Re: The OS Breakdown of the 2K Slider Theory

hey i just played a game with the following sliders:

AI Take Strike Overall - 35
AI Take Strike Ahead - 30
AI Take Strike Behind - 40

    AI Skill - 25
    AI Contact - 50
    AI Power - 35

I was the Royals vs the Marlins. I lost, but I gave up 5 runs on 9 hits in 7 while getting 4Ks and walking 3 with Gil Meche. It was ALOT tougher to get K's simply because the CPU wasn't letting easy strikes get by. They put a lot of balls in play but I was still able to get the 4K's and only gave up the 5 runs, one of which was unearned on an error. I might turn up the take strike settings 5 clicks each just because they swung at alot of pitches. However, if I located my pitch on the corner for a strike the cpu would let it go by, which is pretty realistic.

I have been seeing about one stolen base attempt per game by the AI with my Amazin86er slider set which is very similar to BFJ's. Brian Schneider seems to make a perfect throw everytime though and it doesn't seem to matter what I do with the throw stick meter.

Each team had two home runs and Ryan pinch hit for the Cardinal pitcher late in the game and attempted a steal! Threw him out even though I was caught off guard.

I have had to make some slider changes though. For several games there was just no offense on either side. I upped the CPU power about 5 clicks, Cpu contact about 8 clicks and the CPU skill 2 clicks.

For human I lowered the pitch speed to about 40 (not 40 clicks). Lowered the step influence about 10 clicks and increased my power a couple of clicks. Could not raise the my contact as it would have put me in the Pro level. Everything seems to be set for me now with the exception of the CPU contact slider. I may need to raise it a bit more because in the above game Del a Rosa struck out 10 batters in 8 innings. Oh yeah, I have lowered my pitch control to about 40. Still walk a couple of batters a game, mostly because I am being careful, not wild. Still had one meatball pitch in the above game and Pujols made me pay by going deep.
Are you really seeing a lack of offense??
I played two games last night and there was way too much offense in each game.
I was the Reds both games and lost to the Rays 13-9 and the Rockies 8-6. The Rays has 19 hits against me and the Rockies had 14, I just couldnt get the cpu out. They didnt hit a lot of HR's only 4 total in the two games. The thing they did was hit a ton of gaps, they hit more doubles and triples then singles. Again maybe I am putting in the wrong slider settings because I cant stop the cpu offense. Is anybody else seeing a ton of runs by both teams? I do think I need to get better at pitching, I struggle to throw anything other then a fastball or change up.

Why? Most people struggle with the pitches with distinct movements more than those with circuluar movements. Make sure you are not going too fast on the breaking pitches as it seems the system is more prone to error that way. Also make sure that you are hitting the rotation exactly. If it says to go around just past 12 o'clock, it is important it gets far enough around. There are a few pitching threads on the mechanics that may help you with those other pitches.

Makes a huge difference. Just curious why you raised it so much? I find I'm throwing meatballs like crazy now. Maybe it's just me?

BTW, thank you for your contribution. This is a great thread!
The Total Control Slider before the change was @ 20. It is now set to 60. Again these sliders are more a starting point for people than an end-point. You are free to tweak them as you see fit.

Glad to see/hear people are enjoying the game & making tweaks as they see necessary.

LOL, I played a game last night with these and had to save it, cuz I'm in the 19th inning in a 0 - 0 tie! Might have to up the offense a little bit for both sides. I had a no hitter through 11, but had to pull the pitcher for fear of injuring him.

Funny you say this. I lost a game 2-0 & between the CPU & myself we had a total of 9 hits. I used both #3 starters for reference(O. Perez METS/P. Hughes YANKS) Nail-biter in the 9th as I got 2 men on with 2 out. A-ROD steps to the plate @ Duaner Sanchez. I strike-out on 3 pitches. His Herky-Jerky wind-up threw my time off something awful...

I think personally think the SKILL Slider is what needs to raised. I'm gonna tinker with moving back to 100 for both tonight & see what results look like

I think so. Skill seems to be WAY powerful. It almost seems like Contact and Power don't even matter.

Joe I think the AI Hitting sliders are very sensitive because when I had the AI Skill at 100 I tested AI Contact at 20-25 and had AI Power at 40-45 I found that at 22 for the AI Contact there wasn't nearly enough hitting, power, or scoring for that matter, but at 23 for AI Contact the AI Hitters just went crazy with hitting everything and tons of homeruns thats why I went with 50 for AI Skill, 40 for Contact, and 45 for Power which so far has seemed to be pretty realistic.

I have turned AI skill down about 5 clicks from your sliders joe and boosted AI contact up some.(i forget how much), and also Power down a little. i just finished playing 2 games against the red sox using the yanks. scores were 7-5 redsox winning, and 6-2, yanks winning. i also have total control pitching at 75. i found anything higher to be too difficult. i feel that adjusting the contact slider has made the most difference imo. great thread Joe.

Anyone else notice when playing with their redsox franchise no matter how these sliders are set josh beckett is unstoppable? I am looking to find a slider set that makes him hittable but not have the rest of the bosox pitching staff become a launch pad.

                            I'd say edit his ratings

I can't hit at all, got shutout 2 straight and 1 hit in the last one. I tried lowering pitch speed but the slider says it lowers the perceived speed of the pitch for the user and the cpu. The AI hit me up for some big innings after I lowered the pitch speed. Anyone else notice that it might help the CPU more than the user by doing this?

You know you just gave me a thought. The way I have things now, both I and the CPU aren't hitting. I'm gonna lower that pitch speed tonight and see what happens. Maybe someone will score in our 19th inning of 0-0 baseball.
