I don't think so. BI is a Human/User Slider not an AI Slider. For me it seems not to effect the game because I play with IE: OFF & the slider description states it works when IE is ON..

Re: BFJ Presents: OS "Boys of Summer" Custom All-Star Sliders

        Hey Joe,

I've played probably between 5-8 games with these sliders, and I was wondering if you could help me out with a couple of questions that I have.

Number one, I know that another poster brought this up earlier in the thread, but I use classic pitching (because I'm too lazy to learn the total control), and I was wondering how I could make the pitching interface more challenging. I've been getting at least 7 to 10 K's a game with every pitcher in my Dodgers rotation, and that's not including the K's I get from my 'pen. I know that you had said to try raising the total contral difficulty slider, so I maxed it out last night, and I still got 8 K's with Kuroda, 2 with Proctor, 1 with Broxton, and 1 with Saito. If this was an infrequent issue, I wouldn't have a problem. However, this is the case in MOST of my games. More often than not, I'm getting K's on the CPU without them even swinging. They're taking a whole lot of strikes for K's.

Number two, I haven't been getting JACK as far as offense goes. In the games that I've played, the most hits that I've had in a game has been 10. Usually, I'm stuck getting between 3-5 hits a game. Same thing goes for the AI. Being that I've been having Cy Young-caliber performances from every pitcher on my club, the CPU isn't getting much offense either. They might get a few more hits than I do per game (6-8), but they're not scoring any runs because I some how always manage to come up with the big strike out.

I know the key is to be "patient", and believe me, I've been trying. I try to work the count as much as possible, but I seem to be inheriting an 0-2 count (much like Andruw Jones) every time I step up to the plate. I was wondering if there was any way that you can help me make some tweaks to help with these two issues, because I think the fielding is dead on. I just need to figure out what I need to do in order to get some offense going on both sides, while making the pitching more challenging for me.

Any help that you can provide would be much appreciated. Very nice work on your sliders. I enjoy them a lot.

          Question#1

If you feel your getting too many SO, I would say lower the AI Take Strike Sliders.

          Try these:

          AI Take Strike Overall 35
          AI Take Strike Ahead 30
          AI Take Strike Behind 25

Also double check in your Settings to see if your using Pinpoint or Breakpoint. What you want to use is the setting that states "the pitch will break from where you set the cursor" or some thing to that nature.

          Question#2

As for you hitting. Try this drop Step Influence from 25 to 10 & drop pitcher difficulty from 65 to 50. You also may want to drop AI Corner Slider from 55 to 40.This should help with your offense. As for the AI Offense I'm not a big-fan of upping the AI Skill Slider (program cheat) but you may need to up this slider to 30 or 35. Give these a try & let me know how it turns-out

EDIT: Lost the game 9-1. TB had 16 hits:

            7 singles
            8 doubles

            SO: 2

            Yanks had 6 hits:

            4 singles
            2 doubles

conclusion for me is even with skill @ 0 for the AI when the TCP is set high the AI will pound you . Not really sure if the Batter Influence slider really does anything when the User isn't using Inside Edge.

I agree with this 100%. I have been using your original set of sliders post patch and found once my pitcher fatigued to around 40-45% every pitch got rocked. Everything else has played well. I lowered the original outfielder speed cause they were getting to absolutely everything.

I lowered the TCP, I believe, 10 notches and saw much better results. The ball came of the bat much better, more line drive hits that fall in front of the outfielder instead of finding the gap. And still saw a ball or two hit to the warning track. It seems the TCP is way more important for the AI hitting than for human pitching. Yes it is harder to be accurate with it high, but the AI just pounds the ball relentlessly as well.

Love the original sliders, scared to try the new ones cause I mainly am too lazy to re-enter them if I don't like the new set.

Love following the discussion though. You guys are truly artists when coming up with your slider sets. Thanks for that.

Re: BFJ Presents: OS "Boys of Summer" Custom All-Star Sliders

I lowered the pitcher difficulty to 50. I am seeing alot better hitting and not home run crazy hits or feeling stressed to get hits because you were having problems seeing to many weak hit balls in the infield. I now see liners threw the hole, hard hit grounders that don't get always stopped by the diving infielders. Blopping singles (texas leaguers). And nice not hit to the wall on the fly doubles. I average around 9 hits a game and so far arouns 4.5 runs a game. The cpu offense seems to be tuned pretty good i gave up 6 runs with dice k last game in 7 innings with 6k's. I lost 6-5 Blanton vs. Dice-k. I got 4 walks that game. No homers for me yet in 2 games. The A's hit 1 off me so far this series. Gonna play around 10 games with these and see if they hold up. Your TCP slider at 65 seems to be giving good results against oakland i think any lower and the offense will be too weak. But i have yet to go against a power house team like detroit or the yanks. I'll post up coming results.

Ok, that what I thought you meant. As for the IE tho, it should effect you because the IE stuff in the sliders is for the CPU. The IE for the Human batter is always on when this slider is used.

