    Giambi coming back around....

"I've been really excited about what he's been doing for about a month or so now," said hitting coach Don Mattingly. "He's been swinging the bat OK, and the power is just starting to come now. We don't ever talk about hitting home runs, we talk about good swings and getting good pitches to hit."

Giambi has eight hits in his past 19 at-bats (.421) and 15 in his past 41 (.366), raising his average to .268 in the process. He has also been hitting the ball with authority, belting three homers in his last two games, adding a pair of doubles on Tuesday.

"I think he's starting to have fun again," Torre said. "It has to be very satisfying for him, because he's been working. Donnie's been working with him on a regular basis, and it's certainly paying off now."

He went 2-3 today with a dinger, so that's 4 homers in 3 days. Certainly picked up his avg from.190 a month or so ago.

    OBP SLG OPS
    .423 .452 .875

He's even doing good against lefties, and at YS he's fire.

I'm happy for him. He may be a cheater, but he never seamed like a prick or an arrogant jerk.

Talk about a slump-buster. He's been on absolute fire the last couple days.

I really liked him when he was in Oakland...

Even though he tore up the M's.

I'm very happy for the guy, he's been a huge boost for the team.

Up until recently, when he'd come to the plate...he was a sure strikeout, flyout or ground into a double play. He wasn't doing a damn thing, and I had all but given up hope on him. Even his fielding was subpar.

Now, he's had 4 homers and 2 doubles in the last 3 games and he's actually done fairly well in the field. It was great to see him with a huge grin on his face after Torre pulled him late in the game on Tuesday vs the O's.

Hopefully he can carry this into the second half of the season. The real test will be when he goes on the road to Boston right after the break, and see how he handles the boo's and chants.

It's amazing how forgiving the public is.

"He seems like a nice guy, therefore I want him to succeed."

**** him. He cheated. It doesn't matter that he's a nice guy or not.
Hopefully his career continues to shrivel up as much as his testicles probably have. I don't care if Mahatma Ghandi or Mother Teresa cheated, they still did it.

I definitely think the American public is obsessed with creating heroes to put on pedestals and conversely, villains to kick down. I personally don't care about the character of any players, all I care about is what they produce on the field (especially for the team I have a cheering interest in). They can be a racist piece of ****, a wife beater, I don't care. I'm not looking to idolize or worship anybody, I'm just looking to watch these amazing athletes play the game of baseball at the highest possible level. No more, no less.

As long as they produce, are team players, and contribute to the general underlying goals of the ballclub, I really couldn't care less.

That all said, I just picked up Giambi for my fantasy team as a short term 1B solution.

I think fans are more symapthetic to Giambi because he at least admitted he was wrong. He didn't plead the fifth like McGwire, or hide from the media like Bonds.

                    He apologized, but for what?

If people are quick to forgive Giambi, then they should be quick to forgive McGwire or Bonds. They'll react differently. They should all be lumped in together in this. They're bonded for years because of the steroid accusations.

I'll be cheering for Bonds now to break 755 when he returns as long as folks are quick to forgive Giambi.

Giambi's recent offensive production has got to be the feel-good story of the moment.

Wow! DCE - are you feeling okay? I never thought I'd see the day where you complimented a Yankee, let alone Giambi. Maybe world peace is possible after all????
