Re: There's no excuse for freezing by now Kush

Keirek, there are no flaws in my argument. We could go on for months about which game causes lockups and freezes. I remember when I was in a debate with someone, and I was telling them that it was EASports games that were the problem. After all, for me anything from EA was locking up. I blamed the games from EA. I was wrong and I admitted so. There are MANY MANY games for the Xbox and PS2 that are giving us problems. When someone says, "I have a problem with ___________ freezing and locking up all the time", We could insert many game titles in that space. We could also insert a lot of game developers names in that space. But when I can take the very same game that freezes when I play it, and put it into a friends Xbox and all is well, logically, that says something to me. Plus, when I swapped out my dvd drive, and my Xbox now plays MLB2K5 without problems, that screams something to me. Where is the flaw in that.

well, alright then. In your opinion, all the people having freezing problems in Kush related games are due to poor Xbox's and ps2's only. Yet, if the same person changes certain features in the game, such as taking off custom soundtracks, or manually editing every line in the nhl2k5 series and see's NO FREEZING, it's merely a coincidence.

You're allowed your opinion but again, there are extreme flaws in it from what i see. That's just my opinion, and in life no opinion is completely right. Let's just agree to disagree.

Ok. We disagree. But I do have to also put one last fact in... I TOO had to turn off custom music in NHL2k5 and MLB2k5 to keep the game from locking up. I had to play ESPNNFL2K5 with the excellent commentary turned off because I would get the DDE if I didn't. And I couldn't play Madden with music or commentary on at all. Since I changed the hardware in my little green box, I don't have to do those things anymore. But to finally put this to bed, yep, we have a disagreement, but only on one point. I agree with you that a lot of games are poorly coded pieces of software. Kush has had their share of problems, as well as other developers. But on this thread that you started about MLB2K5 freezing, I found an answer for THIS particular problem. The passed ball bug? Like everyone else, I'm at the mercy of Kush Games.

It happens a ton in NHL2k5, has happened previously in nfl2k5 (think they might have been a diff company though for that one ) , and happens in CH2k5. Now it's here as well.
NFL2k5 was a different developer. It's freezing, on my old XBox with a Thompson drive, was related to the commentary not getting reset right when I would pause for any real amount of time. Only freezes I found.

NHL2k5 was Kush, and was completely unplayable for me. Occasional in-game freezes, when I could get into the game. Most of the time it locked up on one of the opening screens. I returned it.

CHoops2k5 is giving me no problems at all. No freezes, no lost recruits, no weird noises in game. (I am making sure not to save on game days and I've been keeping a [not needed] backup save.)

Now how in the fvck do they diagnose a problem? Same system, same borked Thompson drive (which had plenty of lockup problems with NCAA 2k3--an EA game), same developer and series of game, two completely different experiences. On NHL I was at the extreme for number of problems, on the bad side--for CHoops I seem to be at the opposite extreme. It doesn't seem to be the same thing causing problems with these games. How do you troubleshoot that? In fact, the troubleshooting knowledge gained from the one may have fixed the other (for me) but led to problems for others.

One quick aside: When I looked at the disc for NHL2k5 it looked bad--there was what appeared to be an irregular pattern in the shiny layer. I've not seen any other CD/DVD that looked similar. It may have been one bad disc--or a bad batch of discs with a flaw in the physical disc itself, not the programming.

well, this is exactly what im talking about (by the way, i did mention that nfl was a diff company). There's no rhyme or reason to the freezes in the game except that it seems to be happening most frequently with Kush based games, or ESPN games. I've had freezes regardless of what Xbox i'm using. The hockey game developed by them is the biggest culprit of all. There's a whole slew of reasons why their game freezes, from roster bugs, .01 bug on the clock, custom soundtracks, etc etc and they aren't all related to hardware problems.

A game freezing due to the cpu not having enough players on it's roster is NOT a hardware problem at all. There are times where hardware can be blamed for some freezing problems, but this company has a track record of games that just be coincidence happen to find plenty of different methods to have the game lock up.

This thread has taken a turn into a hardware vs software debate. That's not really what i was trying to say. Of course there are times where the hardware is the source of problems, however when one speficic company seems to have so many different aspects of it's product that cause these lock ups, i think we have to put them blame equally on them as well. If my brand new Xbox freezes because of roster problems in a Kush based hockey game, then i can't logically say "Well, it must be my new Xbox now also" For what it's worth, i've only had one freezing problem with mlb so far and i just chalk it up to a fluke. The point however of this thread is that there truly is no excuse anymore for some of the things that truly are preventable to still be allowed to slip into a released game and cause some of the freezing that still happens. I'm a huge Kush supporter, but enough is enough.
