Just a quick thought on your impression: If Ben Sheets only had 71 pitches in 7.2 IP, you need to lay off a lot more and work the count. Same goes with your pitching. You need to work the count more by throwing some more balls. Your pitch counts would have been OK if were a 2-3 hit per team game by the time both pitchers left.

Think of it like this. Sheets looks like he faced 30 batters. 71 / 30 = 2.36 pitchers per at bat. That is very low. Same with Schilling. 29 batters faced, 66 pitches, pitches per at bat: 2.28. Both numbers should be above 3.5 (Boston led the league last year with somewhere around 4.5 pitches seen per at bat).

Great post! That's very, VERY similar to how I determine my "patience rating," by the number of pitches seen per at bat!

No matter what sliders you use or game you play for that matter, if you're not playing "realistically" (not directing this at you, cam) then you can't really tell how effective the game/sliders is/are.

Poster, I hear ya! It's tough getting those pitch counts up without effectively making the CPU a standing buffon in the batter's box. But this is a lot more effective than the default, as the CPU will take pitches, sometimes even blatant strikes...

Try the settings just CPU vs. CPU, and you will see that the batters actually go into deep counts, something that rarely happens on default...

-The slow baserunners can no longer be thrown out on plays where the fielder dives, spins, adjusts his crotch, checks out the hot girl in the third row, and then throws to first. Ichiro/Pierre still blaze down the line, but not inbelievably so.

After spending the morning digging myself out of the driveway, sitting in traffic on the GWB, being an hour late for work, I nearly wet myself after reading that!

Good points Millenium and Pared. I think part of the issue was it was the first time I played without the strikezone. I was hitting my spots accurately, just leaving them out over the plate a little too much. Schilling didn't get his first strikeout until the 4th when I started getting the hang of it.

Hitting wise, I actually did better than I have been. I had been averaging 8+ K's a game but Sheets only had 5 K's. You're right though, I do have to work on my patience.

Pared, takes this like you would a grain of salt. I have not tried your sliders yet, but I have one question: It seems like everyone is having a hard time hitting the ball. Of course, they may be rushing the pitch count and swing at the 1st three pitches (Good morning, good afternoon, and good night! I hate that commentary...). I thought it may be more realistic to lower the CPU's contact and higher the human's contact...
