In the future, however, this deal benefits the Sox and D-rays more because the d-rays get four great prospects and the sox get one of the largest contracts in baseball taken off their shoulders, plus two decent players. Huff has had some sucess in Fenway, so maybe he could break-out or something, I don't know. But the Mets are going to be the same exact team next year if this trade happens because they'll have no money to spend.

Yes I know, but I was just saying that last year we went through the same thing. Huff/Cameron are both better players than Cabrera was, so it's not like they are anemic on offense, like cabrera. And we still have the best all-around leadoff hitter, Ortiz, 'Tek and Renteria has shown he can get it done. I'd take Huff over Millar, too.

the mets already have a good pitching staff.. the problem for the mests is the hitting. and this helps big time. but dont forget that piazza will come off the payroll and thats big and the mets payroll will get bigger cuz they are starting their own tv channel like the yankees.. the mets and yanks in 2 years will have the biggest payrolls cuz of that.. they can afford it.

According to ESPN.com, the Red Sox, Mets and Devil Rays have decided on a soft deadline of noon Saturday to put the Manny Ramirez deal back together.

It's supposedly the Red Sox and Mets that need to work things out, as the Rays are happy with their haul (Lastings Milledge, Yusmeiro Petit, Anibal Sanchez and Kelly Shoppach). The Red Sox want more in return than Mike Cameron from the Mets and are still reportedly insisting that the Mets assume the entire $64 million Ramirez is owed. Jul. 29 - 11:29 pm et

If the Red Sox choose to, they will always have a bigger payroll than the Mets. Plus, I don't really care if everyone on my favorite team was payed a dollar and were considered scrubs, if they won I'd be happy. Money doesn't buy rings anymore.

Why wouldn't they have money to spend? They'd have one of the biggest pitching draws in all of baseball as well as one of the biggest hitting draws in all of baseball. I'm sure their season ticket sales as well as regular ticket sales will increase which will bring more revenue. Let's face it, they draw from the same population as the Yankees do. They'll also be losing Piazza's $16 million salary.

Actually, Stark wrote the column saying the deal was dead as well so you can't really use that argument.

It's no so much about what they're making from the fans, but having two of the biggest contracts in baseball in beltran/Manny, having Pedro's contract, and I'm sure guys like Reyes and Wright will be asking for new contracts soon, I don't see them making any huge improvements in FA this year. I'm sure someone will say they don't need any huge mprovements, and you're right they don't need to do anything drastic, but they do need help in their bullpen, and their rotation still needs work.

Basically I'm just saying I'd rather have that 67 million dollars to spend on F's over the next 2 or 3 years, than an unhappy manny. Plus, Huff's an upgrade over any 1B we have now.

they also said that the cubs want soriano.. and that patterson may be involved in that trade.. what you guys think of this one.

the manny trade has to be done by tomorrow so that tells me that the sox are putting their foot down on the mets...
