to mention getting it out the door on time. IDIOTIC!!!

I think it's funny when someone says MVP blows away ESPN, when NO ONE has even played ESPN yet. At least wait until it comes out and play it before you say it sucks.
