Using the new user batting combo of 25 contact / 60 power I played a FUN game. Won 2-1. McCutchen hit an RBI double off the right field wall to break a 1-1 tie. I scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th after trailing 1-0 most of the game. I had 8 hits...Philly had 7. They hit 2 triples (Victorino - 92 speed, Galvis - 83 speed - from my rosters). I hit 1 triple (Barmes - 72 speed - poorly played by the CF). I saw a ball drop in front of my LF and it was nice to see the ball sprayed. I struck out 7 times total and I struck them out 10 times (Hanrahan getting 2 for the save, after walking the 1st two batters).

For anyone fearful of a lack of contact by the user at 25, I had some great at-bats in which I fouled of a number of pitches.

I'm thinking this might be the way to go... Not perfect sliders, as I don't think we'll get them, unless they patch a couple things. But probably as solid as I'm gonna get.

One final thing I'm now kinda torn on: cpu Gather Error Frequency. Don't know if I should just leave this at the 50 center mark (as I lowered it to 45). Would appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks!
I lowered it to 45 as well, had one game where they had 4 errors in which a line drive was dropped, or even a routine pop fly. Its wierd how they run right at then like trip and drop it. 45 seemed good to me as they still had 1 error the next game.

Thanks!! I know you play this game a lot, and I value your feedback. I'm just gonna leave it at 45. Like you I've seen some head-scratchers by the CPU. I had a game yesterday where the ball was hit to 2B and he just stood there for a moment, and then finally just threw the ball to 1B. It was a rarity, but still shouldn't happen. After the game I wanted to check the fielder's ratings as I was concerned, but he had solid attributes, so it was just a game brain fart.

Page 1 - Post 1 updated... The only 2 changes made from previous update was 1) user batting contact lowered to 25 (from 30) and 2) user batting power raised to 60 (from 55).

I know I say this repeatedly, but I'm going to test the CPU with batting contact at 80. I may not end up there, but I want to see what they do. I don't want to lower the pitch movement as I believe it makes it more challenging, but I'm fearful that the cpu needs a small boost on offense. I think their power is perfect at 90.

So it might be a cpu contact 80 / cpu power 90 combination. Just in test mode - nothing definite.

Again, if you are happy where you are or are personally struggling in some area, make you adjustments accordingly. These are a base for you to 1) receive a fair challenge, and 2) to ENJOY!!! At the end of the day, it's just a video game...

I think you were right in saying you can't please everyone and might be doing more harm than good. I thought the sliders were perfect about 4 tweaks ago.

Well, not necessarily... There were no bloops, outfielders were too fast, and too many liners right to the infielders (which usually accounted for 3-5 outs per game). So maybe the stats were playing out right, but there were elements of the game that could improve. So the task is to find the right balance. Frustrating and time consuming...yes. But when you find the right combination, it's worth it.

I really like the 70 pitch speed. Just need to give potency to the CPU offense. I'm going to give the 80 contact / 90 power a look. Might be the sweet spot...who knows.

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Played two more games with 30/60 user batting, 75/90 cpu. 70 pitch speed.

                    Mets 4 runs, 12 hits, 10 singles, 1 double, 1 homerun, 0 walks, 4 KO, 1 error
                    Braves 5 runs, 7 hits, 4 singles, 1 double, 2 homerun, 4 walks, 7 KO, 1 error

This game went into extra innings and was won with a walk off solo HR by Brian McCann. Think Johnny Venters blew a 2 run lead in the 8th by giving up a 2 run shot to Duda.

                    Mets 1 run, 7 hits, 6 singles, 1 triple, 2 walks, 10 KO
                    Braves 4 runs, 12 hits, 8 singles, 2 doubles, 2 homeruns, 2 walks, 3 KO

I sat on RA Dickeys knuckleball all game and was able to get quite a few hits off of him but also stranded a ton of baserunners. Dan Uggla had a pair of solo HRs.

Between these two games with the Mets and the previous two with the Brewers (not counting the game I got blew out)

                    ME: 5.25 runs, 9.25 hits, 1 double, 0 triple, 1.75 HR, 2.25 BB, 4.25 KO, .5 E
                    CPU: 4.5 runs, 11.5 hits, 1.5 doubles, .75 triple, .5 HR, 1 BB, 5.5 KO, .75 E

Runs are just about right. User hits slightly low but walks slightly low, cpu hits even higher but walks even lower. Extra base hits are in a decent range considering it's only a 4 game sample size.