And I have to say that I've since gave the settings Dan posted a few games in franchise and the difference is 100% different from the exhibition games. Funny there's that much difference between the modes. I think he might be onto something as far as the AI hitting is concerned. The only thing that worries me is the AI seems to be fooled a lot by the pitches, swinging early and late a lot more than I'm used to seeing. Wonder if the skill has that affect?

Bahnzo, where do you have the TCP Slider set @. Dan posted than when he set the TCP slider to 100 the AI offense picked-up. If you feel your TCP Setting is good, then up the AI Skill to 10 set the Contact slider to 65 & leave Power Slider @ 25

Yeah, I might try upping the AI skill in increments of 5 to see if that helps. I use a TCP of 85, so the effectiveness rating of pitches is still pretty low which results in decent hits from the AI, it's just a matter of getting them to put it into play more often.

Ok i played 2 games against the blue jays and it seems like my team got their hands on some steroids. In 2 games games i crushed out 6 homers. When i played my series against the A's the game played realistic only one homer in that series but a different story here with this series. I am thinking this game is messed up because of bad player attributes (ratings). I really wonder if it can turn out to be be a decent game in franchise. I do believe the hot and cold teams ruin the franchise cause when your hot your are super charged. Maybe it was a fluke but i'll try a few more games and see what happens. Gets my hopes down when i see veritek and lowell with 2 homers in the first 6 games.

                            Hey Joe,

Thanks for your help. I had the time to test out a good 8-10 games using the settings you suggested, and I got a mixed bag of results.

Number one, I am definitely not having the strikeout problem that I was having prior to changing the sliders. In the games that I've played, I've averaged maybe 5-6 Ks a game, which is a huge improvement from the 10-12 that I was getting before. I get a good mix between the AI swinging and taking the call for the strikeout.

Number two, the offensive issues: As far as the CPU not being able to generate offense, that is a thing of the past. The new settings that you've given me have made the games that I've been playing pretty fun. I'm one of those who doesn't mind losing, as long as the game was fun and not totally unrealistic. I'd say that the AI is averaging a good 7-9 hits a game. In the games that I've played, I think their averaging about 4-5 runs a game, which I don't think is too bad. Even upping the AI Skill slider didn't make me feel like I was getting cheated, although I have to really try to use the corners as much as possible, or I'll get punished. I think my record for these last ten games is 5-5. So, I'm getting a really good mix of results, which is encouraging. Now as far as my offense goes, I still have some problems. I think the main thing is my step timing. I was whiffing at least 8-10 times a game even with the step influence at 10. It was really terrible. I really didn't see any changes in my offense from before you gave me these settings. There was a huge change in my pitching and the AI offense, but not much to report on my offense. So, yesterday I tested the step influence at 5, and I was slowly but surely able to generate some offense. The first game I tried this with was LAD vs. ATL (cpu). Glavine threw a beauty through five, but in the 6th, I started to knock him out. It was a 2-1 lead for them at that point, and then I scored 3 runs to make it 4-2. After that, I just beat up on their relievers. In the end I had scored 9 runs on 12 hits. I racked them up once they took Glavine out. I didn't know if ATL's bullpen sucked that bad, or if it was more of a slider thing, so I tested another game. This one was against the Angels. They were up on me 2-0 through four, but I came alive in the fifth. I was able to get a HR with Furcal that cut the lead in half. Then in the 6th, I was able to string a few hits together (triple by Pierre, double by Martin, single by Ethier) to take the lead 4-2. They got one of the runs back off of Beimel in the 7th to make it 4-3. I put Broxton in to set it up in the 8th, and he retired the side. Out comes Sammy Saito, and he puts men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out! Luckily I got Hunter to pop into an infield fly, and then got the next batter out on a grounder. Awesome game. In the end, the Halos had 12 hits on me, but only 3 runs, which I attribute to some good defense and smart pitching. I only had 6 Ks, with four different pitchers. The hit fest in ATL, did not take place here for me. I only had 6 hits, but I strung them together to get my 4 runs.

You wanted results, so there they are. My next question to you is if you could give me some feedback on my tweak to the step influence slider. I want to get your thoughts and see if there is anything else that I should think about changing in addition to that slider. Again, your help is much appreciated.

Has anyone else read the post on the swing stick 2.0? Perhaps this is why the offense is so difficult for most of us. If you haven't read it, it basically said the swing is in 3 parts not 2 this year. Tap back for step, you don't need to hold it there. Second is the release after step, back to neutral. And lastly, push the stick in the direction you want to go. So pull back, release and push. Insterad of pull back and push. Haven't tried it yet, but others have said their results improved offensively once they figured that out.

Might be I was too stupid to have figured this one out already on my own, but wanted to share and see if anyone else had noticed this.
My Friend Chris owns me in 2k8. Seriously, I suck.

                              Go Friars!

HK, I changed this because I believe I made the OF Speed higher than what is was in the 1st set, the other thing is the PATCH definitely has an effect on the game play. If for what ever reason your not liking those settings, please go back to the last setting.

Again, your help is much appreciated.
itbeme23, glad to hear those tweak suggestions seem to be working for you. As for Step Influence I would try setting it @ 10.

Soory for not responding in a couple of days. It's been a crazy week @ work
