    Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread

Seattle Mariners travel to take on the Cleveland Indians. Erasmo Ramirez and his sinker/cutter/change combo faces Danny Salazar. I somewhat figured out the sinker a bit since I have been throwing with a few of these types of pitchers. Where do you want to throw a sinker? Down in the zone of course! Well, I finally figured out that moving the cursor down, even though it looks like the ball will bounce, forces the pitch down in the zone properly more often!

This was a nice game. A couple adjustments: base runner speed to 15, INf and OF arm strength bumped to 15 and 45. I liked what I saw.

Once you settle on the sliders could you post them here?

Ok. I will put together a post here in a few minutes with all of my settings and sliders. I am having a blast right now playing this game. Give me a few minutes, just finished another great game against the A's.

          Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread

Here are my sim-style sliders. My attempt is to get a slowed down version that looks and feels like the real thing. Base runner speed and Throwing Speeds are what drive these sliders. I had moved slightly too low on throw speeds and wasn't getting the proper trajectory so I had to come back to just below default throw speeds in the OF and bumped up INF throw speed as well. I still see a few too many double play in my opinion. But, I have seen that throughout this game on every slider variation I have played.

Classic swing is fun to use. 80 pitch speed keeps the balls coming off the bat realistically and coupled with 80 contact 100 power for CPU Batting, 10 pitcher control for user, the challenge is still there to shut down opposing hitters. I just played a game using Paxton versus the A's and Paxton was getting a lot of swings and misses, but gave up quite a few hits and one big rally sent him to the showers after 5 innings against a team that he should dominate most of the time. 25 CPU strike zone tendency allows me to be more selective at the plate and work the count more to get the pitch counts higher for the CPU.

These sliders are used in conjunction with the Range attribute edited roster I made. All players have their Range attribute lowered by 25 points. This has stopped the crazy snags of line drives by sprinting out of control infielders. What I read about the Range attribute basically said that the number is correlated to the size of radius the player "thinks" he can get to. Reduced down by 25, but not too much has allowed the fielders to react appropriately. Those with poor range now are severely hampered in their ability to field their position! I am loving this find!

The original roster is from JMC/MkHarsh33/justblazedown3/shogunofharlem. These guys did an amazing job putting this together and keeping it going. I am hoping we continue this into 2018. I hope to get my key for the reditorII from Vlad soon and I can be of more help!

I have updated the roster to put free agents into the pool and rosters reflect very close to who is on the team rosters as of 11/28/17. As I play a game versus each team I try to adjust their MLB 25 man roster to current and add 1 STAR free agents to their minors where needed. Takes a few minutes sometimes to adjust, but is worth it to get the players somewhat correct.

I will attach my Updated Roster

Good stuff! That was a sick 3-6-1 in the first inning. Very smooth. Once I get my 2 school groups through their Lego Robotics competition on Saturday I'll have some time, hopefully, to get at this and do some testing.

This game really is a very very good game. I've never played the show. The only other baseball games I play are RBI on NES and Ken Griffey on SNES, and and course Frozen Rope that I programmed myself.

This is my game of choice though. Good stuff everyone.

Looking forward for you to get a chance to test out the -25 Range. I think you hit the nail on the head with that suggestion because all 25 across the board didnt have the players reacting properly. Now they do. It really has been a game changer for me.

                  Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread

OK, Here is my recent thinking. . .I have been getting great games of late with the sliders and roster. However, I feel there are times when I am helpless against the CPU offense. They just mash off of me! I can understand when this happens against lower rated pitchers or even occasionally against a top pitcher. I get that. However, I rarely have a great start--Paxton on the rare occasion--and usually get beat up pretty hard with any other pitcher. Leake(85ovr)/Felix(82ovr) both struggle mightily.

So, I have tossed this idea out previously and haven't gotten any response or feedback--and I have used this idea for games several times--specific slider values are dynamic to the roll of a 6-sided die. I establish a range for these specific sliders and roll the die to establish the value for that slider for that game. This will add to the randomness of the game and keep away the slideritus by accepting the fact that the slider can change from game to game. Sometimes the dice roll your way and other times they won't! Here is how the dice roll system works: Take my USER batting contact slider for example, 15. I establish a range of 6 values(6-sided die) surrounding that number. I pick 0-25 for the range. Roll the die. It's a 1. My slider for USER contact for that game is 0. If I were to roll a 4, the slider would be 15. Roll a 6, slider 25. Simple, yet effectively adds randomness to the games.

Thoughts anyone? I would love any feedback about the idea! Try it for a game and post your sliders as a result of the dice rolls and the game result!

