Yep I was just thinking about this last night. Just like in the old MVP days...

Pre-patch I had a set that I was happy with my hitting for power. Post patch with the same set I had no power at all like many here. The only adjustment I made was a one notch drop(ie 75 to 70) of the User Batting Pitch Influence slider. This one change brought my hitting back to where it was pre-patch. Went from post patch 10+ game with 0 HRs and nothing but weak hits even using the L-Stick to a 0-4 HR per game variety with a lot of balls hit hard with and without the L-Stick.

I am pretty sure my power number is a good bit lower than what Joe's set is using now because he made some pretty big changes there to get the power back. So if you went way up on the power slider and make changes to this slider I think you will have to back the power slider down or see some big HR numbers.
soooo...I found an earlier set where success was 50, contact was 25 and power was 50. So are you saying that if I back off to 70 on the pitch influence, these other numbers are still good?

I am currently at 40 success, 0 contact, 50 power, 70 pitch inf. Before the patch it was the same except for 75 pitch inf. Before patch 0-4 HRs a game. Post patch 0 HRs and no power on normal hits. Dropped pitch inf to 70 and back to 0-4 HRs a game with a good mix of power.

I do use L-Stick sparingly so that might come into play if you don't.

Cool, thanks. I will fiddle with it. Was a little TOO successful before the patch with the homeruns, but my guess is dropping the contact to 0 might balance that out.

I do use the left stick a lot (kinda a reflex from playing MVP 05, my last baseball game) so maybe I back off the power a bit more.

Between these and some new ideas for pitching I should be in my baseball bliss soon.

Thanks to everybody for their input.

Well i was finally able to play a game with jhoes opening day sliders...much improved...but i had a hard time getting any hits, some singles here and there,

i played as the yankees vs the orioles, guthrie walked damon on 4 straight pitches,(never happened before), then i got caught stealing(as i always do), pitching was great, i had Joba going and he went 2 1/3 before being taken out b/c of finger injury, he left the game down 1-0 after throwing 30 pitches 19 for strikes, he had 4 k's and 1 walk.

overall i thyink these sliders are great, i just need to get my hitting down

Gave the updated set a try. Phils (me) vs Rays

                  Rays - 9 runs / 14 hits / 0 errors
                  Phils - 3 runs / 9 hits / 0 errors

My bullpen gave up 5 runs late. CPU had 4 doubles and so did I. Overall the game played well. I still find it too easy to hit my spots pitching. Any suggestions to add a little more variety to my pitching?

For those having trouble getting hits, drop the AI Pitch Success Slider to no lower than 40 this should help some. Also for those having trouble nailing Curve Ball & Sliders, lower your Gesture Slider by 1 click until you get the results you like

joe, since 2k8i have waited patiently for you to give us realistic and entertaining sliders; and again you have not let me down. I have played through spring training alternating sliders to see which really help me the most and yours after the patch have been a huge success thus far. I started my rockies 'chise and had a great game losing 6-3 aginst the d-backs. Pitch counts were great 110 me and 98 them. I started try and force things and had to knock contact down a click. I hit a JACK with Tulowitzki and gave up one also to Reynolds. I had trouble with curves and sliders like others but changed my aim to pinpoint. This does not mean it hits that exact spot however, it just limits the amount of space the pitch will be off. I still threw a wild pitch and a few bouncers. I love this game now, thank you for saving it for me.

What about for people who dont use the hit influence stick (left stick) what are good settings for these people, does anyone out there not touch the left stick and get a good amount of homeruns????

Joe the biggest problem I am seeing with teh AI offense is they are hitting to many bad pitches well. Fast balls high and away off the plate are being smacked for homers... Breaking balls tailing away from batters are being pulled for shots in the gap etc... Do any of the sliders tone this down or is that just the way the game is coded? Are you also seeing this? Thanks

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders

Alright Joe. First off love the sliders. Just like every other year . Anyway, my biggest gripe with my stats for this game, and seems like every other year, is the pitch counts. Obviously there is not much you can do here. There is no foul ball slider like last year nor are there sliders for AI taking/swinging at pitches behind and ahead in the count.

I am not here to ask you what to do to make my pitch counts higher, (although any tips would help), but I am here to give my 2 cents of advice. As far as the user working the opposing pitcher, I have been playing with the pitch speed slider. While this isn't all that has to do with foul balls, it does affect it. Here is my theory:

I believe that the faster the pitches come to you, the harder it is to time different types of pitches (obviously). If a fastball is coming at you with pitch speed at 100 instead of 70, it is going to make it a lot harder to read it as it leaves the pitcher's hand. Now dealing with foul balls. It is evident this year that timing affects hit variety. I have found that swinging later (RHB) will have him foul it off to the right, whereas swinging earlier (RHB) will have him foul it off to the left; as it would in real life. Since you are the slider guru, I was wondering how much you tampered with this slider while creating this set, and did you notice any difference in foul balls? A side not to that above, I like to move the right anolog stick up and to the right on a pitch that I am going to be late on (FB) and move the right anolog stick, not the left, to the left on a pitch that I am early on. This simulates players in real life reaching for balls just to stay alive and foul balls off.

Anyway, again just my 2 cents. Just wanted to see what you think.

PS: Any chance that the AI agressiveness could be tweaked through a roster update? Still seeing a lot of first pitch swinging. Maybe it's my pitching, though idk.
