    Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

I think we're on to something with these sliders, fellas. Just had a pretty good game (statistically) with them. These are the same sliders from my last post.

    Final Box Score:

    LAD: 5 10 0 - 8 Singles, 1 Double, 1 HR
    MIL: 0 9 0 - 6 Singles, 3 Doubles

    Game Notes:

I'm going to keep this one a lot shorter than my last post, for sure. I started Stults for this one, and the Brewers brought Jeff Suppan to the mound. There wasn't anything really of note in the first couple of innings, but I was able to consistently hit off of Suppan. I opened things up with a Furcal single (with a stolen base), RBI single by Ethier, and two-run homer with Manny all in the top of the 3rd. Again, I'm a really patient hitter, so I am usually able to work the count pretty well. My approach at the plate rarely changes, and it's really good to see that I was able to get hits off of Suppan, where I was stifled against Hanson last game. I like that sort of variety. Another note about the pitching: Hansen went 6 2/3 innings on 109 pitches last game, but Suppan only lasted 3 innings on 59 pitches in this game.

Things were pretty quiet until the top of the 8th. They beaned Manny with 2 outs, and I worked the count full with Matt Kemp. I ended up shooting an opposite field double down the first base line to put men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. Next up is Loney, and he hits a sharp single to right field, which scores both runners. 5-0 Dodgers going into the bottom of the 8th. Things kind of get interesting here, with Escobar pulling a leadoff double to the left field wall, but I end up striking out Braun AND Fielder with Troncoso! I then get Weeks to ground out to 2nd to end the inning. Nothing going on in the 9th, I got Carlos Gomez to ground into a game-ending double play.

    Extra Notes:

Ryan Braun had two doubles for the Brewers, and Escobar had the other. They scattered hits pretty consistently throughout the entire game, but they never got the ones that they needed to rally.

One thing that I'm continuing to notice is the low pitch count by the user. I got into the 7th inning with Stults fairly easily. He finished with 88 total pitches, which averages to about 12.5 pitches per inning. That's definitely on the low side. I think my next slider tweaks are going to come in the human pitching areas, with my first change being raising the Pitch Meter Speed slider back up to 75.

BTW, I was 1 for 2 in steals in this one, Blazzen. Furcal got in there easily because of my great jump, and Kemp got caught easily because I ran on a pitch out!

So much for making this a "shorter" post. LOL. Sorry, guys.

    Cheers.

Just played a game vs. the Dodgers.

        Jurrjens vs Kershaw.

Pitchers duel into the 5th when Jurrjens gives up a 2 run homer to Belliard, a triple to the pitcher (I dove with McClouth and missed) and ended up giving up 3 runs in the 5th. Twice I had runners 1st and 2nd nobody out and failed to score before the fifth. Game went 3-0 until the 7th when McClouth went long against Kershaw. Two batters later he walked chipper and got pulled. Glaus GDIP ending the inning. Game ended up 4-1 Dodgers.

        Braves 1 7 0 - 5 singles, 1 double, 1 hr, 3 walks, 8 ko
        Dodgers 4 11 0 - 8 singles, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 HR, 9 ko, 0 BB

Sounds like you had a good game, dude. Nice to see that we're making progress.

I had a couple of questions for you about your sliders:

            1) Is there a particular reason why you have the CPU Running sliders set this way?

            RUNNING: (CPU)

            Hit 'N Run Tendency: 75
            Sac Bunt Tendency: 75
            Squeeze Bunt Tendency: 65
            Base Running Aggression: 75
            Steal Aggression: 60
            Steal Success: 50

I stuck with the All-Star defaults on these, and I was just curious why you have them at the values above?

            2) How was user pitching in your game against my Dodgers? I'm going to go with the legend settings for Break Influence (100) and Composure Influence (75) to see if I can get a more challenging/realistic experience and pitch count.

            Any thoughts?

            Cheers.

              Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

Just had a pretty good game. I am playing a Marlins franchise just to test out the mode before I start my real one with the Twins once opening day rosters and the patch come out (might be a while).

Anyway I played against the Marlins. It was Anibal Sanchez(FLA) vs. Kenshin Kawakami(ATL). The first was really the only inning that had offense until the 9th. The Braves scored first as all they needed was two hits. They got a double from Chipper Jones and a base knock from Brian Mcann scoring Jones. In the bottom of the 1st I got a leadoff single, then Hanley hit the gap for a double moving the runner to 3rd. I like to play 1st to 3rd on extra base hits realistically because there was only 1 out and my guy would have made it home easily due to the fact that every ball thrown from the OF gets cutoff even though the cuttoff man is only 5 ft from the bag. Then in the next AB there was a wild pitch so I scored. Hanley was left stranded.