The sliders that have a range are the ones I struggle to find a happy medium on and can influence the ability of a pitcher/hitter/team. Here is my proposal:

Roll the die - Low number is low end of RANGE - High is high end of RANGE

                  USER BATTING
                  Contact - RANGE 0-25
                  Power - RANGE 40-65
                  Bunt Contact - 35
                  Bunt Success - 20
                  Batter Eye - 0

                  CPU BATTING
Contact - RANGE 60-85 edit: change from 75-100
                  Power - RANGE 75-100
                  Bunt Contact - 35
                  Bunt Success - 25

                  USER PITCHING
Pitch Meter Speed - RANGE 75-100
                  Pitch Speed - 80
Pitch Break Influence - RANGE 35-60
Pitcher Composure Influence - RANGE 50-75
                  Pitcher Control - RANGE 0-25

                  CPU PITCHING
                  Pitch Speed - 80
                  Pitch Success - RANGE 75-100
Strike Zone Tendency - RANGE 10-35
Pitch Break Influence - RANGE 35-60
Pitcher Composure Influence - RANGE 20-45

Here is a game using the recent Dice roll random range sliders.

The dice rolls were as follows and I just go straight down my list of sliders inputting each value based on the roll--1,6--1,1--3,5,5,6--2,3,2,3--5,2,3--4,1

So, the interesting random dice rolls give me USER contact of 0 and power of 65. . .interesting. Gives the CPU contact and power at the lowest values in my range of 75,75. Should be able to slow down the CPU batting. Other noted interest is USER pitching control at 25 and CPU strike zone tendency at 20. I have a distinct advantage in this game based on the rolls. . . . . .

However, this game was not that. Felix struggled in the first inning, giving up 2 runs. But, he settled and got through 4 unscathed and seemed like the game was going how I expected. I loved that having USER contact at 0 affected this game. It seemed that if my timing was off at all--which it is quite frequently LOL--Strasburg retired my hitters easily on pop ups and ground balls. I was not able to utilize the 65 power I rolled and was not able to square many balls up.

I feel like with a roll of 1,1 for CPU hitting, the USER should have a clear advantage pitching to the hitters. After this game, I fully realize that this was not the case at 75 con/75 pow. I think the range needs adjusted to reflect this. I will probably adjust the CPU contact RANGE to 60-85 and keep the CPU pow RANGE at 75-100.

Anyway, I liked the results. Here is the video:

                        Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread

I played 2 more games testing out my new Random Dice Roll Slider set. The first game was a test game. I wanted to see the result if everything was tipped in the favor of me the USER. So, I set all the sliders to max benefit of the USER and lowest values for CPU. In addition, I used my best starter, Paxton against a sub-par Texas Rangers team with a mid-70's overall pitcher--probably a back of the rotation guy.

The results were very good. I wanted to have the ability to control the game, but not have it be out of hand.

Even with maxed 25 contact 65 power USER batting sliders, I was only able to score 3 runs. I was probably swinging a too many pitches and my timing was off.

However, it was nice to see that it wasn't a blood bath, even with sliders completely in my favor.

On the pitching side was where I noticed a bigger difference. And it was relieving to see this kind of performance! Paxton was dominant, but not out of the realm of what is possible for him.

He pitched a complete game shutout with 13 K's 0 BB and gave up 5 hits. He threw 109 pitches, which is too few, but that was with max 25 pitcher control, so I would anticipate more pitches and worse outcomes with lower control.

I absolutely love this style of play!

The second game was a random roll game.
Sliders after roll looked like this:

                        Batting
                        5con/60pwr
                        65con/80pwr

                        Pitching
                        95meter/60PBI/75comp/15control
                        100success/30Kzonetend/45PBI/30comp

                        Fielding
                        10thracc/60gathererror/50threrror

Leake vs. White Sox as a glorified AAA team lol. Against a 65ovr starting pitcher and I made them pay!

Final was 13-1. Seager hit 3 home runs! Even with only 5 contact and 100 CPU pitch success. Leake was solid while struggling with command. The game felt smooth and right. Sox made a few errors and cost them 6 unearned runs.

I am really loving this! My next test will be against a really good team with maxed RANGE sliders in favor of CPU. Might not be until next week though. Stay tuned!

                        Feedback is welcome!

                          Erasmo Ramirez vs. Dallas Keuchel
Some changes in sliders from what I have been testing of late.

Took Composure influence down to 0 for both sides. Lowered CPU contact from 80 to 70. Lowered CPU Power from 100 to 90.

Still a challenge to pitch against the CPU hitters. I will probably move composure up to 20 for user and 10 for CPU.

Not a big fan of using high composure numbers myself.

Yeah, I agree. I gave them a fair shake. I was trying to give the default value at Legend setting a chance, but it seems to influence the whole game too much. The hitters seem to be robots in those situations even when you make a good pitch. The last 2 games I played at 9 and 20/10. I like the 20user/10cpu. Gives it some feel of pressure but not ridiculous.
