Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread
Okay, the last few weeks I have not been recording games. However, I have played a bunch! I have been solely playing with my Random Dice Rule Sliders. They have been absolutely fantastic. I cannot describe the different feel each game has and it adds that chance that the CPU or USER could have distinct advantages for the game.
I modified them slightly from the last time I posted them so I will post them again and explain the ranges and how to roll for them because I added a bit more range for some of the settings to introduce a bigger range of feel for the game.
Simply put, I roll two 6-sided dice at a time and write the results down on a list beside each slider I adjust. There are several that just take one die roll and I just roll one at that time. On the rolls that require just one die, the range has 6 possible values obviously. I have determined the best possible range for each of these sliders to give a good feel of either being bad or great for that specific game. Other slider settings I have determined that I needed a slightly broader range to achieve my desired results. For example, USER batting I have determined a range of 5-30 for the best possible results. I would only roll 1 die for that slider. 1=5, 2=10, 3=15, 4=20, 5=25, 6=30. Simple. The same for USER power. Therefore, I roll the 2 dice(different colors or size so that you can distinguish between each slider) at the same time and
jot those numbers down.
Moving to CPU contact. I decided that I wanted a greater range of possibility for the CPU contact and power. I liked the fact that it was very difficult to pitch against a CPU team that had 100 contact or power. But, I felt like the low end of the range with one die at 75 was still too overpowered to give the advantage back to the pitcher to balance the ranges. So I added the other die for a roll of 50-100. The first die determines the tens place of the slider, example: 1=50,2=60,3=70,4=80,5=90,6=100. The second die then determines odd or even value. If the 2nd die is even, then the result stays on the 10's or with a zero in the ones place. If the roll is odd then you push the number down one notch to make it the odd number or with the 5 in the ones place.
Example: A 2 dice roll for CPU contact of 4,5 would result in a slider setting of 75. 1st die roll 4=80, 2nd die roll of 5/odd number so move the slider one notch down to the odd result=75.

I have played 20+ games with this specific range set that I posted. Overall, 28 games with my random dice roll set my record with the Mariners is 14-14. I average 5.1 runs per game and allow 4.9. I have been blown out 11-0, I have destroyed a team 17-4, I have had a 1-0 game that ended in 10 innings, I have had several nail biters and walk-offs. There are times when I roll the dice and think one side has a distinct advantage but the gameplay proves otherwise. I have played weak opponents and I have played the best teams.
The last 23 games I have played a series against each team, mimicking an MLB schedule. I went on the road and faced Oakland and took 2 of 3. Then played the Angels at home and took 2 of 3. After that I went on the road and lost 3 in a row to Houston where they outscored me 25-10 against my 1-3 starters. The road trip continued to Toronto where I won 2 of 3, then lost 2 of 3 at the Yankees. The Yankee series was really cool to see these sliders in action. The first game I felt like I would have an advantage because the CPU con/pow was 65/55. Well, I couldn't score enough and lost a close one to Sonny Gray 2-1. Game 2 was similar and even more of an advantage for me. I had 20/65 batting sliders and the CPU batting was 65/50. But, I was unable to score against Montgomery and lost 2-0. Ariel Miranda with a spot start for the M's pitched beautifully and the bullpen was great too. Game 3 finally saw a Seattle win 7-4. Finally the road trip ends with taking 2 of 3 from the Orioles with Paxton pitching a 5-hit shutout fanning 10.
At home, Cleveland comes in and takes 2 of 3 from me. Now, I am on game 3 versus the Dodgers in an inter-league matchup. Game one was the biggest win I have ever had in this game. I won 17-4 without the benefit of a home run. Game 2 I blasted Alex Wood in the first 2 innings and won 8-3. Ryon Healy destroying the left-handers for me going 7-9 with a HR and 9 rbi in these two games.
There you have it folks, that's my rundown of what I have been playing and experiencing. I think I am going to start keeping some more detailed stats so I can fine tune what I have so far.
I hope you guys give these a shot. It is a relief not worrying if that one specific slider is in the exact right spot or needs more tweaking! Let me know how it goes.

Re: GMAB8's 2017 MLB today/slider/roster/franchise/discussion thread
Ok, good. That way at least everyone is on a team! Good stuff. How are the games going? I'm trying to find a balance of fearing the opposing big hitters while not having a boatload of crazy offense. Against really good hitting teams, I am struggling to keep them under 10 runs with any non-Paxton pitcher!
