First page of my slider thread:
- First of all, I usually take until strike 1. If you look at a lot of the high on base percentage MLBers, they do this too. I did it when I played baseball. I do it when I play baseball video games.
- 0-0 and 1-0 counts I pre-load a power swing but will only swing if batters eye lights up and shows it to be a pitch down the middle. This is to jump on those pitchers who groove a first pitch fastball to get an early strike one. Other than that, I'm taking.
- On 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 counts I power swing freely, as in, if the pitch looks good I will power swing to crush it. No left stick influence. As a real batter does, I'm looking for a good pitch here, probably let something on the corners go by. May also let those big 12-6 curve balls go by because they are a pain to time and usually lead to pop ups.
- On 0-2 and 1-2 counts I'm swinging defensively. Anything close I foul off trying to work the count to more of a hitters count to get a better pitch to hit. Need a good eye here to let the balls go by. I do end up taking some called third strikes here and there.
- On "regular" or "even" counts I contact swing. This includes 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2. Of course on the 2 strike counts I swing at anything that looks to be a strike. On a 1 strike count I'm a little more selective and might let a strike on the outside corner at the knees go by to wait on a better pitch to hit.
