Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders

I started a franchise (Oakland) on release date, I set my starting sliders at Pro and began manually tweaking based on what I saw throughout each played game. When I ended spring training I wasn't very happy with my sliders, so I found this post and began using these. Through the first 2 weeks or so of the season they were absolutely perfect. Outcomes and stats were pretty much falling in line to where they should be (though perhaps a little high on injuries). I returned home from a road trip to face the Tigers at 7-5 with the bulk of the games in the 4-3 score neighborhood, with 8-10 hits per game with no more than one or two HRs for either side per game and a reasonable number of Ks on both sides. Seemed like it had really locked in nicely. Anyone, so I go 2-3 days without playing and sit down last night to start the series against the Tigers. Brandon McCarthy is my starter (2-0, 3.93 thus far) and can't get out of the first with the Tigers batting around and hitting 3 home runs. I also noticed that none of my pitches seemed to be ending up where they should (without any major changes in my delivery tracking). I write it off as some guys just have bad days, warm up and bring in a middle reliever, and get out of the inning. I go to the home 1/2 of the first, and their starter strikes out the side on 9 pitches (every swing registering as VERY late as if this is the first time I've ever tried the game). Long story short (well shortened), I lose this game 19-0, strike out 19 times with the first 9 batters all being retired by K. OK, maybe just one of those "blow up" days, they do happen. I then begin the next nights game with Trevor Cahill and he coughs up 5 runs in the top 1/2 of the first, again with my pitches not ever really landing where it seems they should.

I've changed nothing in how I play the game, but suddenly am getting crushed after 2 weeks of realistic, competitive games.

Do I soldier on and assume things will level back off? Is there a glitch where your slider settings are suddenly ignored? I was really so happy with this game when I found these sliders. It really brought the game to life for me. Now I'm considering trading it in towards The Show.

    Frustrated.

When you set them, did you set them from LEGEND or did you just plug these numbers in from PRO?

Based on the title of your thread, I presumed they were from Legend, so I switched to Legend, and started modifying the numbers from there.

You set them correctly then.If you feel your pitches are not landing where they should, bump User Pitch Control UP. As for swinging & missing don't feel bad, I swing & miss a lot also. What has helped is taking as many pitches as possible. It allows for you to see what the pitcher likes to throw & it also drives up pitch count.

I've also made some changes on the 1st page.

I also would recommend throwing waste pitches & changing location & pitches as much as possible.

The weird part was it just seemed to change so arbitrarily. 3-4 games early I tossed a 4 hit, 9K shutout with Gio Gonzalez and then suddenly couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with pitches a couple of starts later. It really felt, for lack of a better description, that the game suddenly broke. I'll give it a few more games, was just wondering if anyone else had seen the game suddenly change like that.

I all of a sudden in my Reds season am giving up a ton of runs.
My team ERA was 5.01 before my last 3 games, in those 3 games I have allowed 9, 8, and 11 runs. I think it has alot to do with playing hot teams or players.

I've have seen that also. I've basically lost every game I've played. Some close/some blowouts. Yesterday I finally got into the W Column. It didn't look good for the 1st 6 innings. Losing 6-0. Being 1 hit. All of a sudden I exploded in the 7th to tie. Took the lead in the 8th & won the game 8-6

Remember to switch it up when pitching. I think the CPU is adapting to our pitching tendencies & becoming aggressive to pitches in the zone. If this is true switching up Pitch Type & Location as I said will be important

I also think that this is what is happening. I was pitching great with Jon Lester through 4 innings against the Rangers, then I gave up a bunch of hits over the next 3. Maybe I just started pitching worse, but it seemed like the CPU started to adapt to my pitching..

Another thing you should look at is what effort you are still getting out of your pitchers late in the game. That meter gets progressively quicker and harder to nail. But worse, often when you are early, you start seeing 57%'s and 67%'s. Early in the game, it is easy to get 80+ and 90+ efforts. But as the meter gets quicker, those rates drop.

When you over throw, it is an automatic 75% effort. this begins happening before you get to you pitch limit, too. If a starter is an 80-97 guy, you might start seeing some issues as early at pitches in the 70's.

I've mentioned it several times already, but spending some time with the pitch analyzer set to Always will reveal some interesting information. I don't think you will need to keep it up always, but there are reasons why pitching is hard. The analyzer is a great tool.

I wish I could say the same for the swing analyzer, but it pretty much just tells me what I already know.

But all of this is a great indication of just how well don the pitching really is now. There is a lot to it. You can then play with the meter off, but you will have a better understanding of what is going on, and how to adjust.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm going to stick with it for a spell. I think maybe part of it could simply be my own lack of focus. After years of button press based games, after a handful of games you can kinda settle into a rhythm (rut perhaps) of just sort of mindlessly going through the motions and having things work out. Perhaps I've hit that point here, and 2K just doesn't allow for that. The idea that the AI is actually adaptive is really quite intriguing.

My games have always been about relaxing after a long day, perhaps a bit more focus is in order here.

                      I shall overcome!

Those mid-late game rallies are from leaving in a starter too long. Once they reach the minimum of their pitch limit range you gotta keep them on a short leash. If they start giving up hits pull them because the hits are going to keep on coming. I'll throw a starter to the top of his pitch count range if I'm getting guys out, but more often than not they start getting wild or giving up hits. In a close game you might not want to chance it especially if you have a solid bullpen.

This all has to do with how fatigue effects pitch effectiveness. Meter starts moving faster which means you have to gesture faster and you can end up overthrowing (or "underthrowing" by not getting full effectiveness) and that 80 rated fastball pitch is coming in there as a 60 rated fastball (80 x 75%).

This part of the game works so well it is killing me that I have to wait for them to patch fatigue. I'm looking forward to entering games with a battered bullpen.

I had the same problem last year. In MLB 2k10 I was playing last night I was down 4-5 and allowed 11 runs in the 6th inning. Final score 5-17 and my Tigers fell to 31-34 on the season.
