I struggle with stealing bases, even last year too. The cpu always gets me haha

"...you have to hold back sometimes and not exploit the comp or else it becomes lame."

Yeh, I didn't even really mean to send Bourn from 2nd to home on an infield grounder, no one in their right mind would do that. But that sad part is that he still ended up scoring pretty easily. And that's with base running sliders that don't even allow for infield hits.

I'm having a much better time hitting by dropping the AI pitch speed to 50. I'm not sure how massive an impact that has on the quality or variety of hits, but I'm getting great results.

I had originally dropped the user pitch speed to 50 as well, but the AI seemed to be teeing off (maybe this contributed to the comeback AI I was seeing), so I put it back at 75 and the cpu isn't so ridiculous. Just to check -- the "user" pitch speed affects the speed of the pitches the AI sees, correct?

I also put user baserunning to 55, and I'm getting infield hits and close steals. Guys with 95+ speed aren't guaranteed to steal the base, but at least it feels much more realistic when they do get thrown out (usually by inches and not feet). Even with the user speed up, the only triples I get are when the AI dives for a ball it shouldn't be diving for and lets it roll to the wall.

Just picked up the game and plugged these in, along with your rosters.

My question has to do with camera angles and picking up pitch breaks. As I recall from last year, pitches didn't really look all that different coming down the pike, so it was lots of guesswork. Is there an angle that will let you see the break on a bender or even detect the trajectory of a fastball off the plate better? I don't want to be taking balls just because I'm guessing they'll throw one in a give count--I want to see it coming and decide to lay off, if you know what I mean.

That is what I use and can easily tell what type of pitch I'm going to get, I can locate where it's going too. Hopefully others can find it as good as I do.

Great stuff, Canes, and thanks for the review! I'll check those out tomorrow. I was messing around with pitch zoom tonight and found to my surprise that it's a pretty interesting take on locking you into the pitch. You can read it better during that zoom moment and determine pitch and location than when you have that option turned off.

To the sliders, I played two games and lost them both. One was 1-0 and the other was 9-5. Both very fun. The first game I used Classic Hitting and the second I used Total Control. I actually liked the latter better; I felt like I hit with more power that way and got some great foul ball animations.

Do you think these sliders would work long term for Total Control batting?

Last year I used TC hitting with his sliders and they played out fairly well. Though once I went classic, I never have gone back. I found myself power swinging more than I should have been which was leading to my offense playing out unrealistically. That's a major reason I went classic and stuck with it.

Lowered both cpu and user Infield Throw Speed down to 35 (from 40).

I tried it at 30, but it was AWFUL...

I've been simming pitching and just hitting working on my plate discipline lately so I had only experienced the user side of baserunning I forgot to mention. With the seperate base runner speeds I have my IF throw speeds seperated too. I was finding it was too easy to get doubled up and never saw a fast runner beat out a grounder deep to the IF. With CPU throw speed 25 I feel it plays a lot better, I even saw a case one time where the CPU threw to 2nd base for the final out of the inning instead of first as it was a fast runner and would have been closer, it only happened once and thought it was neat.

I havn't been pitching much so not sure what a good human value would be but will go with 35

can i ask why this large of a difference between user batting contact & power and cpu one,
is it based on user expertise & level of play and can i increase / decrease it accordingly..

i was playing with beetlebum sliders and beating almost anyone, but with these sliders cpu kicks my butt
nut sure is it a good thing. only two games played so far,
                      also,

in those b-bum sliders i noticed a fair amount of cpu stupidity, like my player was runing to score and cpu outfielder just stands there, not even attempting to throw the ball to catcher, dont know is it because of sliders or stupid ai in general

Well, common sense would say to pick sliders somewhere in the middle, right?

I mean, you're winning every game with the other sliders = too easy. You're losing nearly every game with mine = too easy. So, something in the middle...

                          thank you for reply mk

this game sparked my interest in baseball (im practicaly devouring wikipedia for meaning of terms) and your sliders are being more then helpful. im from bosnia where i may be the only one interested in this game, lol.

one more question if its not the problem.

which slider pulls some other slider with them.

i mean, if i change pitching speed do i need to change something else to compensate ?
ok, two questions, i hope youre not finding it bothersome, but, why two different ratings for my base running speed and cpu one. i use ai controlled fielding and base running, so i dont know which one the game takes into account.

                          tnx again.

I noticed that your sliders were updated with quicker outfielders and outfield throwing speeds. Maybe I'm just not getting any great contact, but without those changes I was already last place in extra base hits through 14 games.

I know your sliders are a base set and we're supposed to tweak to our skills from there, but am I just the weird player who unlike everyone else, is actually hardly seeing anything but singles and HR's?

Not knocking on your sliders mk, I know most people were seeing to many XBH, but I was just curious if I was the only one who wasn't seeing many at all even before the recent updates to throw speed and fielder run speeds.

EDIT: Played two games, ended up with a couple of triples, some doubles, and even an inside the park HR with Bourn. The extra base hits were there, but not too much. Strange, but I'll take it.

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

ellsbury02... I'm also finding user hitting to be a bit too easy. I don't want to lower batting contact as suddenly hitting off foul balls to keep at bats alive (like in real baseball) becomes impossible. So try this: raise cpu AI pitch success to 80. If that's still too easy, go up to 85.

Funny you brought this up because that seemed to be my final issue with these sliders that I wasn't 100% comfortable with.

Last night I played a game: Rangers (me) at Rockies (cpu). I won 8-7 in 10 innings. Trailed 3-0 in the first inning. Took a 4-3 lead in the 4th on a 3-run HR and a solo HR back-to-back. They struck for 4 runs in the 6th to go up 7-4. I chipped away with a run in the 8th, and then 2 in the 9th to tie it, and an RBI single in the 10th to win it.

Feliz went 6 innings with mixed results. But my bullpen pitch 4 innings, giving up only 1 hit with 3 relievers. Nathan pitched a perfect 10th for the save. The only problem was I had 17 hits, so it's still tilted a bit too much for the offense. Try the above changes and see how it works! Thanks for your feedback...