It was a pitchers duel throughout the entire game. I just could not time Kawakami at all. He threw an 86 mph FB and then would catch me off guard with a 76 mph 12/6 curve. It was just really hard to judge. Also his curve had so much movement it would drop well out of the strike zone and I would swing. On another note I have the strike zone off for batting and pitching to make it harder. Pitching is still way too easy in this game no matter what settings you have. Also when batting I don't have hitters eye on because I like more of a challenge on reading pitches.

Back to the game. In the 9th Kawakami was still pitching. He only had thrown 90 pitches and was just dominating me. In the 9th however I got to him. I got a double from Chris Davis who I got in a trade with the Rangers. It was Davis and Dave Holland for Cody Ross (batting .211), Jorge Cantu, and one of my other pitchers.

So I got the double from Davis. Then the next batter got out I believe. So John Baker stepped up and delivered a clutch hit into the RC gap scoring Davis easily. Sadly there was absolutely no celebration. Instead Baker just slowly walked from second to the dugout with no players celebrating. It kinda took a little of the excitement out of it.

All in all the game felt pretty good. Both teams scattered around hits. The Braves only got as far as 2nd base all game besides the 1st inning when they scored. They never had a guy actually stand on 3rd base. They finished with 1 double and 7 singles for 8 hits. As for me I had 2 doubles and 8 singles for 10 hits. I think I had one inning where I had a guy on 3rd with 1 out but he didn't score. The hits were pretty realistic. I'm just gonna stay with the sliders for now. The key for sliders is to just keep testing the same ones so you can get a good look at how the sliders play. One game doesn't always show how the game will play.

I'll try and report more as I go along.

                Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

I bumped a couple of those cpu run sliders up to see if i could get them to try a hit and run or squeeze play. Havent seen either, not sure how effective those sliders are. I probably need to make it harder for the cpu to steal and maybe have them steal a little less often. I get bases swiped all the time.

Played one more game before I call it a night. Braves vs. Reds, Hanson vs. Homer Bailey.

                Braves 2 6 0 - 4 singles, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 11 ko
                Reds 4 11 0 - 8 singles 2 doubles, 6 walks 9 kos

Homer Baileys windup really threw me off. I scored once in the first and then not again until he came out in the 7th or 8th. Think I was getting tired while playing this game (and writing this message heh) cause I was swinging at some junk. Hanson just didnt have it either. I usually dont walk many guys but I was all over the place early which led to runs. Despite Hanson being wild early I thought he tired just a little bit too quickly. I might go with a 60 pitcher fatigue instead of 65, though 65 does seem to be a good number for cpu pitchers getting pulled. Maybe its just Hansons stamina rating, i bet that is it.

So the two things I'm watching right now are pitcher fatigue and making the cpu steal less and with less effectiveness. Everything else seems good. I'm not worried about my lack of offense the last two games as I dont think I played well. I put up 12 runs and 21 hits with these same settings yesterday so it was just an off day.

                Back it at tomorrow!

                  Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

I just had another pretty good game.

                  Final Box Score:

                  LAD: 2 9 0 - 8 Singles, 1 Double
                  NYM: 1 9 0 - 9 Singles

This post isn't going to have my normal enthusiasm in it. Although it was good in nearly every way, the glaring problem that I'm seeing is the user pitch count. I brought Kershaw to the mound, and they brought Perez. I found it hard to hit Perez, and it was scoreless through five innings. The Mets ended up scoring on a David Wright single that got through the 3rd base hole. There isn't really anything to report up to this point, except for the fact that Clayton Kershaw's pitch count is about 50 at this point. I ended up going 6 innings with him for a measly 59 pitches. This makes me EXTREMELY ANGRY.

Other than that humongous glaring issue, the game played well. Oliver Perez pitched out of a pretty big jam in the top of the 7th. I lined out with Manny to start the inning, but I singled with Kemp and was able to steal 2nd. Loney ends up singling, and now I have men on first and third with 1 out. Next batter is Blake, and I send an opposite-field double over Francouer's head which scores Matt Kemp from third. I was sure that they would pull Perez after giving up three straight hits and giving up the lead, but they left him in. He pitches out of the jam by getting Belliard to fly out, and he K's Reed Johnson, who I brought in as a pinch-hitter for Kershaw (again, after his whopping pitch count of 59). The only reason I chose to do this was because I had a man on third, and I didn't want to risk having a pitcher hit, especially with the way Perez had dominated me up to this point.

Everything quiet until the top of the 8th. They actually brought Perez in to start the inning, and they took him out after he got the first out. He ended up finishing with 7.1 innings on 122 pitches. Bad moves on Jerry Manuel's part, because I get a single with Russell Martin. On a failed Hit 'N Run, Ethier grounds out, but Martin is safe at 2nd. Next batter is Manny, and Feliciano quickly gets me 0-2. I use defensive swings to stay alive, and on the fifth pitch, I get a bloop single (using defensive swing) over the 2nd baseman's head to score Martin from 2nd.

