Re: Not sure how I feel about MLB 2K5...

World Series Baseball has been my game for almost ten years now. I went with it again this year, but after playing a few innings of MVP at the store, I don't see how there can be such a split in opinion about which game is graphically better. Actually, it even seems like most people give that edge to WSB. But from those few minutes I played, MVP kills World Series Baseball (fine, Major League Baseball 2k5).

The faces look a lot better. Most of the animations are far superior, especially the batting stances & swings. They have some real player homerun celebrations? That is freakin tight. MVP actually gives me the same sense of beauty that real baseball does.

MLB is like..... eh. The awkward zoom they put on the camera this year really takes away from the visuals. Pulling a ball down the line & having the camera follow your runner instead of the ball... that eliminates one of the best things about baseball, in my opinion. The sheer beauty of the ball's path after someone hits it, if that makes sense to anyone but me. Nothing about that looks good in MLB2k5. They screwed the hitting system too, for my taste. How do companies convince themselves that removing options is a good idea?

I'm anti-EA, but their game looks & feels so much better. MLB has disappointed me all over the place.

If you think MVP LOOKS better - especially faces - you must be either an EA troll, blind, or comparing on those 17" screens at Gamestop. I play on a 38" 16:9 HDTV and 2k5 is FAR above MVP in the graphics and player model area, not to mention the amazing presentation. EA still thinks adding a few cutscenes gets the presentation job done.

MVP is stronger in some areas, but this ain't one of em.

I have to agree with mvandor on this one. The player models are flat-out the best of any baseball game and I don't get how anyone can say the faces are better than ESPN when most of the players look exactly like real life. Infact, IMO, MVP's faces were better last year. Now I can see the animations part but to call MVP MUCH better graphically simply because of better animations is ridiculous.

Re: Not sure how I feel about MLB 2K5...

The weakest part of this series for me has always been the fielding.

It just isn't fun and it feels too prescribed. The camera zooms in on a pretty small location and your take control of your player as they are already moving into the play.

I'd prefer if they'd have the camera zoomed back much much more to give the ball a sense of speed to it when you are fielding. I'd like to feel like I'm really running down a grounder or a fly ball over a good distance. As it is right now you receive control and you move you're player a little bit left or right, but it really doesn't feel like their is much skill or fun had when doing it.

For example, fly balls you just run to the yellow circle but it just doesn't seem right.

I liked the old school fielding of say Baseball Stars where you had to run all over the place to field the ball because it was fun to make plays.

I guess it's just too automatic to me right now, and fielding is one of my favorite parts of baseball. The animations and overall feel of throwing could also use some work.

Dude, you hit it right on the nose. I love the presentation, the k-zone, the ability to be the baserunner, the BTP cam angle, the ability to make custom soundtracks, and can live with the past ball glitch and funny batting swing, but the feilding for this game is awful. It's like you read my mind with what you said. They need to pan that camera angle "up and out" ALOT so you have a better sense of the entire feild when a ball is put in play. At least give us different camera angle options! Fielding was just not fun for me. Animations in the feild are bad too, especially the "saddleback riding" stance.

MLB has tons of things that I hate, but ultimately the fielding was the game killer. And seeing as how a week later we still have no option for better camera angles, I think it's time to trade this in while it's still worth 9 bucks (hopefully). I held out hope that I'd missed some options that allowed for more angles.

Yeah, but what does what type of tv you're playing on have to do with anything? If he thinks MVP looks better, that's his business. MLB looks impressive, but I don't play something because it looks impressive, has I'm sure alot of you guys don't. I play it because it plays good, and while MLB is a good game,it could have been a heck of a lot better.
