    Official Trade Deadline Thread

Well, we are only 2 weeks away from the trade deadline (July 31st) so I thought I'd make a thread posting trade rumors, team needs, and executed trades.

Obviously, the Yankees need relief pitching badly, and it wouldn't kill to even get a starter.

    Other Rumors: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/mlb/mlbrumors.html
Chicago Sun-Times: "According to a source, reliever Shingo Takatsu could be traded to a West Coast team as early as today, with the Sox getting a high-level prospect in return. Most of the previous rumors surrounding the Sox had to do with them acquiring a starter such as the San Francisco Giants' Jason Schmidt or the Florida Marlins' A.J. Burnett."

Denver Post: "Less than 24 hours after making two trades, the Rockies moved closer Thursday to dealing Chacon to the Yankees. While the Texas Rangers and longshot San Diego Padres have shown interest, no one is pursuing Chacon as aggressively as the Yankees."

Miami Herald (registration required): "Discussions between the Marlins and Orioles are intensifying over a proposed trade that could send pitcher A.J. Burnett and, perhaps, third baseman Mike Lowell to Baltimore. But the Marlins are continuing to talk to more than six teams about Burnett, who is being eyed strongly by the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox."

Pirates, of course, will be sellers again at the deadline.

    Matt Lawton RF
    Kip Wells SP
    Jose Mesa RP
    Mark Redman SP

All of them are up to be traded.

Austin Kearns or Adam Dunn, most likely Kearns will be dealt at the deadline for the Reds. Griffey and Pena are most likely staying around, I don't forsee them going anywhere. Also, Joe Randa has a 100% chance of being dealt. Sean Casey is also an outside possibility so that Dunn can be moved to first.

I think Atlanta will be buyers. Probably for some bullpen help. We essentially are making three big trades in the next couple of days as we get back two 20 game winners and a former NL MVP.

The question is... if the Yankees got him... would they use him as a starter or in the bullpen?

I have to wonder if the Mets would be able to move Piazza to the AL, with him being a free agent at the end of the season. Someone in the AL would benefit greatly I think with him as a DH for a playoff run.

I don't see the Mets being buyers unless they can get into a good position before the deadline. If they can, they need offense bad.

This is purely speculation on my part, with no factual basis, but given their current starting pitching situation, you'd have to think they'd use him as a starter. He'd likely be an upgrade over the Redding/May flotsam until the injured pitchers return.

He'll probably spot start until some of their other starters are healthy.

Here's to hoping the O's are indeed buyers and get the frontline pitcher they need !

but the Palm Beach Post reported that the Marlins might be willing to deal A.J. Burnett and Juan Encarnacion for Sheffield.
                          Still no-go.

If that happened, AJ would be on the DL before September, book it.

Sounds like the Phils are after Kip Well of the Pirates and are willing to give up Ryan Howard in return, but they want one of the Pirates catching prospects along with Wells.

I swear to beans, if the Phillies do a trade like that, I will officially denounce the Phillies as my team and become a free agent.
