I just wish they'd finally decide on a direction and stick with it.Comment

I'm enjoying ESPN. I really like how the game plays, I like the K-Zone pitching as well. The graphics seem very good and the commentary is top notch. There are some bugs and some problems with the game, but it hasn't been anything that has diminished my enjoyment of the game.

Buzz,
I am feeling your review. I would give the game a low B, however.
I also hate the "saddle riding" stance that the players stand in. It was a whole lot worse last year though.
But with things like "saddle riding" carrying over from last year, I don't understand why people are thinking that this game was built over from the ground up. It clearly was not.
P.s. There's nothing wrong with beign a hard judge on games. I also judge games harder than most. IMO, it's easier to mislead people with a review that goes too easy on a game than a review that is hard on the game.Last edited by inkcil; 02-27-2005, 04:44 PM.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Generally, my experience is that people with nice HDTV's and sound systems who value graphics and presentation will prefer Sega's sports efforts the last two years to EA's. Guys that are all about gameplay, or have smaller conventional TV's, will prefer EA's products.Comment

Re: Not sure how I feel about MLB 2K5...
Personally I'm diggin' mlb 2k5. I won't get into mvp vs. 2k5 (because that debate will never be won). All I know is that 2k5 looks great this year and has a realism I haven't seen in baseball games before. That plus stuff like the new pitching and the customizable features make mlb 2k5 the game of choice for me. I'm still going to try mvp (probably rent it) but unless it's a LOT better than last year, I think I'll be sticking with mvp.Last edited by derbingle; 02-27-2005, 07:02 PM.I'm trying quite hard to look like I know what I'm doing.Comment

Originally posted by mvandorNo, I'm not saying that. Outside of the lefty power bug they had a great engine last year. That SHOULD have left them plenty of time to significantly improve graphics and presentation, but as usual they made only a weak effort in that regard. EA has an MO of busting its butt on a title one out of every 4 years, and coasting the other 3. Last year they really advanced their title, this year they took their foot off the gas. Next year, well we know we'll at least not be having this debate next year.

Re: Not sure how I feel about MLB 2K5...
World Series Baseball has been my game for almost ten years now. I went with it again this year, but after playing a few innings of MVP at the store, I don't see how there can be such a split in opinion about which game is graphically better. Actually, it even seems like most people give that edge to WSB. But from those few minutes I played, MVP kills World Series Baseball (fine, Major League Baseball 2k5).
The faces look a lot better. Most of the animations are far superior, especially the batting stances & swings. They have some real player homerun celebrations? That is freakin tight. MVP actually gives me the same sense of beauty that real baseball does.
MLB is like..... eh. The awkward zoom they put on the camera this year really takes away from the visuals. Pulling a ball down the line & having the camera follow your runner instead of the ball... that eliminates one of the best things about baseball, in my opinion. The sheer beauty of the ball's path after someone hits it, if that makes sense to anyone but me. Nothing about that looks good in MLB2k5. They screwed the hitting system too, for my taste. How do companies convince themselves that removing options is a good idea?
I'm anti-EA, but their game looks & feels so much better. MLB has disappointed me all over the place.Comment