I think the CPU hits and lack of walks is me giving in too often. I think I'm pumping in too many fastballs for strikes and need to try to make them swing and miss some more. That should result in a few more strikeouts, couple less hits, few more walks. I don't think any adjustments to CPU batting are needed. 75/90 seems to work great.

I'm on the fence about lowering user contact to 25. The 9.25 hits a game is about right. HR's are a little high but doubles are also a little low so its about right for only a 4 game sample size. I think jumping on too many first pitch strikes might lead to a couple more hits and a few less walks as well as strikeouts. I think I basically need to work the count more. Maybe take until I get a strike. I might try doing that instead of lowering user contact for the time being.

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Latest updates in BOLD / RED on page 1 - post 1 (Monday, April 9th, 8:45 pm).

I've reached a point of frustration that I just need to stop and enjoy the game. Once again, I'm trying for those "perfect" sliders, and this game just will not allow it. I want a challenge, but I find myself frustrated as it either seems too easy or too hard...nothing in the middle. So I'm going to just go with this for awhile (ha!) and see what happens.

                        3 Changes of note:

                        - settled on user batting contact at 30. At 25, I just couldn't make good contact and felt I was swinging at pitches that got put into play which became weak grounders. I'd rather foul those pitches off, but instead they were in fair play, and I was getting a lot of weak outs that just wasn't fun.

                        - raised user throw accuracy to 10. At 5, it just wasn't much fun. I had a game today in which I threw 5 bad balls (for 7 total errors). It was one of those games that made you wanted to throw your controller through the TV.

                        - raised user infield throw speed to 45. I've already given the cpu the advantage in run speed on the bases, so this is a fair compensation. I had those uniform for both user and cpu, but I've some bad animations really slow down my ability to make good throws on plays I thought I should have had. I hope a patch will fix some of the crappy defensive AI we see, but I'm not hopeful. I'm also fearful of clowns who post at the official 2K forums wanting things fixed that really don't need touched, only because they probably have average playing skills.

You may have to concede fewer user strikeouts. You COULD raise the cpu AI pitch effectiveness up to 80, but when I did that before it wasn't any fun.

I truly love this game...but the HUGE drawback are these sliders that go in INCREMENTS OF FIVE. It's a negative... We need those extra variables, like 2K basketball has. Not a game killer, but it places limitations on solid sliders.

With Run speed at 40 don't you get a lot of double plays ? Do u have at least enough close plays with runner safe at first ? I completely agree that at 55 the chase for the first looks more real, but in game it seems a lot, sometimes you get easy triples... i think 45 a more fair speed.

Just got a quick game in with your latest set and got absolutely...destroyed. Porcello didn't last past the 2nd inning and every reliever I brought in got destroyed. Adding to those 16 runs was a grand slam by longoria in the 2nd to go up 7-1 (which is when I pulled porcello). I'm used to winning or playing close games...but to get destroyed like this was eye opening. The challenge is for sure there! Details below:

The more I play this game, the more I'm convinced that things are pre-determined. I've read other threads where it was believed that the game will basically determine the outcome... Sometimes no matter what you do you can't stop the CPU...and sometimes you can take a garbage player and succeed, even when you try to make mistakes. If so, it's very frustrating...

So, I decided to do 2 things:

                              - raise cpu AI pitch success to 80 (up from 75). I just played tonight's Royals (me) at Athletics (cpu). The cpu didn't strike me out once!!!! Was very frustrating. Lower the user hit contact back down to 25 and you'll get 4-5 (maybe 6) pitch at-bats because you can't make good enough contact to foul off pitches.

                              - lowered user infield throw speed back down to 40. At 45 it feels too arcadish... Not for me.

Guys, this is a good game, but it's not great. 2K once again has failed to provide simulation baseball. I'm not trying to be debbie downer, but with the lack of options to make more slider adjustments using more numerical values (the 0/5 only numbers) it's a game killer.

I don't want to put the cpu and user pitch speeds back up to 75 because most balls come off the bats like rockets. Again, it's a give and take... page 1 - post 1 updated with the 2 updates.

Yeah I am starting to believe similar things like predetermination. That's why sometimes you come in with a star pitcher and he gets bombed out of his socks after 2 innings allowing 3 HR and 6 runs and in the next game a mediocre pitcher comes in and pitches the best game of his life and shutting you down over 8 innings.
Or you bring in your elite reliever and completely everything wents wrong, he can't hit the strikezone or when he hits it it is automatically an extra base hit, while the other team's low rated reliever makes 3 strikeouts in a row.
BUT: In the long term things should play out.
That means you can have 1 or 2 games which go completely freaky in the one or the other direction, but when suming it up a bunch of games and taking the averages it should play out pretty well.
