    Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread

Since I'm not an Insider... I can't read the whole articles...but why does the rumor central have a thing about Bernie possibly leaving and Damon becoming a Yankee? Besides the fact that the Sox would never trade with the Yankees... I don't want to see Bernie leave... but I doubt it'd happen anyways.

I suggest everyone checks out the chat with Jayson Stark happening at 1 PM Eastern time.

Damon will be a free agent after this season, right? That's probably how he would become a Yankee.

No.. Yankees were under possible trade destinations for him before the deadline.

right, because the Red Sox would trade a star player to their bitter rival.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Orioles will include P Jorge Julio in a deal for Burnett and the Orioles would agree to take struggling Marlins 3B Mike Lowell.

              The trade breaks down as:

              Orioles get:
              P A.J. Burnett
              3B Mike Lowell
              OF Eric Reed

              Marlins get:
              OF Larry Bigbie
              P Jorge Julio
              P Hayden Penn

This could come down to a deadline day deal since the Marlins still have other offers to consider. The Red Sox have offered Bronson Arroyo and prospects for Burnett, but not Lowell. The Yankees are reportedly offering Carl Pavano, Felix Rodriguez and a considerable amount of cash (to pay for Pavano) and the White Sox, who will not trade P Damaso Marte for Burnett still think they could have a chance, possibly offering P Brandon McCarthy and OF Aaron Rowand.

No way would the Sox trade McCarthy and Rowand for Burnett. That deal would make ZERO sense for them.

Looks like the deal might be done very soon. Larry Bigbie is not in the lineup tonight, and there's a righty on the mound. Right now, it looks like the deal will be Larry Bigbie, Jorge Julio, and Hayden Penn for A.J. Burnett and Mike Lowell.

I would've rather seen the O's get Encarnacion, but I guess that was asking too much. Hopefully, Lowell snaps out of it and starts hitting again.

I can see the Orioles/Marlins trade, but the Sox giving up McCarthy AND Rowand? That will completely destroy the chemistry. It might be something like McCarthy, Everett and a prospect, but not Rowand.

Also to stay on topic..The Cubs just traded Dubois to Cleveland for Jody Gerut.

Funny thing is, how do the Cubs expect to train their prospects to become superstars, if they dont play them?

I think Dubois played a total of 20 games. And most of those games were scattered. Baker is an idiot of a coach, and doesnt know how to build up his rookies. Dubois has talent, I can see it in him. He doesnt play a great deal of defense, but Defense can be taught. Too bad Baker didnt know that..

i dont think this trade is as close as everyone says.lowell and julio both played tonight.i dont think their teams front office would risk injury which will prevent trade

                          Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread

It's looking like a three-way trade now, according to the Baltimore Sun:

Marlins get: Mark Redman, Hayden Penn, Jorge Julio
Orioles get: A.J. Burnett and Daryle Ward
Pirates get: Larry Bigbie and Mike Lowell (thank God the O's won't get stuck with him)

I like this trade better. Ward can play the OF, so Melvin Mora wouldn't be forced into LF, as was rumored with the Mike Lowell acquisition. Daryle Ward would probably play LF primarily against righties, and Eli Marrero & B.J. Surhoff would get quite a few starts against lefties.

                            From the Dallas Morning news.

According to the Toronto Sun, the Rangers have pushed the Blue Jays hard to trade center fielder Vernon Wells, an Arlington native. This was Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi's response: "We're not trading him." ...

                            From sportsillustrated

The Red Sox are actively seeking both a starter and a reliever. Miguel Batista of the Blue Jays is available, but Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi is believed to have asked for top prospect Hanley Ramirez in return
