How long do steroid traces stay in your system? Could he have stopped a year ago, but they still show up on a test now?

I guess I'm a little late on this, but wow, I really didn't expect Raffy to have used steroids. This is some pretty shocking news. I'm very interested in finding out when the tests were conducted, because he would be a complete idiot to have taken them in the middle of steroid accusations. I used to really like Raffy and thought he was a sure fire HOF, but not anymore.

they don't stay in your body very long. Some are out of your body within a week, it all depends on what type it was. There are so many different types of steroids that it is insane. ....... If he tested positive he took something recently.

As far as lying to congress: He said has has not "knowingly" took any. Pretty much said that to cover his *** !

          My thing is this....

If there are so many different types of steroids out there, it IS possible to consume something without knowing it has steroids in it. What if he ate some sort of processed hormonal chicken or something? I mean, I'm still giving Raffy the benefit of a doubt, because he hasnt proven anything else to me otherwise.

He'd be stupid to do it during the accusations and all that, or in the midst of a Congressional hearing, or anything. I dont think he's that dumb. The possibility that it showed up from something else is very possible.

Re: Palmeiro tests positive for steroids

I, for one, am going to with hold judgement on this until all the facts are out. Everyone is so quick to crucify him when we don't even have the whole story.

            1. What type of steroid was it?

            2. When was his urinalysis?

            3. Could an OTC supplement contain that banned substance?

Way too much seems a bit fishy in this whole thing. Palmeiro doesn't seem like he is so stupid that he would already be under the microscope and then take a chance at being caught using performance enhancers. Also, why did MLB take so long to come out with this news? I understand that they didn't want to upstage the HOF ceremony, but this could make them look pretty bad if we find out they knew 2 weeks ago or even before Palmeiro was approaching 3,000 hits.

It should be pretty interesting to see how much more there is to this story.

Funny how Canseco said in his book he shot up Palmeiro. And then you look at his HR numbers and how they just coincidently increased when he started playing with Canseco.

As far as I am conerned, J. Giambi is the only player with a set of balls to admit to it. The rest of these guys are loosers in my book.

Uh, Giambi didn't admit to anything. Sure, he "admitted" he did something, but he has never once stood in front of a group of reporters and said, "I took performance-enhancing steroids."

Re: Palmeiro tests positive for steroids

In my heart of hearts, I want to believe that Raffy did not know that what he took contained a banned substance. But having re-read his conference call statement, I'm having a hard time believing anything anymore.

He said that " I am sure you will ask how I tested positive for a banned substance. As I look back, I don't have a specific answer to give. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to explain to the arbitrator how the banned substance entered my body."

In his very next sentence, he states "The arbitrator did not find that I used a banned substance intentionally - in fact, he said he found my testimony to be compelling."

So he basically cannot explain how the banned substance entered his body, yet the arbitrator found his testimony compelling enough to determine that he did not take it intentionally.

So what's going on? Is he not telling us everything, or was the arbitration process such a farce that Raffy got a [semi]-favorable ruling because he is a big name?

Ok, so, if the abritrator believed that Raffy didn't take the substances "intentionally" then why was the entire suspension upheld?

He's just blowing smoke up all our asses.

I agree here. If a player tests positive for steroids, what more proof do we need?

Step 1) Deny accusations of steroids at all costs
Step 2) Test positive for steroids
Step 3) Convince the public that you didn't take them knowingly

I'm sick of this game of, "I didn't take it knowingly." After everything has caved in on their story, they want us to forever question whether they intentionally cheated, just by uttering that simple line. It's like the final back up plan for the players. It's getting old.

He never admitted it publicly. He just said sorry but didnt actually admit that it was for using steroids...you could assume that but you could also assume he was apologizing for all the bad press. If youre talking about admitting it to the grand jury, thats not exactly having balls...if you only admit it if/when you could go to prison, how is that having ball$?

Yep. I love how people actually change their perceptions based on whether the man feels sorry or not in what was, to put it kindly, a PR stunt. Whether he feels sorry or not is irrelevant in my book. This country LOVES to put those who forgive on a pedestal, especially when contrasted with those who don't for the same acts.

                            Actions speak louder than words.

As for Palmeiro, anybody who thinks he mistakenly disgested some steroids is really sticking their head in the sand. This may be one of the most hilarious excuses I've ever heard, only to be trumped by 'The dog at my homework last night'. It's just too convenient.

I have a simple solution to the unintentional problem. STOP TAKING 800 SUPPLEMENTS EVERY MORNING!!!

Gee....Babe Ruth had a supplement, Beer and a cigar......seemed to do him fine. Jesus....seems like EVERY athlete on the planet is like.....gotta get another .1 percent....I just gotta, GIMMIE SOME MORE PILLS.....They'll make me faster by a smidge won't they....yeha....GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE!!!

what about just eating right, exercise, and being generally healthy. Not packin away the cocktails of protein and 10 pounds of pills every morning....

Sad sad times we live in.