I brought in Sherrill to pitch the bottom of the 8th, and despite giving up a single, he still retired the side with ease. Nothing going on in the top half of my inning, and I brought in Broxton for the save in the bottom of the 9th. 1-2-3 and there's the ball game.

This technically was a great game, and I should feel a lot more excited about it than I do, but the user pitching is really bothering me. It just seems like there's a carryover from last year's game with the A.I. batters being far too aggressive. I know that Kershaw is a great pitcher, and I'm a HUGE Dodgers fan, but he is also notorious for his high pitch counts. But 59 pitches through six innings? You've got to be kidding me. There's no way that is acceptable in a simulation baseball video game. I even raised the Pitch Meter Speed, Pitcher Composure Influence, AND the Pitch Break Influence sliders to make it more of a challenge, and it obviously didn't help at all. The "Battle at the Plate" is a great idea from 2K in PRINCIPLE, but the over-aggressive A.I. is counter-acting what they were trying to accomplish. This NEEDS to be addressed by 2K in a patch, or else it could be a game killer.

Also, it seems like the CPU pitcher stamina is an issue as well. Although moving the pitcher fatigue curbs this issue to a certain extent, I still don't think pitcher's should be consistently staying in the game after throwing over 100 pitches.

Other than that..... IT WAS A GREAT GAME!!!

(I mean the above-mentioned statement in the MOST sarcastic tone ever!)

                  Rant Over.

                    Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

I started a Fantasy Draft 'chise so I'll give these a shot a few games tonight when I get home from work (2nd shift, TV station). Last night, while playing strictly on PRO default sliders (Pitcher fatigue at like 60-65 and fielder speed at 20) I noticed that my team was doing fine hitting, but the computer didn't do anything but bounce singles through the infield, so hopefully the CPU boost in power will help. The thing I'm "worried" about most is the way the CPU runs its pitching staff. I don't know if it really has much to do with stamina/pitch count as it does with whether or not the pitcher is getting outs. Last night, Beckett was shutting me down despite being below 20 stamina (once he reached 20 stamina the number went back up to 99, so I don't know what he finished at) and the CPU left him in to finish the game. Conversely, I roughed up Lackey in my next game and the CPU pulled him fairly early, with a higher stamina. However, the guy they pulled him for (forgot the name) was easily below 30 stamina but was shutting me down so they left him in. Just a small sample size, but something I'll be monitoring.

CPU pitcher stamina is definitely something that I feel needs to be patched as well. Again, from the six games that I've played, the CPU pitcher will consistently stay in the game until the later innings (7th-9th) despite throwing over 100 pitches. This is even with the Pitcher Fatigue slider being set to 65 or 70. Like you've noticed, the only time the CPU pitcher will get pulled early is if he's given roughed up early.

My main issue is still the A.I. aggressiveness at the plate, which in turn is negatively affecting user pitch counts (see my last post for that rant).

These are two issues that DEFINITELY need to be patched in order for this game to live up to its potential.

I'm in the process of playing some games right now with these sliders and I've also noticed that the CPU is very, very aggressive at the plate (got through an inning on 3 pitches). I'm thinking maybe a decrease in CPU Contact may fix this, as they'll swing and miss more, thus raising pitch counts, but I don't want them to stop hitting the ball altogether. I pound the zone with pitches though, so fixing this may just be throwing out of the zone more to realistically get your pitch count up.

EDIT: As of right now, I'm at about 35 pitches with Volquez and I'm nearly through 5 innings.

EDIT 2: Actually, now that I think of it (just had a long foul ball battle against the CPU hitter) maybe an increase of the CPU contact will induce more foul balls...

Getting better pitch counts will be up to the user. Throw more balls. I know I have a tendency to throw a lot of first pitch fastballs for strikes to get ahead and you have to break this habit.

I don't get much better pitch counts either. I'm not sure it's something that can be fixed with sliders so you'll either have to change your playstyle or look past it.

Blazzen, thanks for these. Do you know exactly what Pitcher Speed does? I noticed it remains at 60 for every difficulty.

                            Thanks.

If anyone is having a problem generating high pitch counts the problem will be solved if you pitch to the catcher suggestions.

I've been doing this since 2k8 and have had success getting high pitch counts even in last years game.

The CS are based on Inside Edge and they work so much better this year because IMO Inside Edge is finally working as it was originally intended to.

There are games where my pitch counts are low (but rarely averaging less than 12 pitches per inning) but for the most part I'm averaging between 15-20 pitches per inning. One example was with Jeremy Bonderman yesterday. I had to pull him in the 4th because he was up to 80 pitches. In a Twins game I used Blackburn against Boston. He threw 25 pitches in the first inning and then eventually settled down. I pulled him in the 7th with 88 pitches.

The Catcher Suggestion work. Use it in combo with these sliders and you shouldn't have a problem. Just try it.

                                Dave,

If you mean "Pitch Speed" it's a USER only slider that increases the velocity of pitches when you are hitting.
