Re: Pared's MVP 2005 Gameplay Sliders

Hey pared I know you like to lower the throw accuracy so you get more off-line throws but have you tried turning off the throw meter instead. I use the player ratings to get most of my sliders but it's kind of difficult to do this with mvp because I can't sort the ratings from highest to lowest like in madden .

So instead I went to create a player and was able to get the average of almost all the player ratings. right now I have throw accucacy at +8(58%). so I do see some of line throws but if you turn the throw meter off you will see a whole lot more because now you have to judge a lot better.

Also I like the foul ball idea I have contact at 0(50%) so I put my foul ball slider at -25(25%) but I think I will try your setting of +50 or maybe even +25(75%)

Also would a higher pitcher ball rate make the cpu pitcher work the count more. I have my pitcher fatigue at 0 and thought I should raise it but really I swing at everything but if you increase foul balls, I would think rasing the cpu ball rate would help with the pitcher fatigue as well.

I may try putting up to +25 which would be half of what the control is.

Last thing Pared or anyone what is pitcher Mg difficulty does this have anything to do with managing the bullpen, I'm lost here.

I do agree with you bro the game does play great out the box and I don't think anyone will be complaining about lefty homeruns, cpu steals, or righty 999ft homerun blasts.

It should be real interesting to see how many walks I get with these sliders, on default all-star, I was averaging about 2-5 walks a game, but of course only 1-2 for me

Do you think you will be making a slider set for Pro Level...or do you find it just to easy on Pro?

Just an idea to add for User Pitching (not slider related):

If you are still having issues not walking guys, turn the pitch cursor off, and vibration off. Once you get the feel for the game, it really steps up the challenge and fun of trying to nibble at corners.

                          Boston (me) vs Milwaukee (cpu)

                          Schilling: 7 IP 7H 2R 1BB 5K 1 HR
                          Timlin: 2 IP 2H 2R 0BB 2K 1 HR

                          Sheets: 7.2 IP 6H 3R 1BB 5K 1 HR
                          Bennett 1.1 IP 0H 0R 0BB 0K

-Schilling left with 66 pitches. Timlin had another 30 or so pitches in his 2 innings of work. Sheets left with 71 pitches.

-Still didn't seem like enough pitches but it's only 1 game and it was 2 aces so that probably had some effect as well.

-Milwaukee won the game with a 2 run HR off the foul pole in the top of the 9th. You could hear the clang and the announcers acknowledged that it hit the pole.
Just a quick thought on your impression: If Ben Sheets only had 71 pitches in 7.2 IP, you need to lay off a lot more and work the count. Same goes with your pitching. You need to work the count more by throwing some more balls. Your pitch counts would have been OK if were a 2-3 hit per team game by the time both pitchers left.

Think of it like this. Sheets looks like he faced 30 batters. 71 / 30 = 2.36 pitchers per at bat. That is very low. Same with Schilling. 29 batters faced, 66 pitches, pitches per at bat: 2.28. Both numbers should be above 3.5 (Boston led the league last year with somewhere around 4.5 pitches seen per at bat).

Thanks Pared, I will try these tonight. I have had pitcher fatigue at around -10 to -15 and just last night I had Kerry Wood throw 95 pitches in 8 innings in a loss. He also was still around the 40 % level. That being said I can see where the CPU might leave a guy in too long too if you give them more fatigue. I guess I want pitch counts over 100
