Re: A Whole New Game - WOW!

No thanks needed - what did I do?

Really though, I'm surprised how well this has worked. Three more games:

    L, 4-0
    W, 5-2
    W, 9-4

Frankly, this might be my last post in this thread. I'm gonna go ahead and just give my official stamp of recommendation and move along. It's not like there's any real discussion that needs to be had; you pretty much turn the feature on and run with it. Bottom line: games have been great.

    Have fun, everyone.

Done. Next time you might want to PM any mod or admin that's online to make sure this gets done.

        Re: Dynamic Difficulty Experiment

Wow, this has completely changed the game for me. I had a Sox franchise going that I got sick of, as I always seemed to win by a blowout, and half of my wins were shutouts. I always really disliked that after pitching to one batter, I could also usually tell how the computer was going to hit. If they smoked a hit, almost every time they would tear the cover off the ball the rest of the game no matter who I brought in.

But now, I never know if even a 10-0 lead is safe. I can dominate a team for seven innings and still lose, and vice versa. Teams are much more aggressive with drag bunts, stealing, etc.

Overall, through 5 games, I am having a blast, and am 2-3 in those 5 games with the Sox.

          Re: Dynamic Difficulty Experiment

I have to agree. I was getting bored keeping teams under 2 runs a game. I would have my bad days when I wasn't really concentrating and that was due to boredom. I'd get so bored on the mound that I almost wanted to give the CPU a chance.

Now with Dynamic Difficulty, things are tougher. I'm not seeing an unrealistic number of homeruns, but the most feared hitters are dangerous. I'm even seeing a bit more popups in the infield which is something I never saw before doing this.

I'm looking forward to the next season of my franchise because all of this is being done in the playoffs and I get the feeling I'm not seeing the full effects of this change. I'm in the World Series with the Yanks against the Cardinals so maybe the Cards will give me a tough time. (The Red Sox did, but I cleaned house with a 4-1 Series Win. Every win was tough, though).

Hmmmm, considering giving this a go.

I am using the "perfect" slider set, do i just leave those set as they are and turn DD on then?

You dont actually physically see the slider values change is that right?

              Re: Dynamic Difficulty Experiment

I've been using this for a couple of weeks now, too. I was tired of messing with sliders, so I decided I'm leaving the game on the default difficulty (pro) and turning DD on and seeing what happens.

The first few games were way too easy, I was racking up Ks like crazy and hitting a lot of HRs. That's definitely changed and the games are getting tougher, the AI is scoring more runs, and I'm not getting as many Ks.

I like it. There's also something going on in most sliders I've tried that eliminate hit variety. The last game I played I actually hit a LOT of fouls. I was hitting 3-4 at some at bats. Fouls that were just RIPPED down the lines, fouls straight back, etc. It was nice to see. I also see more hard hit base hits and doubles than I was with most of the sliders I've tried.

This is was what I was curious about myself as I also am using the "perfect" slider set. The thing is, my games have decent variety already so I'm wondering if I should give these a go.

this seems like it could be a good change. My franchise with the brewers is way to easy right now as i am 42-19. Maybe this will help me out.

I was hitting way too easily in this game and this has seemed to work. I go into Minnesota and tee off on Santana and then Bonser and Ponson beat me. Go figure

Hmm....I was playing College Hoops a lot more because my games weren't that exciting. I'll try this then.

Can I just turn it on? Or do I have to turn it on and change the sliders again?

Are you guys using hot and cold teams along with the dyn diff?

I tried this with both on and had a very good game tonight and did notice a few balls I hit that I am sure would have been homers before that ended up fly balls. Scoring was down and the pitch speed was off the hook and much faster than the 65 I had the sliders set to.

I currently have it off, only because I'm still scared that leaving it on will result in a guaranteed win against a cold team and vice versa. Maybe it's worth considered turning it back on in light of DD, but I'm in no hurry to do so as my experience with it was pretty negative.

Otherwise, here's the results of every game I've played since turning the feature on, now a 16-game sample:

                            1. L, 6-3
                            2. L, 3-2
                            3. W, 7-3
                            4. L, 6-4
                            5. L, 12-4
                            6. W, 2-0
                            7. W, 5-4
                            8. W, 7-5
                            9. W, 11-3
                            10. L, 5-3
                            11. L, 11-6
                            12. L, 4-0
                            13. W, 5-3
                            14. W, 9-4
                            15. L, 3-1
                            16. W, 7-4

That's 8-8 in total, and, save two or three, every game has been good.

My last game, a must-win against the division-leading Twins: I fell behind 2-0 in the first inning; rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth (including a 2-run shot by Ordonez that hit the foul pole - sweeeeet!); gave up the tying run in the top of the fifth; Curtis Granderson hits a 3-run inside the park HR in the bottom of the 6th; Twins cut it to 6-4 in the top of the 7th; I get a lead-off walk in the 8th, play some small ball and push it to 7-4; Jones gets the save. FRIGGIN' AWESOME, I TELL YOU.

                            ***

One last thing I'd like to point out. Notice the three-game losing streak that followed my four-game winning streak (games 6-12)? Perhaps overconfidence led to the losses in games 10 & 11? And then perhaps a lack of confidence led to the shutout loss in game 12? What happens next - I refocus and win three of the next four! ...

I mean, holy cow - this is some serious AI. Maybe the best I've ever experienced.

I have been using these in my Arizona career and i have to say.....WOW!!!!

They make the game so much more fun, i have lost 4-1, 3-2 (Bottom of the 9th 2 run Homer) and 5-2 but still having a ball.

Only 3 homers allowed its great and 2 by me in clutch situations.

                              Thanks for sharing these.
